Loretta Blackburn Dempsey, 72 of Turkey Creek, Ky. went home
to be with her Lord, Monday, November 4, 2013 surrounded by her
loving family.
She was born May 21, 1941 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of
the late Boyd and Esta Lowe Blackburn. She was also preceded in death
by her loving husband, Clayton Elbert Dempsey.
Loretta was employed by the Pike County Board of Education
having worked in the cafeteria at Southside Elementary School and was a
member of the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her loving daughter, Deborah Ann (Randy) Fields of Turkey Creek,
Ky.; brothers, Bill (Joy) Blackburn Belleville, MI, Harold (Brenda) Blackburn, Jimmy (Sharon)
Blackburn and Steve (Susan) Blackburn all of Turkey Creek, Ky.; sisters, Kathleen Scarberry of
London, Ohio and Barbara (Earlin) Swafford of Turkey Creek, Ky.; grandchildren, Paula
Conner, Lisa Fields and Larry Fields; great grandchildren, Derek Robinson and Ashley Conner
and a host of loving family, friends and her Church family.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 6, 2013 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with Mikey Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Dempsey-Horner
Family Cemetery, Turkey Creek, Ky. with Greg Swafford, Eric Swafford, Berkley Hardin,
James Michael Blackburn, Steve Blackburn and Barry Hager serving as pallbearers. Honorary
Pallbearers are Paul Smith, Jim Blackburn, Danny Harvel, Dewey Dingess II, Danny Bevins
and Kevin Ratliff.
Visitation will be from 6 - 9 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home Chapel with special
services at 7 PM with Jimmy Stanley officiating.

John R. Phillips, 87 of Hardy, Ky. went to his Heavenly
Home, Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Not only was he united with
his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ but also with his wife Laura who
entered Heaven on May 9, 2010.
John R. was born January 24, 1926 to Ezra and Ocie Phillips
who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by four
sisters, Helen Rolen, Hester Davis, Peggy McCoy and Betty
Runyon.
John R. was a faithful member of the Hardy Church of Christ
where he humbly served as an Elder for over 40 years. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Germany with the U. S. Army Military Police Unit
as a guard at the Nuremburg Palace. He was retired from Coal-Mac Inc. and prior to his
employment there he served as Pike County Assistant Judge under Wayne T. Rutherford for 12
years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Katherine Bevins of Hardy, Ky.; a son, Richie
(Susie) Phillips of Pikeville, Ky.; a brother, Greg Phillips of Reno, Nevada; five grandchildren,
Christa Bevins McCoy, Amy Bevins, Sunny Phillips Thacker, Windy Phillips Kidd and Misty
Phillips Preece; nine great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 - 9 PM Thursday, November 7, 2013 at R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home, Belfry.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Friday, November 8, 2013 at the Funeral Home
with Ed Lockard and Shane Lockard officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View
Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with Billy Thacker, Aaron Preece, Brad Kidd, John Duty, Joey
Duty and Billy McCoy serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Fuzzy Keesee, Wayne
T. Rutherford, John Doug Hayes, Rodney Scott, Keith Hall, Jackie Hubbard, David Hubbard,
Tom Hunt, Clay Hunt, Tom Runyon and Men of the Hardy Church of Christ. Belfry Chapter
#141 D. A. V. will conduct Military Graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hardy Church of Christ Building Fund.

Douglas Merriett Gooslin Jr., 72 of McCarr, Ky. passed away
Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at his home.
He was born May 7, 1941 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the
late Cuzzie Wallace Gooslin and Douglas M. Gooslin Sr. He was
also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Gail Gooslin; brothers,
Winston Gooslin and Thomas Lee Gooslin and sisters, Ruby
Hardesty, Anna Lou Smith and Nina Mae Musick.
He was a retired coal miner, a Kentucky Colonel and a
member of Faith Mission Church, McCarr, Ky.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Adkins Gooslin of McCarr,
Ky.; sons, Douglas M. (Tuttie) Gooslin III and Benny Lee Gooslin of
McCarr, Ky.; daughters, Teresa Gooslin of Canada, Ky. and
Alexandria Gooslin of McCarr, Ky.; brothers, Otis (Melissa)
Gooslin, Jimmy Dale Gooslin, Gordon Dean (Judy) Gooslin and Brian Keith (Tammy) Gooslin
all of McCarr, Ky.; sisters, Glenna (Leslie) Hatfield, Bonnie Young, Jackie (Eugene) Kellian
and Nancy (Paul) Cisco all of McCarr, Ky.; grandchildren, Shane Douglas Justice, Eve Arianna
Justice, Benjamin Thomas Gooslin and Tiffany Casey; great grandchildren, Jonathan Murphy
and Joshua Murphy and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 1 PM at Faith Mission
Church, McCarr, Ky. with Jimmy Fields officiating. Entombment will follow at the Gooslin
Cemetery, McCarr, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Thursday and Friday at the Church with special
services both nights at 7 PM.

Harold Ray Bishop, 49 of Canada, Ky. passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the
South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital
He was born December 29, 1963 in Floyd County, Ky. the son of the late Raymond
Bishop and Jeannette Henson Bishop. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Steve Winhoven.
Survivors include sons, Christopher Ray and Joseph Paul Bishop both of Dayton, Ohio
and Harold Ray Bishop Jr. of Kentucky; sister, Sharon Trivedi of Lockport, IL; brothers,
Edward Winhoven of Danville, WV and Fred Bishop of Lake in the Hills, IL; four
grandchildren and his best friends, John and Brittany Owens of Canada, Ky.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 3 PM in the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with Buddy Kendrick officiating.
Visitation will be held from 1 PM until the funeral at the Chapel.

Jerry "Dale" Delano Bevins, 56 of Corbin, KY formerly of
Burnwell, KY passed away Friday November 8, 2013 at Corbin, KY.
He was born August 23, 1957 in Pike County, KY to the late Jerry Mar
and Essie Thacker Bevins.
He was a coal miner.
He is survived by two sons; Jerry Chase (Lindsay) Bevins of
Chattanooga, TN. and Davin Randall Bevins of Chattanooga, TN. one
daughter; Leah Brianne Bevins Bevins of Corbin, KY. four brothers;
Olbie (Patty) Bevins of Aflex, KY. Greg (Teresa) Bevins of Burnwell,
KY. Trenton (Arminda) Bevins of Corbin, KY. and Troy (Clara) Bevins of Brunwell, KY.
several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday November, 13, 2013 at R. E.
Rogers Funeral Home with John Victor McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Bevins
Cemetery, Burnwell, KY. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 P.M. Tuesday November 12, 2013 at the funeral home.

Bobby Joe Perkins, 76 of Lynchburg, VA formerly of Williamson, WV died Monday,
November 18, 2013 at his residence.
He was born April 7, 1937 in Williamson, WV the son of the late Albert and Corie
Woodward Perkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie
Perkins; one brother, Ernest Perkins and one sister, Lois Runyon.
He was retired from the City of Lynchburg water department.
Survivors include two brothers, Albert Perkins and Billy Perkins and his wife, Diane of
Williamson, WV; seven sisters, Phyllis Gannon and Dimple Stumbo both of Williamson, WV,
Joyce Perkins of Austin, TX, Ann Blevins and husband Murl of Williamson, WV, Loretta May
and husband, Ray of Limestone, TN, Helen Wolf and husband, Statton of Huntington, WV and
Cora Ratliff and husband, John of Williamson, WV; brother-in-law, Freddie Runyon of
Williamson, WV and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation for friends will be Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 7 - 9 PM at R. E.
Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 PM Friday, November 22, 2013 at Collins
Cemetery, Dan's Branch, WV.

Tina Renee Jarvis, 38 of Columbus, Ohio formerly of Naugatuck
WV passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 in Columbus.
She was born December 21, 1974 in California the daughter of Shelda
Stevens Harr of Asheville, Ohio and the late John Hart "Junior" Jarvis. She
was also preceded in death by her maternal grandfather of Ray Stevens and
paternal grandparents, Don and Verlie Barrett.
She was employed by UPS.
In addition to her Mother, she is survived by three children, Jeremy
Jarvis, Jessica Spradlin and Caitlyn Spradlin all of Columbus, Ohio; step
father, Charles Garland; sisters, Tora Stevens, Terry Jarvis and Tammy (Eddie) Kinser all of
Columbus, Ohio, Misty of Spokane, WA and Teresa of Columbus, Ohio; step brothers, Charlie
Garland Jr. and Gary Garland both of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Aliza and Jordan and a
special Aunt, Carla Raver.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with Earl White officiating. Burial will follow in the Jarvis Cemetery,
Naugatuck, WV. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 22, 2013 from 6 - 9 PM at the Funeral Home
with special services at 7 PM.
