Earl "Red" McCowan, 90 of Chattaroy, WV went home to be
with the Lord July 3, 2012 at the Skilled Nursing Facility at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, KY.
He was born May 9, 1922, the son of the late Assie and Effie
Hall McCowan at Boldman, KY. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Marie McCowan; two
sons; Harry Truman and William McCowan; brothers August "Gus"
Pacific and Audrey Pacific; sister, Gladys White and stepfather August Pacific.
His survivors include his wife Eula Alley McCowan; children;
sons, Earl Jimmie (Barbara) McCowan and Robert McCowan; daughter, Annette (Mike) Marcum; stepdaughter, Barbara (Clifford) Fugitt. Grandchildren, Dawn (Morris) Mullins, Kristi
(John) Hyche, Todd (Marni) McCowan; step grandchildren; Gary (Jama) Marcum, Shawne
(Kelly) Wells, Terri (Michael) Polen and Jennifer (Tom) Kearse; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn
Mullins, Niki and Ali McCowan and Rebecca, Sarah, Anna, Stephen and Jonathan Hyche; step
great grandchildren; Kaylee and Mason Wells, Paiton and Landon Marcum, Tanner and Reese Polen.
Earl enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. on October 9, 1942, and was discharged
on November 16, 1945, with the rank of PFC. He served proudly in the Asia Pacific Area from
January 13, 1944 to October 31, 1945. He participated, in action against the enemy on Kwa
Jalein Atoll, from February 1 to February 14, 1944; Saipan from June 15, to July 9, 1944; Tinian from July 25 to August 1, 1944; and on Iwo Jima from February 19, to March 16, 1945.
He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action on Saipan on July 6, 1944. Earl
was also given the following awards: Presidential Unit Citation with ribbon bar and one bronze
star awarded Fourth Marine Division, Saipan and Tinian 1944 and Assault Troops V Amphibious Corps, Iwo Jima February 19, to 28 1945; American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific
Campaign medal with four bronze stars, Victory Medal, World War II, Rifle Marksman Badge
and Letter of Commendation from CG, 4th Marine Division for service on Iwo Jima on February 20, 1945.
Red enjoyed being a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 141 at Belfry,
KY, and served as Chaplain where he has been performing rites at military funerals since 1947.
Earl worked as a coal miner for most of his adult life. He worked at Eastern Coal Corporation,
Pond Creek, and in 1952, he went to Island Creek Mines #25 as a dispatcher and retired in 1991.
He had the honor of being named King Coal in 2004.
Red also served as a member on the Mingo County PSD for over twenty-five years and
was instrumental in obtaining many of the benefits that we now have.
Earl was a member of the Memorial Church of Christ at Dan's Branch, WV.
Red's great loves in his life was family, friends and the Marine Corp. He says that being a
Marine was the greatest honor he has ever received. He will be missed by his family, extended
family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Belfry, KY
Saturday July 7, 2012 at 1 PM with the Rev. Dwayne Smith officiating. The obituary will be
read by Rev. Lyle Marcum.
Visitation will be at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home on Friday July 6, 2012 form 6 to 9 PM.
Burial will follow in the Lenore Memorial Gardens at Lenore, WV. Military rites will be
performed at the graveside by the Belfry Chapter #141 Disabled American Veterans. Pallbearers will include Robert Adams, Robie Adams, William Ooten, Frank Smith, Charlie Whie, Garland Sheppard, Ronnie Ferrell and Bill Headen. Honorary pallbearers will include members of
the Disabled American Veterans and friends of the family.
Gracie Irene Ray Young, 70, of Varney, KY, passed away
Sunday morning, July 8, , at the home of her daughter Lela Maynard
of Pikeville, Kentucky.
She was born July 3, 1942 at Pikeville, Kentucky, a daughter
of the late Ben L. and Izola Young Ray. Besides her parents, she
was preceded her in death by two sisters, Lucy May Ray Kinney and
Nettie Ray and one brother, Lacy Sammie Ray.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith.
Gracie is survived by her husband, Harold Clifford Young of
Varney, KY; three daughters, Lela Carol Young Maynard of Pikeville, Ky., Elizabeth Jane Young of Varney, KY and Pamela Jean
Young Hamilton of Virgie, Ky.; one sister, Shelby Jean Ray Baker of Wheelersburg, Ohio; two
brothers, Lannie Ray and Mark Michael Ray of Varney, Ky.; grandchildren, Dustin Jeremiah
Huttenstine, Heather Rene Maynard, Benjamin Jordan Maynard and Christian Hamilton; and a
host of loving friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the R.E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with Gary Young and Richard Staton officiating. Burial will follow in the
Young/Ray Cemetery, Varney, Kentucky with Shawn Ray, Ben Maynard, DaKota Ray, Will
White, Dustin Huttenstine and Christian Hamilton serving at Pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 P.M. Monday evening at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of
Belfry, Kentucky.
Danny Lee Dotson, 57, of Stone, KY, passed away Saturday,
July 7, 2012 at his residence.
He was born May 21, 1955 in Ypsilanti, Michigan the son of
the late Clarence and Mary Sullivan Dotson. Also preceding him in
death was his wife Vicky Gail Wolford Dotson.
He was a disabled employee from Ford Motor Co. in Michigan.
Survivors include his daughter, Amy Leah (Kevin) Butler of
Ypsilanti, MI; sister, Connie Roberts of GA; brothers, Paul Edward
Dotson of Stone, KY and Billy Ray Dotson of GA; granddaughter,
Samantha Gayle Butler of Ypsilanti, MI and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be after 6:00 p.m. until time of the funeral service, Saturday, July 14,
2012, in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 2012, with Mike Smith officiating.
Keith Allen McIntosh Sr. was born to Halver and Kathie McIntosh
on July 15, 1975 in Hammond, IN. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Teri McIntosh; loving sons, Keith, Jr., John, Brian, Jason and
Kasper and loving daughter, Shiann; extended son, Xavian: loving sisters,
Lisa (Mario), Sabrina (Jason), Priscilla (Ray Ray); loving grandma, Eleanor Westinghouse; loving mother-in-law, Nancy Hakes, two brother-inlaws, Tom (Lynne) and Jay (Misty); eight nieces, seven nephews, one great
niece, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Chance McIntosh and uncle and best
friend, Billy Weatherford.
Leith was a pool installer for Great Escape for 15 years. He enjoyed his bowling league at
Plaza Lanes in Highland, IN. He was a Calumet High School Graduate of 1993 where he was
on the wrestling team. Keith will be deeply missed by his loving and dear friends. God grant his
eternal rest.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with Kenny Chapman and Frank Ball officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman-McIntosh Cemetery, Sidney, Ky. Visitation will be from 11 AM until time for the Funeral

Charlene Layne Hatfield, 86, of Belfry, KY, passed away Tuesday evening at her home after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Charlene was born March 5, 1926, in Pike County, KY, the
daughter of the late Feldon and Bessie Murphy Layne. She was also
preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred Hatfield and by a brother, Feldon Layne Jr.
Charlene and Fred owned and operated Fred's Grocery in Belfry
for many years. They did not have any children of their own but they
loved and generously helped to raise and feed many children in the Belfry area and a lot of children that attended Belfry High School. Charlene loved everybody and
everybody loved her. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include one brother, Rudolph (Pauline) Layne of Belfry, Ky.; sisters, Loraine
(Oscar) Skeens of Belfry, Ky. and Loretta Bevins of Belfry, Ky.; nieces and nephews, Patricia
(David) Vargo, Freddie Keith McCoy, Gary Bruce (Jeana) Layne, Belinda (Johnny) Williamson
and Jim Bevins and a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many loving friends.
Visitation will be held after 3 PM Thursday, July 12 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel.

Roy Lee Hilton Sr. 75 of McCarr, KY, passed away Tuesday night, July 10, 2012 at
Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center, Phelps, Ky.
He was born May 28, 1937 in Prestonsburg, Ky. the son of the late George Hilton and
Esta Poka Conn Hilton. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Sue Hilton and
one son, Roy Lee Hilton Jr.
He was a former coal miner and a member of the Faith Mission Church, McCarr, Ky.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Rose Hilton of McCarr, Ky.; son, Roy Lee Hilton III of
Charleston, WV; sister, Margie Marie Dillon of Buffalo, NY; three grandchildren, Nicholas
Edward Hilton, Adam Joseph Hilton and Abigail Varney and a host of family and friends.
There will not be any services on him just direct cremation.
Emogene Webb, 83, of Williamson, WV, passed away Thursday July 12, 2012 at the Skilled Nursing Facility, Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born January 9, 1929 in Williamson, W.V. to the late William and Sarah Slone Webb. She is also preceded in death by her husband;
John Pem Webb, one daughter; Rita Jean Webb, grandson; Larry Bryan
Webb; brothers; William Jr. Lowe, Arvil "Buster" Lowe and Jessie Lowe.
She was a member of the Williamson Church of Christ, a homemaker, a cook at Belfry Middle School and worked at R. H. Hobbs Department
Store.
She is survived by her children; Larry (Veronica) Webb of Turkey Creek, Ky., Barbara
(Clarence) Crigger of Williamson, W.V., Buddy Webb of Turkey Creek, Ky., and Gary (Roberta) Webb of Turkey Creek, Ky., sister; Josephine "Runyon" Sawyer of Chattanooga, Tn. sister-in-laws; Ellen Lowe of Turkey Creek, Ky., Janice (Ellis) Layne of Turkey Creek, Ky., Dora
(Fred) Muncy of Pikeville, Ky., and June Lowe of Turkey Creek, Ky., 13 grandchildren, 11
great grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon Monday July 16, 2012 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Ron Sanger officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Cemetery at Turkey Creek,
Ky., with John Webb, Gaige Johnson, Richard Nelson, Richard Chafin, Dusty Webb and Ed
Hardesty serving as pallbearers.

Roy David Leake, 56, of Williamson, WV, passed away, Saturday, July 14, 2012, at
Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born, January 25, 1956, at Princeton, WV, to Virginia Ruth Owsley Leake of
Princeton, WV and the late George Thomas Leake. He is also preceded in death by his grandparents; Eva and Henry Leake and Matilda and Toby Owsley, and his uncle; Franklin Royal
Leake.
He was a disabled truck driver and a member of the Canada Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife; Darlene Maynard Leake, daughter; Misty Dawn (Tommy)
Leake Prater of Logan, WV, son; David Randall Leake of Williamson, WV, sisters; Georgie
(Larry) Elkins of Hatfield, KY, Mary Ruth (Kevin) Kessler of Princeton, WV and Kathy (Jeff)
Bennett of Summersville, WV, seven grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.
Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Monday, July 16, 2012, at the Canada Freewill Baptist
Church.
