Woodrow Moorer, 87 of Williamson, WV passed away Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center, Phelps, Ky.
He was born October 1, 1922 in Birmingham, Al. the son of the late Alde and Ida Moorer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Moorer, daughter, Daphne and three brothers.
He was a coal miner having been employed by Eastern Coal Corp., a member of the UMWA and a veteran of the US Army.
Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Southerns of El Paso, Texas and Yolando Singleton of Canton, Ohio; three sons, Donald Moorer and Barry Moorer both of Youngstown, Ohio and Bruce Moorer of Williamson, WV; two brothers, Broadie Moorer of Chicago, Il. and Eugene Moorer of Edgewater, Fl.; one sister, Lillian Morris of Youngstown, Ohio and seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, January 28, 2010 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Ky. with Thomas Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, WV. with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 10 AM till time of the Funeral on Thursday.
Donald L. Clevenger, 73 of Pikeville, Ky. formerly of Sidney, Ky. passed away Wednesday night, February 3, 2010 at his residence of a lingering illness.
He was born May 31, 1936 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Lenard and Elizabeth Gibson Clevenger. He was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Franklin Clevenger, four brothers, Henry, Andrew, Malcolm and Elster Clevenger, one sister, Allison Clevenger and a granddaughter, Kathy Lee Clevenger.
Donald was a retired coal miner from Mary Helen Coal Company and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Rose Clevenger; one son, Albon (Marcella) Clevenger of Kermit, WV; two daughters, Denita (Jack) Thacker of Sidney, Ky. and Jennifer G. Clevenger of Glasgow, Ky.; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Monday, February 8, 2010 at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Freewill Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Family Cemetery, Canada, Ky. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with special services at 7 PM. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
Willard Paul Young, 78 passed away at his home in Williamson on February 6, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Williamson on May 5, 1931 the son of Willard Landon and Mary Ann Scalf Young who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred Young and his Uncle, Ben Scalf who raised him after the death of his parents.
Paul was a veteran of the Korean War with the US Army. He was a talented musician who loved big band music. He played with several local bands and once had the plesure of jamming with the great Louis Armstrong. He also played with the military band while in the Army.
Paul is survived by his wife, Maxine Young; one daughter and four sons and their children; Melody Sue Young (Ronnie Donahue) and Jeff and Star; Ben (Martha) Young and Tim and Joe; Paul (Darlene) Young Jr. and Jason, Brittany and Chris; Jimmy (Tillie) Young and Matthew, Garnet and Ally and Barry Young. He is also survived by his brother James Douglas Young and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Rick Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with sons and grandsons serving as pallbearers. Belfry Chapter #141 DAV will have military graveside services. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Funeral Home. In lieu of Flowers, the family has requested that you please do something nice for a neighbor and tell them "This is for Paul."
Mary Elizabeth "Liz" McCoy Dillon went home to be with the Lord Monday morning, February 8, 2010 at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.
She was born November 26, 1934 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of the late Major and Ethel Thompson McCoy. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Anna McCoy, Polly Martin and Patsy Maynard. She was a homemaker and a member of the Gospel Revelation Tabernacle Church.
Survivors include her husband, Donald K. Dillon of Rawl, WV; one daughter, Ethel Grace (Roger) Russell of Rawl, WV; one son, Donald Dewayne (Sonya) Dillon of Rawl, WV; four sisters, Helen (Bill) Marcum of Aflex, Ky.; Thelma (Tom) McCoy and Joyce (James) Keene of Burnwell, Ky. and Virginia (J.P.) Roberts of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers, Ralph McCoy, John (Regina) McCoy, Delbert (Ruth) McCoy and Ronnie McCoy all of Burnwell, Ky.; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Russell of Rawl, WV; Melissa (Matt) Smith of Canada, Ky.; RaeAnna Dillon and Shae Dillon both of Rawl, WV. and a host of family and friends.

James Gregory "Jimmie" Scott, 50 of Hardy, Ky. passed away Monday, February 8, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, WV.
He was born on August 8, 1959 at Hopewell, Va. the son of Vivian C. Smith Scott of Matewan, WV and the late Charles E. Scott Sr. He was also preceded in death by one son, James Gregory Scott II, maternal grandparents, Willard and Blanche Smith and paternal grandparents, Elbert and Lydia Scott. He was a disabled coal miner and mechanic. He was of the Primitive Baptist Faith and a veteran of the US Army.
Besides his Mother, he is survived by his wife, Denise Hatfield Scott of Hardy; two daughters, Veronica (Kevin) Bryant of Hardy, Ky. and Natasha Scott of South Williamson, Ky.; three brothers, Charles E. Scott Jr. of Matewan, WV; Samuel Scott of Hardy, Ky. and John Scott; two sisters, Susan Heald of North Carolina and Mary Scott of California and four grandchildren, Nick and Leah Bryant and Allona and Daegan Scott and a host of family and friends.

Vicky Lynn Cozart Reed, 62, of Canada, KY, passed away Friday February 12, 2010 at her residence. She was born January 4, 1948 in Charles City, Iowa to the late Lester and Ella Cozart. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 35 years; Eddie Dean Reed, her father-in-law; Lafayette Reed and her mother-in-law; Kansas Reed. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by three sons; Tracy (Sheila) Schwerin of Chattaroy, W.V., Thomas (Julie) Reed of Kimper, KY, and Tony Reed of Canada, KY, two daughters; Theresa Smith of Meta, KY, and Tammy Reed of Canada, KY, one brother; Tom (Lorrie) Cozart of Readlyn, Iowa two sister-in-laws; Wanda (Mike) Wells of Kimper, KY, and Rita (Jake) Howell of Pikeville, KY, four brother-in-laws; Dewey Bruce (Debbie) Reed of Canada, KY, John Fitch (Jane) Reed of Pikeville, KY, Terry (Ilene) Reed of Allen, Ky. and Ricky Reed of Turkey Creek, KY, seven grandchildren; Debra Elkins, Stephanie Stanley, Amber Stanley, Madison Robinson, Cody Schwerin, Tyler Schwerin and Dalton Smith and a host of Family and Friends.

Lewis (Buddy) Pennington Jr., 67, of Williamson, West Virginia, died Saturday, February 13, 2010 in the Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born April 28, 1942 a Goodman, WV the son of the late Lewis E. Pennington Sr. and Elda Bowens Pennington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Stubbs, and Betty Jo Barker.
He was a self employed carpenter and of the Baptist Faith. Lewis is survived by two brothers, Wilburn Lee Pennington of Phoenix, Arizonia and Mickey E. Pennington of Ocala, Florida; three sisters, Opal Whitmer of New Straitsville, Ohio, Wanda (Floyd) West of Columbus, Ohio and Deborah (Mike) Burg of Whitehall, Ohio; Six nieces ; Eleven Nephews; Special Friend, Irene Estepp; Host of Friends at Goodman Manor; and a special thanks to his caregivers, Charlotte Gillman, Judy Hambrick, Juanita Barker and Skip Barker.

Orville Wilbur Bates, 39 of Williamson, WV passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 in Coral Springs, Fl.
He was born February 13, 1970 in Ocala, Fl. the son of Thomas Bates of Brandenton, Florida and the late Wilma Lee Meadows Bates.
He was a disabled carpenter.
Besides his Father, he is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Queen Bates of Williamson, WV; five daughters, Brittany Carlton, Whitney Whitley of Turkey Creek, Ky.; Holly Bates of WV; Autumn and Shannon Bates both of McAndrews, Ky.; one step daughter, Carla Ailiff of Williamson, WV; three step sons; Derrick Akers of Red Jacket, WV; Carl Akers of Mt. Sterling, Ky. and David Akers of Turkey Creek, Ky.; two sisters, Debbie Brown of Jacksonville, Tn. and Angel Stanley of Williamson, WV; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Homer Spears, 79 of 77 North Blackburn Bottom, Pikeville, Ky. died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.
He was born on December 8, 1930 at Drift, Ky. the son of the late Isaac amd Mary Ann Dutton Spears. He was also preceded in death by his first two wives, Alene Hall Spears and Margie Adkins Spears. one son, Chris Spears, several brothers and three grandchildren.
Homer was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include his wife, Glenna Jo Chapman Spears; four daughters, Euna Faye Adkins, Mary Ann Sesco and Anna Mae Sesco all of Sidney, Ky. and Nancy Elaine Browning of Flatwoods, Ky.; three sons, Thurman Ray Spears, Ralph Samuel Spears and Craig Stanley Spears all of Sidney, Ky.; one step-daughter, Kimberly Dawn Horner of Warfield, Ky.; two sisters, Irene Mosley and Georgene Mosley both of Fort Wayne, In.; daughter-in-law, Helena Spears of Hunter, Ky.; 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

William Henry Blankenship, 29 of Burnwell, Ky. passed away on February 12, 2010 in West Williamson, WV. Henry was born August 16, 1980 at South Williamson ARH, South Williamson, Ky. the son of Sandra Blankenship of Burnwell, Ky. and the late Willie Blankenship Jr. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Willie and Nebraska Blankenship, maternal grandparents, John and Zola Thompson and an aunt, Bernice Ogle.
He was a student at Southern West Virginia Community College and attended the Chattaroy Church of God at Chattaroy, WV.
Other survivors include his twin children, William Tyler and Taylor Deshae Blankenship of Georgetown, Ky.; sisters, Mary (Buckie Taylor) Smith of Burnwell, Ky. and April (Terry) Hall of Lenore, WV; nieces, Amber Blankenship and Timara Smith; nephew, Ryan Taylor; fiancee, Whitney Bostic of Canada, Ky. and a multitude of loving family and friends.

Vernon Edwards, 79 of Ragland, WV passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Ky.
He was born December 25, 1930 at Red Jacket, WV the son of the late Walter and Mary Clay Edwards. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers, Herbert, Walter Jr., Curtis, Charles, Rudolph, Howard, James and Lewis Edwards and six sisters, Myrtle Burke, Katherine Sykes, Emogene Hayton, Vernie Edwards, Beulah Mae Cantrell and Dimple Hartley.
Vernon was a retired coal miner from Island Creek Coal Co.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Ann Stacy Edwards; one son, Walter Grant (Rita) Edwards of Ragland, WV; four daughters, Patricia Ann (James) Runyon of Ragland, WV; Debbie (Reece) Moore of Ragland, WV; Darlene (David) Murphy of Beech Creek, WV and Lois Denise (Don) Taylor of Turkey Creek, Ky.; one brother, Richard Edwards of Apple Grove, WV; seven granddaughters, Chastity Spencer, Kellie Evans, Tonya (Moe) Lowe, Sabrina Hurley, Alisha Brewer, Jamie Peck and Ashley Williams and twelve great grandchildren and two on the way.

Douglas Fairbanks Blackburn, 81 of Canada, Ky. passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at his residence.
He was born December 13, 1928 at Canada, Ky. the son of the late T. Blackburn and Mary Murphy Blackburn.
Doug was retired from N. & W. Railroad, a member of Stone Masonic Lodge #890 F. & A.M. and a member of the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Ann Blackburn of Canada, Ky.;one daughter, Marsha Lynette Gregory of Canada, Ky.; one sister, Delorse May of Pikeville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Penny Renee Gregory and Paul Nicholas Gregory both of Canada, Ky. and Kevin Douglas Gregory of Parkersburg, WV and four niecs and nephews and a host of family and friends.

Billy Joe Wallace, 76 of Williamson, WV passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 8, 1933 in Shady Valley, Tn. the son of the late Hettie West and Roger West. He was also preceded in death by his loving daughter, Joi Aloise Parsley.
He was a retired Railroad engineer with over 39 years of service. He was a US Army Veteran and was a member of the East Williamson Baptist Church. He was the Secretary for the Brotherhood of Locomotive of Engineers.
Bill was a loving husband and dad and married
to his wife, Dolly Jean Skeens Wallace for almost 46 years.
Survivors including his immediate family members, are his loving wife, Dolly Jean Skeens Wallace; sons, Billy Joe Wallace Jr. of Haw River, NC, William Heath Wallace of Huntington, WV and Brian Keith Wallace and daughter-in-law, Adrienne Blackburn of Canada, Ky.; brothers and sisters, Walter West, Acie West, Evelyn Atwood and Lawrence West all of Beeson, WV., Mildred Milum and Irene Vaught of Princeton, WV., Christina Vaught of Charleston, WV and Linda Hensley of Smithland, Ky.; grandchildren, Jeremy Gage, Damon Keith and Zachary Kenneth Wallace, Billy Joe Wallace III, Amber Dale Wallace, Earsel Hensley Jr., Derrick Hensley and Jessie Parsley and 8 great grandchildren.
Other than his long years of work, he enjoyed taking his son's hunting and fishing and being in the outdoors. Other hobbies included woodworking, sewing, watching old westerns, reading, scrapbooking and telling stories about his life and the way it used to be. He will be greatly and sadley missed. We all love him very much. He helped raise two Boston Terriers; Bugedi and Undelay, who will miss seeing him also. Love you, Dad and for others; We'll miss you BJ.
