Fred Burgess Scarberry, 84, of Portsmouth, Ohio, formerly of Turkey Creek, KY, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 21, 1922, at Goody, KY, the son of the late Wade and Elsie Scarberry.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one son, Donald Young Scarberry, whom passed away serving his country in the Vietnam War in 1969; one sister, June Scarberry; one brother, R.C. Scarberry.
Mr. Scarberry served his country aboard the USS West Virginia in the US Navy and was in the battle of Pearl Harbor. He was a Mason. He enjoyed gardening but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was a devoted Christian and was a proud member of the 7th Street Christian Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Scarberry.
Fred is loving honored by his children, Sue, Chris, Gail, June, Fred Paul, Tina, Carl, Fred Donald and Kenny; three brothers, Ed Scarberry of Florida, R.T. (Patsy) Scarberry of Turkey Creek, KY, and Frank Scarberry of Columbus, Ohio.
Other survivors include 18 grandchildren and a host of of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, KY, with Lisa Crawford and Pastor Rodney Kencaid officiating.
Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at the funearl home.
Clifford “Peach” Scott, 77, of Hardy, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2006 in Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.
Born May 29, 1929, he was the son of the late Chester and Fannie Hatfield Scott. He was retried from Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan and founder of Jason’s Tack Shop in Hardy. Scott was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Army.
Surviving him are his wife Mary Pinion Scott, Hardy; sons: Clifford D. (Rhonda) Scott of Midland, Michigan, David B. Scott of Romulus, Michigan, and Fred Charles of Belleville, Michigan; daughters: Shiela J. (Steve) Sexton of Belleville, Diana (Doug) Tabour of Henderson, Kentucky, and Tonya (Jason)
Fields of Hardy; brother Walter (Ann) Hatfield of Antioch, Tennessee, sister Gladys (Gene) Brown of Franklin, Indiana; 16 grandchildren which include a special grandson Brian Fields; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death other than his parents was one sister Grace.
Visitation will be after 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2006 at Rogers Funeral Home with special singing service and Raymond Stanley at 7:00.
Funeral service will be Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Rogers Funeral Home with Buddy Kendrick, Gerria Reynolds, and Deacon Walter Hatfield officiating.
Burial will follow in Julius Scott Cemetery, Hardy, Kentucky, with Military graveside rites performed by the Belfry D.A.V. Chapter # 141.
Friends will serve as pallbearers.
Della R. Coleman Scott, 83, of Williamson, West Virginia, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2006, in Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, West Virginia.
Born October 22, 1922 to the late Peter and Mary (Griffey) Coleman, Della was a homemaker, member of the First United Methodist Church of Williamson, the Elizabeth Chapter #37 O. E. S., the Women of the Moose, the Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Democratic Women’s Club, the Rebekah Lodge #67, the Belfry Area Homemakers Club and awarded a Kentucky Colonel in 1989.
Surviving Della are: one son, Danny T. Scott of Forest Hills, Kentucky; three daughters: Brenda (Sherman) Young of Williamson, West Virginia, Marilyn (Shelly) Hensley of Belfry, Kentucky, and Frances Scott of Kodak, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren: Jody, Dana, Tommy, Bobby, and Bridget Scott, Kermit, David, and Chris Ratliff, Patty (Richard) Foster, Sharman (Brad) Smith and Bart Shane (Hayley) Scott; fifteen great grandchildren: Nick and NaKisah Salmons, Kersten Scott, Magaly and Mya Smith, Brandon and Kaylee Ratliff, Mark and Amanda Ratliff, Jordan and Jon Foster, Tyler and Nathan Ratliff and Shane and Brady Scott.
Preceding Della in death were a sister, Thelma Chafin and five brothers: Curtis, John, and Eli Coleman, Jack Justice, and Roy Farley.
Funeral services for Della are 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky with Greg Blair officiating. Burial will follow in the Hankins Cemetery in Hardy, Kentucky.
Pallbearers are her grandsons along with Brad Smith and Larry Ratliff. Honorary pallbearers include Ronald Akers, Rod Smith, Truman Chafin, and Tyrone Chafin.
Monvil Ray Sheppard, 47, of Laurel Creek in Lenore, West Virginia passed away at the residence of his cousin Larry Hall.
Born March 3, 1959 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Lace Marcum and Olle Sheppard Marcum, he was at self-employed painter.
Other than his parents preceding him in death are one sister Sherry Preece, and the grandparents who raised him Mary and Wallace Sheppard.
Surviving him are one brother, Bruce Marcum, one sister Sue Marcum, and a host of family and friends.
Visitation is after 6:00 pm Friday, October 27, 2006 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m Saturday, October 28, 2006 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
Interment is at Newsome Cemetery in Big Branch, West Virginia.
Lois Smith, 75, of McAndrews, Kentucky was carried by angels to Heaven on Tuesday, August 22, 2006.
Lois was born in Huddy, Kentucky October 25, 1930 to the late Claude and Gladys Varney Bostic.
She married
James York Smith Sr. on January 2, 1947. They were married
38 years when he died on April 29, 1985. She was also preceded in death by a son, Darrell R. Smith on September 20, 1985.
Lois was a member of the Pinsonfork Church of God and a former employee of Food City and Pizza Hut.
Surviving her are one son, James York Smith Jr. and his wife Pat of Meta, Kentucky; four daughters: Claudette Ball her husband Tom of Belfry, Kentucky, Carol Hackney and her husband Jack also of Belfry, Cindy (David Cisco) Smith of McAndrews, Kentucky, and Libby Booth her husband Brian of Hardy, Kentucky; one sister, Ella Maynard of Kokomo, Indiana; 12 grandchildren: James David Smith, Danita Pauley, Jarred Smith, Alisa Thompson, Tomi Ball, Jacqueline Kennedy, Angela Scalf, Joey Hackney, Amie Samuels, Jamee Smith, Jonna Hatfield, and Mackenize Booth; five great grandchildren: Kenneth Chapman, Ethan Thompson, Jalyn Hackney, Cameron Scalf, and Daelyn Pauley; six step grandchildren, and a host of family, friends, and her Church Family.

Reaford Smith, 69, of McAndrews, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky.
Born July 26, 1936, he was the son of the late Kellis Smith and the late Ethel McCoy May.
Smith was a retired mine foreman from Piston Coal Corporation and a member of the Octavia Freewill Baptist Church, Pinsonfork, Kentucky.
Surviving him are his wife, Linda Smith; sons, Reaford “Chester” Smith of Troy, Ohio, Timmie Dean Smith of Russia, Ohio, and Corey Smith of McAndrews; daughters, Lisha Karen Lammers of Midland, Maryland, Kathy Darlene Walters of New Carlisle, Ohio, Misty Thacker of Louisville,
Kentucky, and Vicki Scott of McAndrews; brothers, Joe Scott, and Terry Paul May both of McAndrews, Blaine May, Frankie May, and Ralph May all of Canada, Kentucky; sisters, Kathlene Balckburn of McAndrews, Carolyn Coleman and Edith Young both of Canada; 12 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death other than his parents were two sons, Paul “Lester” Smith and Gregory Eugene Smith; stepfather, Blake May; brother, Jessie Lee Varney, and grandson Gregory Eugene Smith.
Visitation will be after 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 19, 2006 and Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at the Octavia Freewill Baptist Church, Pinsonfork with special services both nights at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at the Octavia Freewill Baptist Church with Gerria Reynolds officiating.
Robert Smith, 60, of Sidney, Kentucky passed away Thursday, August 31, 2006, at his residence.
Born December 2, 1945, in Red Jacket, West Virginia, to the late John Butler and Fonnie Scott Smith, Robert is survived his wife Melda Scott, two sons: Robert Smith Jr. and his wife Kelly of Ransom, Kentucky, and Anthony Brett Smith and his wife Bethany of Sidney, Kentucky; two daughters: Robin Denise Hatfield and her husband Scott of Sidney, and Shelly King and her husband Mark of Harrogate, Tennessee; three sisters: Blanche Coleman of Ransom, Ann Lou Coleman of Ransom, and Katty Williamson and her husband Woody of Sidney. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Joshua and Hayley Smith of Ransom, Brandon, Lakyn, and Isaac King of Harrogate, and Lexie and Andrew Hatfield of Sidney.
Preceding him in death is one sister, Alberta Williamson.
Smith was a former coal miner, coal operator, and retired state mine inspector for Kentucky Department of Mines and Minerals. He was a member of the Stone Lodge # 890 F&M and a member of the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church in Ransom.
Visitation is after 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2006, at Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky, and Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Rogers Funeral Home. There will be special services both nights at 7:00 p.m. Also the body will be at the church Sunday, September 3, 2006 at the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m.
Funeral services are noon, Sunday, September 3, 2006, at the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church in Ransom with Rev. Emery Varney officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sandra Kay Smith, 58, of Canada, Kentucky passed away Thursday, December 21, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
Sandra was born September 8, 1948 to the late Ralph Thomas and Gladys Virginia Bowens Williams. She is also preceded in death by one son, Roy Thomas Smith.
Sandra worked at Kids-n-Company Day Care in Williamson, West Virginia and was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Pikeville, Kentucky.
Surviving her are her husband Larry Thiel Smith; one son, Larry Michael Smith of China Grove, North Carolina; two daughters: Sonya Renee Beard of Delbarton, West Virginia and Kimberly Nicole Boger of Canada, Kentucky; one sister, Sue Ann Saldona of Lafayette, Georgia;and three grandchildren: Austing Ryan Dixon of Red Jacket, West Virginia, Ednen Reese Beard and Lilly Cameron Beard both of Delbarton.
