William Thomas ‘‘Tarzan’’ Smith, 59, of Canada, Kentucky passed away Sunday, April 10, 2006, in Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky.
William was born June 6, 1946, in Pike County, Kentucky to Elzie and the late Verlin Smith. He was of Freewill Baptist faith.
Surviving him other than his mother are his wife, Teresa Smith of Canada, Kentucky; sons: Joseph Verlin Smith, Michael Dean Smith and Darrin Thomas Smith all of Stone, Kentucky; daughters: Debra Smith of Canada, Kentucky and Suzanne (Ricky) Burton of McCarr, Kentucky; brothers: Gary (Nancy) Smith of Paris, Tennessee, Henry (Bobbie) Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee, Ervin (Sue) Smith of Sidney, Kentucky, and James Darrell Smith of Ashland, Kentucky; sister: Naomi (Ballard) Blackburn of Canada, Kentucky; eight grandchildren and a host of nieces an nephews.
Preceding him in death other than his father is one brother, David ‘‘Little Britches’’ Smith.
Funeral Service for William is 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2006, at the home of Elzie Smith with William ‘‘Greasy’’ Smith, Donnie Williamson, and Roger Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery, Canada, Kentucky.
Pallbearers include Doug Robinson, Thomas Reed, Tony Reed, Tracy Schwerin, Joseph Smith, and John Elkins with honorary pallbearers Ballard Blackburn and Donnie Pinson.
Ann “Annie” Gentile Stanley, 81, of Williamson, West Virginia and Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Mingo Manor Nursing Home in Williamson, West Virginia.
Born December 28, 1924 in Williamson, West Virginia to Italian immigrants, Ann was the twelfth child of Mingo Bottling Founder the late Dominic Gentile and his wife the late Anna Quattrocchi Gentile.
Annie attended Williamson High School where she was a cheerleader and a member of the 1942 graduating class. Upon completion of her high school education, Annie attended West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia for two years. She then opted to enter the field of beauty attending beauty school in Huntington, West Virginia. After completion of beauty school, Annie move back to Williamson and open Ann’s Beauty Shop located in the Taylor-Poole Building.
Annie met and married, the now deceased, Dr. Richard Stanley in Tampa, Florida. The pair shared many years pursuing their passion for traveling, venturing all over the world. The couple had one daughter, Helen Ann Stanley, co-owner of Mingo Bottling Company of Williamson, West Virginia and goddaughter Sharon Kolba of Fort Worth, Texas.
A devout Catholic, Ann was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Williamson and St. Rose Catholic Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Annie was instrumental in organizing the first spaghetti dinner for St. Rose using the Gentile family recipe for sauce and meatballs. It was a huge success.
Annie was a trendsetter and a homemaker. Her passions were arts and crafts, sewing, dancing, and shaing her talents with others. She enjoyed playing bridge and at one time played tournament bridge. Annie also taught beginners the art of playing bridge.
Surviving Annie are her sister Lorrayne Gentile Sherman of Charleston, West Virginia and Sam Gentile of Melbourne, Florida, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to count.
Annie was preceded in death by four sisters: Mary, Helen, Youla, and Nellie; six brothers: Tony, Albert, Jerry, Joe, Bill, and Dom; a niece Mary Jane and a nephew Ronnie.
Visitation will be Friday, June 2, 2006, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky with Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Williamson, West Virginia with Fr. Harry Dunn officiating.
Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Williamson.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to Sacred Heart School in Williamson, West Virginia.
Lois Pecco Stratton, Clearwater, FL., formerly of Belfry, KY., went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, September 23rd under the loving care of Hospice House, Pinellas Park, FL.. She was the daughter of the late Mariah Trout Pecco and Tom Pecco Sr. who founded Pecco's Meat Market in Williamson, WV.
After relocating from the Belfry area, Ms. Stratton became a prominent business woman in Florida as owner a Post Office Outlet, Little Dallas Beauty Salon, several hotel/motels and the Stratton Apartments. She was a licensed cosmetologist and a previous model. She was a volunteer at the Marine Science Center in Clearwater.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dwight Stratton; her son, Harold Dwight Stratton II; parents, Tom & Mariah Pecco; brother, William Sam Pecco;and sister, Sarah Ann Pecco.
Survivors include 5 sisters, Marie Ball and Pauline Hackney, Belfry, Ann DiBuono, Virginia Beach, VA., Irene "Kitty" Salyers, Hampton, VA; Jennie Nelson, Abingdon, VA.; 2 brothers, Tom Pecco Jr., Belfry and Buster Pecco, Morehead; 2 grandchildren, Nicolas Dwight Stratton and Kristel Noelle Stratton; daughter-in-law, Debbie Ritchie; companion and beloved friend, Ralph Gerkin and a host of family and friends who loved her.
Visitation will be at the Sharondale Church of Christ, Belfry, KY., Wednesday, September 27th, 6PM. Funeral Service will be conducted by Pastor Bob Werntz at the Sharondale Church of Christ at 1 PM Thursday, September 28, 2006. R.E. Rogers Funeral Home is in charge.
Her nephiews Jerry Hackney, John Ball Jr., George Nelson, Tom Pecco, Joe Salyers & Danny Salyers will serve as palllbearers.
Florence Swafford, 59, of Hurricane Branch of Turkey Creek, Kentucky passed away at her residence Wednesday, October 25, 2006.
Florence was born July 3, 1947 in Goodman, West Virginia to the late James and Margie Stapleton Pennington. She was a home maker and a faithful, devoted, and active member of the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving Florence her husband of 40 years Danny Lee Swafford; five sons: Timothy (Joy) Swafford of Hurricane Branch, Kentucky, Jason (Tress) Swafford of Stone Kentucky, Danna (Shannon) Swafoord of 292 Turkey Creek, Bobby Swafford, and Tony Swafford both of Hurricane Branch; one daughter: Danielle Swafford of Pikeville, Kentucky; three brothers: Bobby (Dolly) Pennington and Junior (Kathy) Pennington all of Goodman, and Paul Pennington of Mississippi; two sisters: Ruby "Joann" Tarney of Detroit, Michigan and Margaret Pennington of Goodman; and six grandchildren: Jamie, Barbara, Aaron, Ryan, Celine, and Kasandra.
Visitation is after 6:00 pm Thursday, October 26, 2006 and Friday, October 27, 2006 at the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church with special services at 7:00 pm both evenings.
Funeral services are 1:00 pm Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Jimmy Stanley officiating. Her sons will serve as pallbearers.
Interment is at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, West Virginia.
Linda Sue Thacker, 50, of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away Monday, November at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, Kentucky.
Linda was born December 15, 1955 to Siller Thacker of Pikeville and the late Millard Thacker. She is also preceded in death by on brother, Joel Millard Thacker.
Surviving her other than her mother are three brothers: Angland Thacker, Greenie Thacker, and Roger Lee Thacker all of Pikeville; and two sisters: Brenda Thacker of Rogersville, Tennessee and Elena Blackburn of McAndrews, Kentucky.
Visitation is after 6:00 pm, Tuesday, November 21, 2006, and Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky.

Edna M. Truskowski, 77, of Hardy, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 1, 2006 at Appalachian Regional Healthcare in South Williamson, Kentucky.
Born July 27, 1929 in Pike County, Kentucky to the late Elder Dave and Delcie Adkins Williams, Edna was a member of the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary. She served 29 years in the American Legion Post 60 Ladies Auxiliary of Norfolk, Virginia, where she served as president for four terms and second district president for two terms.
Surviving Edna are six children: Ricky (Pam) Williams of Gordon, Georgia, Debbie Spencer (Reb) Bean of Bryans Road, Maryland, Christine Spencer VanNostrand of Burlington, North Carolina, Melvin (Terry) Spence of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, Joseph Truskowski of Burlington, and Therasa (Daniel) Grant also of Burlington.
Also surviving her are: two brothers, Don (Connie) Williams of Irington, Georgia, and Gordan (Judy) Wallace of Goody, Kentucky; three sisters, Minnie (Ivan) Goins of Aflex, Kentucky, Janet (T.J.) Trout of Hardy, Kentucky with whom Edna resided, and Sue (Frank) Williams also of Aflex; 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and ex-husband Larry Spencer of Aflex.
Other than her parents, preceding her in death are her husband Joseph S. Truskowski, one son Larry Marvin (Marty) Spence, and two sisters Kay Bevins and Juanita Matney.

Laura Virginia Runyon Tufts, 43, of Lexington, Kentucky formerly of Pinsonfork, Kentucky passed away at her home.
Laura was born August 10, 1963 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky to the late Robert Lee and Virginia Lee Greer Runyon. She was a homemaker and a member of the Canada Freewill Baptist Church.
Laura is survived by her husband James Cary Tufts, two daughters: Amanda Virginia (David) Lawson of Lexington and Wendy Marie Tufts also of Lexington; and three grandchildren: Brandson, Tyler, and Joshua Lawson. She is also survived by two brothers: James H. (Patsy) Runyon of Belfry, Kentucky and T.I. (Tina)Runyon of Stone, Kentucky; four sisters: Mary (Joe) Smith of Pinsonfork, Pearl (Rex) Salmons of Pinsonfork, Bessie Hunt (Joe) Tackett of Belfry, and Dr. Marjorie (Steve) Jenkins of Amarillo, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Other than her parents, preceding Laura in death one brother, Robert L. Runyon, Jr.; maternal grandparents Oscar H. and Pearl (Compton) Greer; paternal grandparents T. I. and Bessie (Goodman) Runyon; and one nephew, Steven Lewis Runyon.

Paul Bennett "Benny" Tackett, 71, of Canada, KY, passed away Monday, January 2, 2012 in the Emergency Room of the Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Benny was born February 11, 1940 at Hardy, Ky. the son of the late Nelse and Alva Broadhead Tackett. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Donald, Woodrow, Cleo and Ronnie Tackett and one sister, Mavis Tackett.
Benny was a longtime Educator with the Pike County Board of Education as a teacher and a principal for 35 years and a member of the Hardy United Methodist Church since 2004.
Survivors include his loving wife, Carol Sue Tackett of Canada; two sons, Geoff (Alice) Tackett and Anthony (Terri) Tackett all of Canada; one sister, Ruth Davidson of Jenkins, Ky.; five special grandchildren, Cory Tackett, Caleb Tackett, Bethany Tackett, Kacey Tackett and Kelli Tackett and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6, 2012 at 12 Noon in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Stanley officiating.

Francis M. Smith, 73, of Warren, Michigan died Monday, January 2, 2012 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Warren, Michigan.
He was born January 23, 1938 in Ransom, Ky. the son of the late Stewart and Edna Hatfield Smith.
He was the beloved husband of Christine Thompson Smith; loving father of Greg (Sheila) Smith and Kevin Smith. Dear brother of Bruce (Jeanne) Smith and Bunia Gaye Short.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 4 from 3 PM till 9 PM at the D. S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home in Warren, Michigan.
