William Henry “Bill” Horsley
1941-2008
MOREHEAD – William Henry “Bill” Horsley, 66, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center after an illness of several weeks.
He was born on November 27, 1941 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a son of the late Thomas Isaac Horsley and Rebecca Brown Horsley.
Mr. Horsley was a former employee of Homer Gregory Lumber Company having worked there for 35 years. He was a member of the Cathedral of Praise and enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Morton Horsley.
Survivors include his sister, Janie Trent of Morehead, his longtime companion, Beulah McGlothin of Morehead, niece, Willa Jane Bevins, nephew, Jamie Edward Trent and great-niece, Amelia Maynard-Trent.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Tipton officiating. Burial will follow in the New Alfrey Cemetery. Visitation is after 11:00 A.M. Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be employees of Homer Gregory Lumber Company.
Joyce Alene Salyers Adkins
1925-2008
MOREHEAD - Joyce Alene Salyers Adkins, age 82, of Halifax Drive, Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008, at her residence.
She was born March 16, 1925, in Carter County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Jane Mauk Salyers. She was also preceded in death by two half sisters, Shirley Price Fitch and Audrey Price, and two half brothers, Thestal Johnson and Othal Johnson.
Her husband, Donald William Adkins, passed away May 30, 1973.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Gary and Mary Sue Reynolds Adkins of Elliottville, Kentucky, and Donald William Jr. and Peggy Lynn Maschino Adkins of Lexington, Kentucky; two daughters, Shirley Ann Owens and Janis Kay Owens, both of Lexington, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Adkins was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services were conducted 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gayle Price officiating. Burial was in the Bradley Cemetery in Carter County, Kentucky.
Pallbearers were Roger C. Owens, Lloyd L. Owens, Kyle William Adkins, Donald William Adkins III, Brent Means, and Jerry Maschino.
Visitation was after 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Glennis Ray “Penny” Reynolds, Sr.
1943-2008
MOREHEAD - Glennis Ray “Penny” Reynolds, Sr., age 64, of Christy Creek, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008, of an apparent heart attack.
He was born September 5, 1943, in Carter County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Davis and Lennie Trent Reynolds. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Bertha F. Purnell, and two grandchildren, Sheena Renee Reynolds and Glennis Reynolds, III.
Penny is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Thomas Reynolds; three sons, Glennis R. Reynolds, Jr. and wife Jenny of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, Bryan Paul Reynolds of Morehead, Kentucky, and John Wright and wife Tara of Ashland, Kentucky; two daughters, Stephani R. Cox and husband Randy of Clearfield, Kentucky, and Penni M. Baldridge and husband Jason of Clearfield, Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Richard Brian Mabry, Krystal Dawn Reynolds, Tasha Denise Mabry, Jarrad Thomas Wages, Wes Cox, Courtney Cox, Holli Reynolds, Garland Jayce Reynolds, and Braden Baldridge.
Other survivors include three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy Davis and Debbie Kay Reynolds of Rush, Kentucky, Tommy Jay and Donna Reynolds of Lawton, Kentucky, Bobby Joe and Della Reynolds of Morehead, Kentucky; and six sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce L. and Floyd Conn of Morehead, Kentucky, Linda M. and Curtis Conn of Morehead, Kentucky, Gracie E. and Thomas DeHart of Morehead, Kentucky, Glenna K. Butler of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Patty E. and Lawrence Mabry of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Pammy L. and Ronnie Kissinger of Morehead, Kentucky.
He was the owner and operator of G & R Trucking. He enjoyed working on machinery but most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren. Penny was a member of the Porter Creek Church of God.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Vaughn Thornsberry and Pastor Johnny Austin Carter officiating. Burial was in the Reynolds Cemetery in Carter County, Kentucky
Pallbearers were nephews Jeff Butler, Bryan Butler, Daniel Butler, Frankie Butler, Allen Butler, David Conn, T. J. Reynolds, Randy Holbrook, Ronnie (Sonny) Kissinger, John Conn, James Conn, Herman Conn, and Tim Thornsberry.
Visitation was Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Charles Robert Tackett Sr.
1921-2008
MOREHEAD - Charles Robert Tackett, Sr., age 86, of Pleasant Valley, Morehead, Kentucky, husband of the late Geneva Wright Tackett, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at his residence.
He was born August 4, 1921, at Wrigley in Morgan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Charles H. and Lula Littleton Tackett. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harvey Tackett, and three sisters, Flora Cooper, Alice Brown, and Edna Hiles.
Bob is survived by two sons, Charles Robert “Bobby” Tackett and wife Joyce of Waterwood, Texas, and Jeff May of Morehead, Kentucky; two daughters, Marilyn Kidd and husband Billy of Morehead, Kentucky, and Kylynn Porter and husband Jim of Morehead, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Stephanie Ruth, Michelle Emrick, and Levi May; and two great-grandchildren, Cole Ruth and Rachal Emrick.
Mr. Tackett was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Italy and Africa. He was a 40- year ordained minister with the Church of God International. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing.
A private family service will be held with entombment in Forest Lawn Mausoleum.
Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Sue Day Theising
1917-2008
MOREHEAD - Sue Day Theising, age 90, of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Morehead, passed away Monday morning, March 3, 2008, at the Fleming County Hospital in Flemingsburg, Kentucky.
Born June 12, 1917, at Zilpo in Bath County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Bernard (Bun) and Bessie Jones Day. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Day, and a sister, Dorothy Day Moore. Her husband, George Theising, passed away in 1998.
She is survived by one brother, Clyde Day of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, and two nieces, Betty Roberts of Morehead, Kentucky, and Marilynn Wick of Dayton, Ohio.
Visitation for Mrs. Theising was from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Interment will be at Mansion Memorial Park in Ellenton, Florida.
Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Josephine Stewart “Jo” Adkins
1935-2007
MOREHEAD - Josephine Stewart “Jo” Adkins, age 72, of Pleasant Valley, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, December 31, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
She was born November 2, 1935, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late William and Pearl Sloan Stewart.
Jo is survived by her husband of 54 years, Paul Adkins, whom she wed June 27, 1953, and her daughter, Samantha Gottler and husband Dean of Lexington, Kentucky. Her son, Winford Paul Adkins, Jr., preceded her in death on June 7, 1980.
Jo was an employee of Jerry’s Restaurant for over 40 years and enjoyed reading and watching U.K. basketball games. She was a member of the First Church of God.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Allan Hutchinson and Pastor Matthew Richardson officiating. Burial followed in Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dean Gottler, Matthew Richardson, Teddy Wright, Bob Wright, Johnny Thompson, and Tony DeHart.
Hazel Marie Trent Brown
1933-2007
MOREHEAD - Hazel Marie Trent Brown, age 74, of Trent Ridge, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at her residence.
She was born October 29, 1933, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Jason and Susan Edith Matthews Trent. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Virgil Darrell Hall; one grandson, Chad David Brown; three sisters, Clona Mikelson, Reba Jones, and Nellie Dehart; and one brother, Earnest Trent.
She is survived by her husband, Jasper Brown, Jr.; three sons, David Randall (Randy) Brown of Owingsville, Kentucky, Talmadge Junior (Timmy) Brown and Roger Dale Brown of Morehead, Kentucky; four daughters, Marita Justine Adkins of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Judy Kay Crum of Salt Lick, Kentucky, Michella Renae Mabry of Morehead, Kentucky, and Shawna Marie Goldie of Owingsville, Kentucky.
Also surviving are four brothers, Vernon, Versel, Verda and Ivan Trent, all of Morehead, Kentucky; three sisters, Arizona Black and Christine Parson of Morehead, Kentucky, and Jewell Jarrells of Danville, Kentucky; 13 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and member of the First Church of God.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial was in the Jason Trent Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ray Dehart, Dean Goldie, Scott Mabry, Jason Brown, Bobby Ray Howard, and Virgil Black.
Visitation was Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
