Virgil McCoy, 84 of Burnwell, Ky. passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the
University of Kentucky Medical Center.
He was born April 7, 1939 at Burnwell, Ky. the son of the late Reese and Bessie Bevins
McCoy. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hattie R. McCoy; sons, David Michael and
Robert McCoy; brothers, Edward and Douglas (Pug) McCoy and sisters, Ella Brook McCoy,
Flossy Blackburn and Viola Jude.
He was a retired truck driver for B. & B. Distributors.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Anne McCoy of Burnwell, Ky.; sons, Virgil Ray
McCoy of Burnwell, Ky. and Vernon Richard (Lydia) McCoy of Hardy, Ky.; sister, Delphia
Bragg of Burnwell, Ky.; brother, James Earl (Clarene) McCoy of Burnwell, Ky.; grandchildren,
Brian Keith (Ashley) McCoy and Darrin Michael McCoy; great grandchildren, Zack McCoy
and Caleb McCoy and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with Donnie Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the McCoy
Cemetery, Burnwell, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Friday and Saturday at the Funeral Home Chapel with
special services Saturday at 7 PM.
Lucille "Tinsie" Thompson Blackburn, beloved mother,
grandmother and great grandmother, passed away Friday January 18,
2013 at the Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born on November 29, 1929 at Aflex, Ky to the late
Everette and Pauline Aliff Thompson. She was 83 years old. She was
also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Harold
Blackburn, a daughter, Judith Gail Blackburn, two grandsons and a
sister; Helen Compton.
Lucille was a member of the Sharondale Church of Christ.
She is survived by six children: two sons: Thomas (Patsy)
Blackburn of Canada, Ky and Roy (Debbie) Blackburn of Glouster, Ohio, four daughters: Carol
(Bob) Davis of New Albany, Ohio, Patsy Wardle of Richmond, Ky. Jean (Dean) Branham of
Raccoon, Ky. and Robbie (Randy) Webb of Huddy, Ky. She is also survived by fourteen
grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She also leaves behind one brother, Everette
Lee Thompson of Aflex, Ky. and one sister, Bonnie Johnson of Mudlick, Ky. and a host of
loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday January 22, 2013 at R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home with Bob Werntz officiating. Burial will follow at Blackburn Cemetery, Huddy, Ky. with
her grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Sunday and Monday night at the funeral home with special
services at 7 PM Monday night.
Shirley Faye Dotson, 65 of Ransom, Ky. passed away
peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones, Sunday, January 20,
2013 after battling pancreatic cancer for several months.
She was born on July 30, 1947 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of the
late Ireland and Minnie West. In 1967 she married
the love of her life,
Raymond "Eugene" Dotson. He preceded her in death on August 3,
2012 after 45 years of marriage.
She was a retired/disabled employee of the Pike County Board
of Education, where she worked as an instructional assistant at
Blackberry Grade School during her years of employment. In addition
to raising her two kids and helping with her grandchildren, she was a
caretaker to many throughout her life and always eager to help someone in need. She was the
heart of her family. A wonderful wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister and friend to all.
She was a dedicated member of the Samaria Primitive Baptist Church. Her unwavering faith in
the Lord and strength was an inspiration to everyone around her. Shirley was well known for
entertaining guests with delightful conversation, coffee and snacks. She won the hearts of many
with her nurturing love and faith. Her gift of joy, compassion for others, constant smiling and
joking around will never be forgotten. It was very important to her that "everyone" knew she
loved them.
In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by brothers, Ralph
West and Ireland Vernon West; twin sister, Sharon Kaye West and nephews, James West and
Greg West.
Survivors include a daughter, Eugenia (Brian) Whitt of Ransom, Ky.; son, Chad (Jeannie)
Dotson of Ransom, Ky.; brother, Terry West of Aflex, Ky.; sisters, Helen (Rick) Becker of
Dublin, Ohio and Paula (Patrick) Olivia of Oviedo, FL; grandchildren, Briona Paige Whitt and
Chasity Dawn Whitt and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home
Chapel with Paul Varney, Jeff Dotson, Shawn Dotson and Raymond Stanley officiating. Burial
will follow in the Willie Jake Hager Cemetery, Ransom, Ky. with Brandon Scott, Charles
Patrick Reed, Cheyenne West, Dakota West, Andy Bowling, Danny Joe West, J. B. Dotson and
Dale Whitt serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Tuesday in the Funeral Home Chapel with a special
singing service at 7 PM.
Garland Yates, 79 of Williamson, WV passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 in the
Skilled Nursing Unit of the Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born January 7, 1934 in
Pike County, Ky, to the late Willie and Nola A. Centers Yates. He was also preceded in death
by a brother, Bill Yates Jr.
He was formerly employeed at Justice Drive Inn and a member of Fifth Avenue Church
of Christ, Williamson, WV.
He is survived by three brothers; Franklin Yates of Williamson, WV, Carl Yates of
Williamson, WV, and Joe Yates of Lexington, Ky, three sisters; Jenny Cooper of Paris, Ky,
Lorine Sesco of Pikeville, Ky, and Betty Sue Yates of Chicago, Il, and a host of family and
friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday January 24, 2013 at R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home with Ronnie Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory
Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with Dennis Paige, Jarred Belcher, Jerry Mounts, Max Mounts, Joey
Carey and Rebel Carey serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Wednesday night at the funeral home with special singing at
7 PM.
James Raymond "Tex" Childers, 70 of Williamson, WV passed
away Tuesday January 22, 2012 at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 25, 1942 at Williamson, WV the son of the late
Raymond and Lucille Ferguson Childers. He is also preceded in death
by one brother; David Childers and one sister, Dana Childers.
Tex was a graduate of Williamson High School and retired from
Persinger Supply Company. He was an active member of the East
Williamson Baptist Church. He was recently inducted into the
Williamson High School Athletic Hall of Fame which was one of his
most proudest moments. He served the Williamson Area as a youth football coach for fifteen
years, he was an avid hunter, a fisherman and he loved the outdoors. He was a loving husband,
dad and a friend to many.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen Lockard Childers of Williamson, WV;
sons, Mike (Janice) Childers of Greensboro, NC, Steve (Jan) Childers of Norton, VA and Joe
(Tawnya) Childers of Belfry, Ky.; sisters, Debbie Smith of Beckley, WV and Shera Childers of
Williamson, WV; grandchildren, Tyler Childers, Erin (Brad) Austin and Nick Childers and a
host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 1 PM in the East Williamson
Baptist Church with Brother Bob Norman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View
Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky.
Visitation will be held from 6 PM until 9 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home Chapel
and after 12 Noon Thursday at the Church.
Donald Howard, 69 of Adams, Ky. passed away Friday,
January 25, 2013 in Cabell Huntington Hospital.
He was born August 3, 1943 at Pilgrim, Ky. the son of the late
Preston and Dollie Tiller Howard. He was also preceded in death by a
brother, Larry Howard.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of the U.M.W.A. He
was also a member of Apperson Masonic Lodge #195 at Louisa, Ky., a
veteran of the United State Air Force and a member of the Enon United
Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Prue Mozingo Howard of
Adams, Ky.; son, Curtis (Theresa) Reed of Tomahawk, Ky.; daughters,
Christie Lynn Howard of Louisa, Ky. and Kimberly Dawn (Richard) Petticrew of Lavalette,
WV; brother, Bobby (Mary Lou) Howard of Chattaroy, WV; sister, Ruby (Donnie) Huff of
Chattaroy, WV; half brothers, Earl (Grace) Howard and Preston Howard Jr. all of Chattaroy,
WV; grandchildren, Curtis U. Reed, Steven Channing Reed, Corey Shane Cotterman, Abigail
Reed, Alexis Dawn Yurko, Derick Michael Cotterman, Kenadee Rayne Hatfield and Donovan
Trace Hatfield; special friends, Jim and Nellie DeHart of Danville, WV and a host of family and

Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry McCoy and Ivory Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in
the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, WV with Curtis Reed, Curtis U. Reed, Steven
Reed, Corey Cotterman, Derick Cotterman and Richard Petticrew serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be men of the Church.

with Masonic Services at 6:30 PM by Apperson Masonic Lodge and special services at 7 PM
