Lisa Gail Maynard Lockard, 34 of Sidney, Ky. passed away Sunday morning, July 18, 2010 at the residence of her Mother.
She was born September 3, 1975 at South Williamson, Ky. the daughter of Shelby Pinson Maynard of Sidney, Ky. and the late George Maynard. She was also preceded in death by a half brother, George David Maynard.
She was a former care giver and waitress and a 1993 graduate of Belfry High School.
Besides her Mother, she is survived by her son, Dustin Dakota Lockard of the home, two brothers, Darrell Maynard of Lexington, Ky. and Mike Maynard of Sidney, KY, four sisters, Pam Dillon of Nolan, WV, Sandra Armes of Sidney, KY, Denise Cochran of Pikeville, Ky. and Jenny Stanley of Belfry, Ky. and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church with William Akers officiating. Burial will follow in the Maynard Cemetery, Sidney, Ky. with her nephews, Randall Maynard, Brandon Dillon, Ricky Dillon, Ryan Mills, Anthony Mills, Bobby Preston and Nathaniel Preston serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Monday and Tuesday at the Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church with special services at 7 PM Tuesday.
Charles Cochran, 84 of Huddy, KY, passed away Sunday July 18, 2010 at the Pikeville Medical Center. He was born July 17, 1925 at Huddy, KY, the son of the late Hibbard and Dixie Justice Cochran. He is also preceded in death by two brothers; Clarence Cochran and Howard Cochran and three sisters, Eunice Miller, Bertha Staton and Gladys Branham.
He was retired from the Eastern Kentucky Consentrated Employement Program, was a member of the McAndrews Church of Christ for 59 years and was a veteran of the US Army having served in World War II in the 22nd Division.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Chapman Cochran of Huddy, KY, three daughters, Sandra Elaine (John) Combs of Lexington, KY, Brenda Carol (Ronnie) Ritz of Pikeville, Ky. and Jennifer Joann Cochran of Frankfort, Ky.; two sons, Charles Steven (Marian) Cochran of Huntington, WV and Christopher Brian Cochran of Stone, Ky.; two sisters, Reda Nowlin of Ohio and Dixie Brown of Morehead, Ky.; two brothers, Harold Cochran of Huddy, Ky. and Ralph Cochran of Michigan; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with David Parsley officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with his grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6 PM till 8 PM Tuesday night at the Funeral Home Chapel.
Willie Edward Smith Sr. 74, of McVeigh, KY, passed away Friday July 23, 2010 at the VA Hospital in Huntington, W.V. He was born March 25, 1936 in Pike County, Ky. to the late Ballard and Beulah Maynard Smith. He is also preceded in death by one sister; Betty Lou Guglechuck. He was a retired coal miner with Eastern Coal Company, a member of the U.M.W.A. and a veteran of the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife; Freida Mae Holt Smith, one daughter; Leigh Ann Cline of McVeigh, KY, one son; Willie Edward Smith Jr. of Fair Haven, Mi., three brothers; Albert Smith of Turkey Creek, KY, Dannie Lee Smith of Illinois and Ballard Smith Jr. of Florida and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 A.M. Sunday July 25, 2010 at Belfry Freewill Baptist Church with Buddy Kendrick officiating. R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky is in charge of arrangements. Gary David Varney 53, of Canada, KY, passed away Friday July 23, 2010 at his residence. He was born July 7, 1957 in Pike County, KY, to Bogar Varney of Grayson, KY, and the late Madelain Varney. He is also preceded in death by two brothers; Edgar and Danny Varney. He was a disabled coal miner and of the Baptist Faith.
Besides his Father he is survived by his wife; Donna King Varney, one son; Gary Bo Varney of Williamson, W.V., three daughters; Crystal Varney of the home, Brandie Baisden of Williamson, W.V., and Alicia Varney of Williamson, W. V., two brothers; Rick Varney of Pikeville, KY, and Ralph Varney of Somerset, KY, four sisters; Madonna Scaggs of Grayson, KY, Tina Varney of Grayson, KY, Lynette Varney of California and Carrie Murphy of Morehead, Ky. Five grandchildren; Hayley Milan, Kaydance Baisden, Dakotta Varney, Aleczander Clark, Louie Gauze and soon to be grandson; Gary Keith Patrick Baisden and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Monday July 26, 2010 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Emery Varney officiating. Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Sunday night at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with special services at 7 P.M.

Barry Allan Chafin, 21 of Meador, WV died Friday, July 23, 2010 at Red Jacket, WV.
He was born March 10, 1989 in Logan, WV the son of David and Sandra Ingersoll Chafin of Meador, WV.
He was a general laborer. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gracie Lynn Chafin, grandfather, Levi Ingersoll and Uncle, Andy Simon Chafin.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Rose Chafin of Meador, WV; daughter, Madison Chafin of the Home; brothers: David Chafin of Meador, WV and Joshua Osborne of Ohio; sister, Misty Chafin of Meador, WV; grandparents; Dorothy Chafin of Meador, WV, Clark Chafin of Toledo, Ohio and Evelyn Ingersoll of Red Jacket, WV; special Aunt: Cordella Hatfield; special Uncles and Aunts, Rodney (Misty) Justice and Teddy (Angie) Chafin; special cousin, Elaine Hatfield; 16 cousins and a host of other aunts, uncles, family and friends.

Gregory Smith, 36, of Chattaroy, WV, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010.
He was born August 23, 1973 at South Williamson, Ky. the son of Buddy and Ollie Mae Robertson Smith of Chattaroy, WV.
He was a disabled coal miner.
Besides his parents he is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Ball Smith of Chattaroy, WV; daughter, Amy Elizabeth Meddings of Logan, WV; son, Leonard Earl Ball of Chattaroy, WV; sister, Carla Gaye Smith McGraw of Teays Valley, WV; three grandchildren, Phillip Abram Sturgill, Jayhdyn Lydell Smith and Joseph Zane Meddings. He was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Joshua Scott Meddings, Funeral services will be held Friday night, July 30, 2010 at 7 PM at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Ky. with Harrison Baisden and Karen Maynard officiating. Visitation will be held Friday night from 6 till 8 PM at the Funeral Home.

Debra K. Varney, 55 of Canada, Ky. passed away Sunday morning, August 1, 2010 at her home.
She was born February 12, 1955 at Sidney, Ky. the daughter of the late Daniel and Barbara Ellen Thacker Stanley. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Lynn Stanley.
She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a member of the McVeigh United Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Julius Varney of Canada, Ky.; one son, Julius Wade Varney of Canada, Ky; three daughters, Ginger Annette Varney, Shaunna Marchell Varney and Savannah Brooke Varney all of Canada, Ky; one sister, Joetta Stanley of Cleveland, Ohio; five brothers, Teddy Stanley of Columbus, Ohio, Timmy Stanley of South Carolina, Danny Stanley and Ricky Stanley both of Cleveland, Ohio and Mikeal Stanley of Johnstown, Ohio; three grandchildren, Alexa Ra'Shay Varney, Summer Jade Varney and Gabriel Tuff Varney and a host of friends.

Tony Ray "Batman" McCoy, 60, of South Williamson, KY, passed away Tuesday August 3, 2010 at Pikeville Medical Center. He was born October 15, 1949 in Pike County, KY, to the late Ernest and Edna Faye Francis McCoy. He was a also preceded in death by two sisters, Jackie Lea McCoy and Virginia Vermillion and one brother, George Washington McCoy.
He was a former car repairman for TECO Body Shop and a member of the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church.

He was born July 14, 1943 at Dix Fork, KY, to the late James Williamson and Ocie Thornsbury Williamson Varney. He is also preceded in death by his step father; Vergess Doc Varney and son; Vergess Barry Dean Williamson. He was disabled, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife; Gloria (GloAnn) Williamson, one daughter; Danita S. Austin Cliff Runyon, 8, of Hardy, KY, passed away Friday August 13, 2010 at Logan W. Va.. He was born November 7, 2001 at South Williamson, Ky. to Barry Cliff Runyon of Turkey Creek, KY, and Cynthia Arlene Starr Fite of Hardy, Ky. He was a third grade student at Southside Grade School and loved monster trucks, baseball and the Boy Scouts.

John B. Ball, 81, of Pinsonfork, KY, passed away Sunday August 15, 2010 at his residence. He was born September 14, 1928 at Pinsonfork, KY, to the late George Robert and Luna Bell Stanley Ball. He is also preceded in death by his wife; Florence Ball, son; William Copley, sisters; Leola Ball, Bobby Jean Ratliff and Louella Smith. He was a retired coal miner at Eastern Coal Company, a member of the U.M.W.A. and a member of the Little Hope Primitive Baptist Church.

Gene Edward Pinson, 44, of Duncan, SC, formerly of Rockhouse Fork, Sidney, Ky. passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 in South Carolina.
He was born January 4, 1966 in Pike County, Ky. the son of Reta Ann Maynard Pinson of Sidney, Ky and the late Gene Pinson. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Danny Larry Pinson and James Micheal Pinson.
He was a carpenter.
Besides his Mother he is survived by daughters, Tiffany and Brittany Pinson of Russellville, In.; brother, Joe Pinson of Sidney, Ky.; sisters, Tammy Wallace of McAndrews, Ky. and Penny Spears of Wellford, SC; nieces, Amber Wallace and Katelynn Pinson; nephews, Dillon Spears and Jeremiah Wallace; great nephew; Davin Burton and his Fiancée, Robin Ritz.
