Polly Ann Thacker Thornsbury Bishop age 78 of Cincinnati, OH, formerly of Canada,
KY, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Woods Edge Nursing Home in Cincinnati,
OH. She was born July 19, 1935 at Canada, KY, the daughter of the late Elder Joe and Ethel
Fuller Thacker. She was also preceded in death by her husband; Joe Bishop Jr., three brothers;
J. B. Thacker, Harold Thacker and Clifford Thacker and one sister; Joyce Thornsbury Fleming.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Deerfield Primitive Baptist Church in Linden, MI.
Left to mourn her passing are seven children; Lavonda (Charlie) Robinette of Bellville,
MI, David (Vonda) Thornsbury of Matewan, WV, Susan (Steve) Widner of Batavia, OH,
Debbie (Phil) Bujarski of Whitmore Lake, MI, Marie (Pete) Charles of Cincinnati, OH, Joann
(Jeff) Martini of Cincinnati, OH, and Joe (Heather) Bishop of Cincinnati, OH. three sisters;
Hazel Thornsbury Sturgill of Canada, KY, Dixie (Onis) Smith of Canada, KY, and Marie
(John) Jacobs of Canada, KY, one sister-in-law; Ina Gaye Thacker of Tuscon, AZ, one brotherin-law; Sid Fleming of Phelps, KY, nineteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Monday September 30, 2013 at the Big Creek Primitive Baptist
Church with special singing and prayer at 7 PM with Primitive Baptist Elders officiating.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Big Creek
Primitive Baptist Church with Elder David A. Thacker and Elder Randal Thornsbury
officiating. Burial will follow at Thacker Family Cemetery at Daggs Branch, Canada, Ky, with
Joseph Thornsbury, Bobby Lee Thornsbury, Michael Smith, Dart Phillips, Larry Varney and
Woody Robinette serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be John Jacobs, Onis Smith,
Bob Thornsbury, David A. Thacker, Bruce Hatfield and Randal Thornsbury.
Jeyenne Hope Stollings age 74 of Huddy, Ky passed away Sunday September 29, 2013 at
the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was born September 6, 1939 at
Huntington, WV, to the late Marco and Ruby Turley Thompson. She was also preceded in death
by one daughter; Donna Harless and one brother; Ray Thompson.
She was the owner of Thompson Grocery and a member of the Sharondale Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband; Joseph Milford Stollings, her children; Larry (Kelli)
Thompson of Pikeville, KY, Ricky (Chris) Harless of TX, Burian (Sandy) Marcum of
Williamson, WV, Rhonda (Scott) Halpern of FL, and Michael Stollings of FL eight
grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Tuesday October 1, 2013 at R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home with Donnie Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View
Memory Gardens, Huddy, KY, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 - 9 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Roy Francis, 71, of Stone, Ky. went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 2,
2013 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Ky.
He was born December 24, 1941 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Jesse and Ola
Francis. Roy was also preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes H. Francis.
Roy was the retired owner of Francis Trucking, he attended the Sharondale Church of
Christ and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Elouise Williamson Francis; two sons, Steve (Tracy) Francis
and Timmy (Donna) Francis all of Stone, KY; daughter, Kim (Jeff) Canterbury of Stone, KY;
step sons, Duane (Linda) Smith and Derrick (Amy) Smith all of Brushy, KY; two brothers, Ted
(Elsie) Francis of Stone, KY and Quincy (Josephine) Francis of Elizabethtown, KY; two sisters,
Nell (Paris) Canada of Brushy, KY and Garlene (Clyde) Workman of Pikeville, KY; nine
grandchildren, Jaimie (John) McPeek of Stone, KY, Brooke, Josh, Zachry, Nick and Macky
Francis, Brad, Carter and Hollie Canterbury all of Stone, KY; one great grandchild, Kyla Curry
of Stone, KY and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 2 PM in the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Werntz officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery,
Rockhouse Fork of Sidney, Ky. with his grandsons and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Friday and Saturday night from 6 - 9 PM at the funeral home with
special services Saturday night at 7 PM.
Deborah L. Hunter, 56, of McAndrews, Ky. went home to be
with the Lord Saturday, October 5, 2013 in the Pikeville Medical
Center after battling cancer for two years.
Debbie was born October 7, 1956 in Williamson, WV the
daughter of the late Herbert Lee and Della Beatrice Cassell Shelton.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Blackburn; sister,
Patricia Hager and a special cousin, Bobby Cassell.
She was employed by the Pike County Board of Education for
many years; a member of Stone Chapter #533 Order of the Eastern Star
and of the First Baptist Church of Belfry.
Survivors include her husband, William Hunter of McAndrews,
KY; daughters, Erin (Dave) Compton of Pikeville, Ky. and Jamie
Hunter of Richmond, KY; brothers, Blaine Blackburn of McCarr, KY,
Roger (Beth) Shelton of Alganac, MI, Bill Shelton of FL and Gary Shelton of McAndrews, KY;
grandsons, Will and Blaine Compton, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews
and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 12 Noon at the First Baptist
Church of Belfry with Brother Mark Helton officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis
Memorial Gardens, Stone, Ky. with Ritchie Foit, Matt Marcum, Jackie Cole, Ryan Chapman,
Mark Gannon and Stoney Blackburn serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Bennett
West and Bill Bevins.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Monday and Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of
Belfry with special services Tuesday night at 7 PM.
Joseph Albert "Joe" Gugelchuk of Sidney, Ky. died on September 26, 2013 at the Long
Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook, New York. He was 93.
He was born in Hardy, Ky. on June 1, 1920 and moved with his family to Toler, Ky. and
then to Sidney, Ky. where he lived for 80 years.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 in World War II during which he earned
the rank of Sergeant and was honored with the Purple Heart. Upon leaving the military he
attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and returned to his home in Kentucky. He worked
in the Williamson, WV area as an electrician and subsequently founded his own business,
known during most of the more than 50 years that he was the owner and operator as Williamson
Builders Service and Supply. He was active in civic affairs, having served as President of the
Williamson Lions Club and was involved in the 525 Flying Club for over 20 years.
Mr. Gugelchuk is survived by his daughter, Sally (Hubert) Keen of Farmingdale, NY and
son, Larry of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by two sisters, Anna (Rudolph) Stepp of
Sidney, KY and Helen (Gene) Williamson of Charleston, WV and by a brother, Frank (Mary
Alice) of Rogersville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Smith
Gugelchuk, a grandson, Christopher Keen, his parents, Nicholas (Mike) Gugelchuk and Mary
Walkowicz Gugelchuk and by two brothers, John and Tony.
Calling hours will be held for Mr. Gugelchuk on October 12, 2013 from 10 AM until
noon at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, KY. Graveside services will follow at the Family
Cemetery, Sidney, KY with William Akers officiating. Belfry Chapter #141 DAV will conduct
Military Graveside Services.
Mary Ann "Betty Jo" Ray, 76 of Sidney, KY, passed away
Wednesday October 9, 2013 at her residence. She was born January 31,
1937 in Pike County, Ky to the late Ballard and Ida Golf Gibson. She is
also preceded in death by her husband; Vernon Ray, one son; Jeffery
Lee Ray, one daughter; Verna Kay Ray, brothers; Elmer Gibson and
Tommie Gibson, sisters; Wildia Carter, Bertha Birdcell, Eunice Crum,
Eula Johnson, Minnie Molhane, Lillian Muncy and Lillie McQuire,
grandson; Jeffery Lee Ray Jr. and great granddaughter; Jasmine Gail Lowe.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Brushy Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son; Gerald (Euna) Ray of Rockhouse, KY, one daughter; Sherrie
Ray (Donald) Smith of Pinsonfork, KY, brother, Don (Patty) Gibson of Hatfield, KY; sisters,
Dixie (John) Maynard of Huntington, WV and Martha Combs address unknown: five
grandchildren; Mathew (Diana) Ray, Euna (Alex) Blackburn, Jeffery Ryan Ray, Justin Ray
Lowe and Jason Michael Lowe, three great grandchildren; Emily Ann Ray, Carman Lynn Lowe
and Evan Thomas Ray and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Brush Creek Baptist
Church starting at 1 PM with John George Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Ray
Cemetery, Brushy, Ky. with Justin Ray Lowe, Jason Michael Lowe, Mathew Thomas Ray,
Alex Blackburn, Donald Smith, Tyler Varney, K. J. Williamson and Roger Reed Jr. serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Friday and Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home with a
special singing service Friday at 7 PM and special services Saturday at 7 PM.
Glendene Stanley, 76 of Aflex, Ky. passed away Friday,
October 11, 2013 in the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Ky.
She was born June 24, 1937 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of
the late Clyde and Ada Blackburn Stanley. She was also preceded in
death by her son, Randy Dale Cline and a very special brother-in-law, Fred Pinson.
Glendene was a factory worker, a longtime employee of Food
City and a member of Toler Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon (Brian) Reed of Aflex,
Ky.; sisters, Verlene Pinson of Frankfort, Ky. and Ernestine Wilson of Bethleham, Ky.;
brothers, Willard Stanley of Columbus, Ohio and James (Yvonne) Stanley of Turkey Creek,
Ky.; grandchildren, Autumn (Ryan) Chapman, Skylar Reed, Brodie Reed and Richard Caleb;
great grandchildren, Zoey Gibson and Daegan Scott; special niece, Michelle Pinson Horne;
special nephew, Mike Pinson.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 14, 2013 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with Donnie Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View
Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with Brodie Reed, Mike Pinson, James Stanley, Joe Stanley,
Ryan Chapman, Andrew Thompson and Brad Fish serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer is Brian Reed.
