Gary Dale "Judge" Blackburn, 60 of Huddy, KY, passed away
Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Ky.
He was born September 23, 1952 at Williamson, WV the son of
the late Woodrow W. and Merle Smith Blackburn. He was also preceded
in death by one brother, Byron Neil Blackburn.
Gary was retired from the N. & S. Railroad as a foreman of the
Maintenance and Way Department. He had served as a Pike County
Deputy Sheriff and was a member of the Sharondale Church of Christ.
His greatest joy was riding with James Earl Williams and escorting the
Belfry High School Football team.
Survivors include his wife, Pebble Bray Blackburn of Huddy, KY: daughters, Tiffany
(Keith) Lowe of Huddy, Ky. and Theresa (Billy) Hatfield of Wharncliffe, WV; brothers, Jimmy
R. Blackburn of Chattaroy, WV and Larry (Bunny) Blackburn of Pinsonfork, KY; grandchildren, Brayleigh Lowe, Mackenzie Lowe, Brodie Lowe, Mallory Roberts and Garic Roberts and
a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home chapel with Mark Helton, J. R. Blackburn and Bob Werntz officiating. Burial will
follow in the Rutherford Cemetery, Huddy, Ky. with Owen Dudley, James E. Williams, Christopher Hamlett, Anthony Tackett, Jonathan Wright, Todd Cassell, Rufus Diamond, Edwin
DeMurray and Sam Blackburn serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Pike
County Deputy Sheriff's Department.
Visitation will be from 6 till 9 PM Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the Funeral Home Chapel.
Sandra Ruth Jarrell, 63 of Pikeville, KY, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012 in the
Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born August 4, 1949 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of the late Lestle and
Myrtle Marie Pugh Varney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl Jarrell; one
son, Tommy David Canada and two brothers, Kenneth Ray Varney and Michael Blake Varney.
Survivors include her son, James Earl (Toby) Jarrell of Pikeville, Ky; four sisters, Marlene Miller of Florida, Evelyn Meadows of Prestonsburg, Ky., Henrietta Hatfield of Blackberry,
Ky. and Janice Holbrook of North Carolina; two brothers, James L. "Buster" Varney of Stone,
Ky. and Ricky Varney of Kimper, Ky.; two grandchildren, Jonathan Taylor Jarrell and Sandra
Marie Jarrell of Pikeville, Ky.; one great grandchild, Jaden Taylor Jarrell and a host of other family and friends.
There will be no services she will be cremated per her request.
Helen Jean Smith, 88 of Williamson, WV passed away
Wednesday morning, October 31, 2012.
She was born March 6, 1924 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of the late Charley and Maude Ramey McCoy. She was also
preceded in death by her son-in-law, Howard Hatfield and three
brothers, Clarence "Buddy" McCoy, Clyde McCoy and Claude McCoy.
Helen was a retired from the Appalachian Regional Hospital
where she had been a Nurse's Aid. She also enjoyed being a volunteer of the Appalachian Regional Hospital Auxillary working in the gift shop and she was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Williamson.
Survivors include her two daughters, Ann (and the late Howard Hatfield) Hatfield of Belfry, Ky. and Brenda Joyce Smith of Belfry, Ky.; brother, Danny (Mary Ann) McCoy of Belfry,
Ky.; sister, Rita (James) Dehner of Florence, Ky.; grandchildren, Dawn Annette Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Sherrie (Randy) Casey of Forest Hills, Ky., Chris (Jennifer) Hatfield of Lexington, Ky. and Michael (Sarah) Hatfield of Raleigh, NC; one great grandchild, Danishai Casey of
Forest Hills, Ky. and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, November 3, 2012 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Mark Helton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View
Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

David Allen White Sr. age 64 of Ann Arbor, Michigan formerly of
Freeburn, Ky. went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 30, 2012.
The son of the late William and Lillian White of Freeburn. He was
also preceded in death by his brother, Benny John White of Groveport, Ohio.
His survivors include his former wife, Jeraline Keen and their son,
David Allen White Jr. of Mt. Sterling, Ky. He is also survived by a brother,
William White Jr. (Maria) of Ypsilanti, Michigan; sisters, Navajo White
Jude of McKinney, Texas, Betty White Hill of Columbus, Ohio and Karen
White Biliter (Jim) of Majestic, Ky. He is also survived by 7 special nieces and one nephew.
A 1966 graduate of Phelps High School of Phelps, Ky., he was the last of 6 family members to
graduate with 12 years of perfect attendance. On his graduation his parents were awarded a trophy for
72 years of perfect attendance by their 6 children.
A United Auto Workers Committeeman he worked for more than 34 years for the Ford Motor
Co, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was of the Baptist Faith and attended Sunday School, Bible School and
youth groups at the First Baptist Church of Phelps, Ky. He applied his faith with his love and by sharing with children in need.
David was known for his work ethic often working 7 days a week 12 hours a day. He began early in life as a newspaper delivery boy for the Williamson Daily News and also on weekends and summers with Betsy Ross bread truck and the Leatherwood Milk truck. He also delivered coal to neighbors.
David served in the U.S. Army and obtained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He was stationed at
Fort Campbell, Ky., Fort Ord, California and Fort Carson, Colorado.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Odis Blankenship, Rev. Tim Doddenhoff and Rev. Earl Jones Jr. officiating. Providing music will be Pete Wolford and special music will also be provided by the Rev.
Odis Blankenship and his wife, Debbie. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens,
Huddy, Ky. with Belfry Chapter #141 Disabled American Veterans conducting military graveside rites.
Family visitation will be from 5 till 7 PM and public visitation from 7 till 9 PM Friday at the Funeral Home Chapel.
Linda Dale Staggs, age 63 of Louisa, KY, passed away Thursday November 1, 2012 at
her residence. She was born May 1, 1949 at Matewan, W.V. the daughter of Wayne Edwards of
McCarr, Ky. and the late Frances Edwards. She was also preceded in death by one grandchild,
Hillary Staggs. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband; James Staggs of Louisa, Ky.; sons; Jamie Staggs of
McCarr, Ky., Joey (Angie) Staggs of Phelps, Ky. and Jason (Ashley) Staggs of McCarr, Ky.;
daughter, Brittany Staggs of Louisa, Ky.; brothers, Ronnie (Tina) Edwards of McCarr, Ky. and
Roger (Dinah) Edwards of McCarr, Ky.; sisters, Brenda Barker of Red Jacket, W.V., Rita Akers
of Louisa, Ky. and Judy (Chuck) Hilbert if Sevierville, Tn.; grandchildren, Alex Runyon, Emily

Bertha Williamson, 92 of Belfry, KY, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the
Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born May 27, 1920 at Belfry, Ky. the daughter of the late Hi and America Varney Williamson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John B. Williamson and by
several brothers and sisters. Bertha was a homemaker and of the Primitive Baptist Faith.
Survivors include two sons, John B. Williamson Jr. of Ohio and Michael (Stephanie)
Williamson of Belfry, Ky.; granddaughter, Tina Pemberton of Ohio; great grandchildren, Mikey
Williamson and Skyler Williamson both of Belfry, Ky. and Jake Pemberton of Ohio and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 3 PM with Dwayne Chapman
officiating. Burial will follow in the Family Cemetery, Canada, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Saturday at the Funeral Home Chapel.
Earl Luther Varney, Sr. 92 of Mt. Airy, NC formerly of Forest Hills, KY, passed away
Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He was born in Road Fork,
Ky. on August 21, 1920 the son of the late John M. and America Stanley Varney.
Mr. Varney was stationed in France and Germany with 733rd Railroad Battalion while
serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from N. & W. Railroad and was a
member and deacon of Salem Old Regular Baptist Church in Goody, Ky.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Earl L. Varney Jr. and wife, Jan of Mt.
Airy, NC; two grandsons, Anthony "Tony" Varney and wife, Melissa of Mt. Airy, NC and
Gregory Varney and wife, Jessica of Asheville, NC; four great grandchildren, Jasmine Varney,
Bryson Varney, Mason Varney and Margot Varney; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Harrison
Varney and Clifford and Kathryn Varney all of Forest Hills, Ky. In addition to his parents, Mr.
Varney was preceded in death by his wife, Magalene "Maggie" Varney; two brothers, Oakey
and Oscar Varney and three sisters, Opal Varney, Gladys V. Wellman and Nancy V. Loudermilk.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Salem Old Regular Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky.

Billy Gene Marcum, 81, of Aflex, KY, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at his home.
He was born October 9, 1931 at Chattaroy, WV the son of the late
George and Ethel Kirk Marcum. He was also preceded in death by his
sisters, Edna Lea Chaffins and Georgia Lea Marcum and one great grandson, Jordan Tyler Marcum.
Bill retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad in 1993 after 37
years of service. He attended the Gospel Revelation Tabernacle Church of Burnwell, Ky.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen Louise McCoy Marcum; three sons,
Billy Dale Marcum and James Gary (Penny) Marcum of Aflex, Ky. and Charles Ray
(Dawnetta) Marcum of Canada, Ky.; one daughter, Linda Gay (Thanel) Thacker of Aflex, Ky.;
twelve grandchildren, Billy Dale Marcum, Jr., Matthew Aaron (Amanda) Marcum, Violet
Sartin, Steve (Shannon) Leedy, Sherry (John) Brown, Gary Shane Marcum, Charles Anderson
Marcum, Dustin Tyler (Rachel) Marcum, Alyssa Dawn Marcum, Abigail Brooke Marcum,
Leah Shay Thacker and Larry Todd Dotson, Jr.; ten great grandchildren, Alivia Skye Marcum,
