Mitchie Blackburn, 81 of Pinsonfork, Ky. passed away Wednesday,
February 26, 2014 at his home.
He was born August 14, 1932 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late
Grover and Ollie Hensley Blackburn. He was also preceded in death by his
first wife, Dorothy Blackburn; sisters, Mary Hensley and Esta Maynard and
brothers, Carl, Bobby, Everett, Ernest, Tom and Russell Blackburn.
Mitchie was a retired coal miner, member of the UMWA, a Deacon in the
Primitive Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Hurt Blackburn of Pinsonfork, KY;
daughter, Kathy (Greg) Cassady of Stone, KY; brother, Clifford Gene Blackburn of Lovely,
KY; grandchildren, Mikel Fraley of San Antonio, Texas and Brian Cassady of Twenty Nine
Palms, California; great grandchildren, Cherish, Jacob and Layla Fraley and Haylea Cassady
and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with the Elders Michael Elswick, Raymond Stanley, Shawn Dotson, Jeff Dotson
and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky.
with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Belfry Chapter #141 DAV will conduct Military
Graveside Services.
Visitation will be held Friday and Saturday from 6 - 9 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel with
special services both nights at 7 PM.
Powell Vincent "Vince" Sturgill, 59 of Burnwell, Ky. departed this
earth Thursday, February 27, 2014 to be with the Lord following a long
illness
He was born June 8, 1954 in Floyd County, Ky. the son of Hazel
Thornsbury Sturgill and the late William Sturgill. He was also preceded in
death by a brother, Jerry Sturgill and sister, Clara Arthur.
Vince lived life to its fullest. He worked hard, played hard and loved
hard. Vince lived unapologetically and without regret. Vince loved sports,
music, Harley's, drag racing and of course, his huge circle of family and
friends. He loved to tell stories and laugh. Vince wanted there to be a celebration in his death.
It's been said "everybody dies but not everybody lives"...well Vince lived. In honor of Vince,
Live ... Live each day to the fullest!
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Louise Baldwin Sturgill; two daughters, Kristy
(Mike) Baars and Tonya (David) Messer; two beautiful granddaughters, Carolyn and Micah;
mother, Hazel Sturgill; brothers, Bobby (Gwen) Thornsbury and Joseph (Brenda) Thornsbury;
sisters, Marianne (Robert) Goff, Loretta (Larry) Varney, Carletta (Woody) Robinette, Sharon
(Dennis) Lyons and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 2 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with Ronald Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the Baldwin Cemetery,
Canada, Ky. with Bobby Davis, David Messer, Mike Baars, Madison Thornsbury, Bobby Lee
Thornsbury Jr., Joseph Thornsbury and Ricky Thornsbury serving as pallbearers.

Katherine O'Brien, 92 of Williamson, WV formerly of Belfry, Ky. passed away Thursday,
February 27, 2014 in the Williamson Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
She was born November 26, 1921 the daughter of the late Bailey and Amanda Whilhite. She
was also preceded in death by her husband, Lucian O'Brien and two daughters, Brenda Fay
Thacker and Peggy Sue O'Brien. She was a loving wife and mother.
Survivors include two daughters, Beulah Jean O'Brien of Williamson, WV and Ruth Hensley
of Florida and her many friends at Trinity Healthcare.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with Buddy Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View
Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. Visitation will be held after 10 AM Tuesday morning at the
Funeral Home Chapel.
Harold Thomas "Hard Times" Farley, 74 of Forest Hills, KY., passed
away Tuesday March 4, 2014 at the South Williamson Appalachian
Regional Hospital. He was born July 16, 1939 at Hardy, KY, to the late
Lawrence and Nola Hunt Farley. He was also preceded in death by one
sister; Ebba Helen Farley, one brother; Darrell Farley and his mother and
father in law; John and Lillie Owens.
He was a retired engineer for Norfork and Southern Railroad and a
member of the First Baptist Church of Forest Hills.
He is survived by his wife; Mary Ruth Farley of Forest Hills, KY, one son; Brian Thomas
(Mary Ann) Farley of Warfield, KY, eight sisters; Ollie (John) Scott of Cincinnati, OH, Barb
(Roscoe) Williamson of Sidney, KY, Judy (Clayton) Stanley of Sidney, KY, Daisy (Vernon)
Sesco of Rockhouse, KY, Connie (Bill) Huddle of McCarr, KY, Patsy (Gary) Dotson of
Ransom, KY, Patty (Lewis) Luster of Sabina, OH, and Amanda Cleo Farley of Rockhouse, KY.
Four brothers; Charles (Marriane) Farley of Cincinnati, OH, James Farley of Cincinnati, Oh,
Jerry (Carol) Farley of Hardy, KY., and Donnie (Betty) Farley of Hardy, KY., one step

Cody Lee Epling, 64 of Pinsonfork, Ky. passed away Saturday
morning, March 8, 2014 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital
Emergency Room.
Cody loved the outdoors, loved sports and was an avid pool
player. He was born October 7, 1949 at Ballfork, Ky. the son of the
late Leo and Robena Ball Epling. He was also preceded in death by
his grandparents, Martin and Dicy Ball, Mack and Rhonda Epling
and one sister, Shirley Jean Shaw.
Survivors include two sisters, Brenda Faye (Fonso) McIntosh of
Ransom, Ky. and Teri Lynn Epling of Pinsonfork, KY; two brothers, Gary Edward Epling of
Pinsonfork, Ky. and Donald Ray (Lora) Epling of Louisa, KY; nieces and nephews, James and
Rod McIntosh, James Shaw, Michelle Martin, Gary Epling Jr., Cassandra Belcher, Timothy
Epling and Kimberly Tincher, special friend; Sheila Smith and a host of great nieces and
nephews.

Delmer Church Jr., 58 of Ransom, KY, passed away Wednesday March 12, 2014 at his
residence. He was born November 15, 1955 at Williamson, WV to the late Delmer and Maudie
Whitt Church. He was a retired coal miner.
He is survived by his fiancée Hazel Tilley of Ransom, KY, one son; Terry Church of
Ransom, KY, six brothers; Bennie Church of Ransom, KY, Mike Church of Ransom, KY,
James Church of Morehead, KY, Mickey Church of Belfry, KY, Donnie Church of Ransom,
KY, and Carl Church of Hardy, KY, four sisters; Arta Tilley of Hardy, KY, Sue Tilley of
Ransom, KY, Ruthie Sullivan of Ransom, KY, and Anita Norman of Ransom, KY, and a host
of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday March 15, 2014 at Samaria Primitive
Baptist Church with Shawn Dotson, Jeff Dotson and Others officiating. Burial will follow at
Whitt Cemetery, Ransom, KY, with Ronnie Sullivan, Hawk Tilley, Dean Norman, Avery Rife,
Tommy Tiller and Jamie Cotterman serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Thursday and Friday night at the church with special services
both nights at 7 P.M.
Zella Pigman, 77 of Rawl, WV, passed away March 12, 2014 at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born January 7, 1937 at Williamson, WV, the daughter of the late Oscar and Martha
Taylor Elkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband;
William O. (Bill) Pigman. Her sisters; Thelma Elkins, Edith Elkins and Marie Perkins.
Brothers; Carl (Inez) Elkins, Chester Elkins, Vernon Elkins and Clarence Elkins.
Zella worked at the Sundry Store, Caplan’s Furniture and the Mingo County Assessor’s
Office. She liked being around people and dealing with the public. She had a great sense of
humor, lived life to the fullest and loved her family and friends. Her great grandson Gage was
her greatest joy and the light of her life. She was a member of the East Williamson Baptist
Church.
Those left behind to honor her loving memory and mourn her passing include two loving
daughters; Beverly K. Ivins and Rita G. Elkins both of Rawl, WV, and her loving and devoted
son; Larry O. (Rebecca) Johnson of Rawl, WV. Her very special grandsons; Steven Andrew
Elkins of Rawl, WV, and Jeffery Garrett (Amanda) Johnson of Williamson, WV. Her great
grandson and light of her life; Gage Jeffrey Johnson of Williamson, WV. Zella is also survived
by two brothers; Hubert (Bonnie) Elkins of Morgantown, WV, and Franklin Dee (Gay) Elkins
of Orlando, FL, one sister; Pearl (Paul) Brown of Lick Creek, WV, and a host of nieces,
nephews and many friends.
