William "Jim" Varney, Jr. 82 of Belfry passed away on Friday. On
November 11th in the afternoon, a freak fire accident tragically injured my
precious Jim, my husband of 61 years. This injury resulted in his death at
1:07 AM on November 22, 2013 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
After all the suffering he endured, God said, "That's enough" and
sent one of his special angels to carry him from his earthly home to his mansion in Heaven.
He was a faithful member of the Pinsonfork Church of God for 30 years.
He was born to the late William and Jennie Varney on August 9, 1931. Also preceding
him in death was his darling son, Mickey Ray Varney and his brothers, Haskell "Chick", Bruce
and Donald Lee "Pap" Varney.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing the love of his life, his wife, Thelma "Lancaster"
Varney of Belfry; his precious sons, also the pride of their Dad, James Michael (Patricia)
Varney of Turkey Creek, Ky., Gary Lee (Betty) Varney of Sevierville, TN, Steven Keith
(Sherri) Varney of Belfry, Ky., Gregory Alan (Heather) Varney of Pikeville, Ky. and Kevin
Thomas (Stacy) Varney of Harold, Ky.; his brother, Selmer "Tobo" (Rita) Varney of Tecumseh,
MI; sisters, Mae Wolford of Dandridge, TN and Phoebe (Carvin) Cornett of MI; special brother
and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Loretta Kendrick of Canton, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Sheila
Varney of Canada, Ky.; fourteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
The family will be receiving friends at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home after 6 PM Saturday
and Sunday with special services both nights at 7 PM with the Pinsonfork Church of God.
The funeral will be held Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11 AM in the Funeral Home
chapel with Todd Claypool and Ronnie Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the
Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, KY with his sons and grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Claudia Jane Dotson Stafford, 98 of Ransom, Ky. passed away Saturday, November 23,
2013 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born September 12, 1915 at Phelps, Ky. the daughter of the late Jordan and Ira
Coleman Hager. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Don Dotson, whom she
married in 1931 and her second husband, Trimble Stafford; daughter, Ann Harless and son, Don Dotson.
Claudia was a homemaker and a member of the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church for many years.
Survivors include four daughters, Phyllis Higgins of Piketon, Ohio, Helen Roberts of
Delaware, Ohio, Dorothy Glaze of Lucasville, Ohio and Brenda Wright of Oldsmar, Florida;
one son, Paul Dotson of Ransom Ky.; two sisters, Anna Hubbard of London, Ohio and Gladys
Hatfield of Ransom, Ky.; twenty grandchildren; several great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 11 AM at the Bluesprings
Freewill Baptist Church with Larry Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow in the Dotson
Cemetery, Ransom, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Sunday and Monday night from 6 - 8 PM at the Bluesprings
Freewill Baptist Church.
Helen Louise Workman Phillips, 71 of Ransom, KY, passed away
Saturday November 23, 2013 at her residence. She was born April 1, 1942
at Williamson, WV, to the late John B. and Della Louise Hensley
Workman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Luther
Phillips, one daughter; Delana Ann Phillips, one sister; Rose Stanley and
one brother; Johnny Workman.
She was a homemaker and of the Christian Faith.
She is survived by four daughters; Debra (Bill) Smith of Phelps, KY,
Donna (Randy) Thompson of Chattaroy, WV, Diane (Tony) Ison of
Ransom, KY, and Harley Denise Bolen of Ransom, KY, three sons; Charles Luther Phillips Jr.
of Ransom, KY, Eugene Phillips of Hardy, KY, and John Randall (Tamara) Phillips of Ransom,
KY, four sisters; Linda Workman of Stone, KY, Chloe Cook of Williamson, WV, Loretta
Workman of Williamson, WV, and Kathy Brown of Lick Creek, WV, grandchildren; Donny
Sullivan, Jason Sullivan, Kristal Thomas, Renee Phillips, Luke (Kathy) Phillips, Rebecca Rice,
Anthony Ison, Megan Ison, Marquitta Ison, Ryan Ison, Alex Ison, Nikki Phillips, special
granddaughter; Kacie Norman, great grandchildren; Makena Sullivan, Taylor Sullivan, Briona
Haynes, Jayden Thomas, Ragan Rice, Parker Rice, Donovan Yates, Calab Yates, Braylan Ison
and Navaya Ison and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday November 26, 2013 at R. E.
Rogers Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Ball and Pastor Danny Ball officiating. Burial will
follow at Phillips Cemetery, Ransom, KY, family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Monday night at the funeral home with special services at 7 PM.
Ersie Marie Francis Stepp, 58 of Parkersburg, WV, formerly of
Williamson passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013 at her residence in
Parkersburg. She was born February 16, 1955 at Williamson, WV, to the
late Henry Thomas Francis and Mildred Charles Francis. She was preceded
in death by her husband; Charles "Pete" David Stepp Sr. and a brother-inlaw; Carl McCoy.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Souls Harvest Church of Belfry, KY.
She is survived by one son; Charles Stepp of Parkersburg, WV. two daughters; Tina
(Patrick Hensley) Stepp of Belfry, KY, and Mildred Whitt of Parkersburg, WV, one brother;
Junior Henry (Josie) Francis of Columbus, OH, two sisters; Maxine (Mike) Thacker of
Williamson, WV, and Rita McCoy of Williamson, WV, five grandchildren; Tyler Farris Stepp,
Brooklynn Stepp, Katelynn Whitt, William Henry Whitt and Jayden Stepp, special friends;
Nancy Cook Robinette, Paul Caudill and a host of loving family and friends.

Joe Edward Hatfield, 88 of Belfry, Ky. passed away Tuesday,
November 26, 2013 at the Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born September 5, 1925 at Sidney, Ky. the son of the
late Howard and Sarah Smith Hatfield. He was also preceded in death
by his wife, Wilma Nell McCoy Hatfield and brothers, Layton, Bert,
James, Roy and John Lee Hatfield.
Joe was a line crew supervisor for American Electric Power
Company and a World War II Veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include one son, Jeffery (Gina) Hatfield of South Williamson, Ky.; one
daughter, Sheila Hatfield Boardman of Frankfort, Ky.; his special friend, Christine Smith of
Ransom, Ky. and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Smith and Elizabeth Blanton officiating. Burial will follow in
the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with James Howard Hatfield, Gary Hatfield,
Terry Joe Hatfield, Keith Hatfield, Roger Hatfield, Keith Carden and Teddy Bruce Smith
serving as pallbearers. Belfry Chapter #141 will conduct Military Graveside Services.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 29, 2013 from 6 - 9 PM at the funeral home
chapel.
Letha Johnson, 96 of McCarr, Ky. passed away Tuesday, November
26, 2013 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital Emergency Room.
She was born February 10, 1917 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of
the late Rosie Pinson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Doc
Stallard Johnson; sisters, Edna McCoy, Fern Carey, Peggy Huddle and Bell
Williamson and brothers, Troy Francis, Twyman Francis and Caudle Francis.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Matewan, WV.
Survivors include her children, Vada Varney of Dry Ridge, Ky., Nora May of Ransom,
Ky., Ernestine (Belvin) Boyd of North Carolina, Larry (Karen) Johnson of Illinois, Lloyd
Sonny (Gwen) Johnson of Beechcreek, WV, Danny Johnson of McCarr, Ky. and Debbie
Johnson of Matewan, WV; twelve grandchildren, host of great grandchildren and great great
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 29, 2013 at 1 PM at the First Assembly
of God Church, Matewan, WV with Lowell Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Alley
Cemetery, Ransom, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 28, 2013 after 6 PM at the Church.
Deloris Lee Smith, 79 of Sidney, KY was born March 03, 1934, to
the late George and Eva Booth Lewis at Tomahawk, KY. Her parents died
while she was very young and she was raised by her dear Aunt and Uncle,
the late Beulah (Mom) and Elbert (Uncle Hop) Williamson. She was also
preceded in death by a sister.
On the evening of Thanksgiving, November 28, 2013, God saw she
was getting very tired. While she was surrounded by her children and only
sister Ina, he took her on to her Heavenly home. Meeting her there was her
loving husband of 60 years, Burgess Smith, whom she had lovingly cared
for the last 11 years until his death in 2012.
Those left to mourn her passing include her five children; Lahoma (John) Damron of
Turkey Creek, KY., Randy ( Patty) Smith of Sidney, KY., Betty (Gary) Varney of Seviervillie,
TN., John (Dondra) Smith of Sidney, KY., and Teresa (Tim) Thornbury of Canada, KY. She is
also survived by one sister, Ina Jean (Fonso) Bogar of Sidney, KY. She was a Nanny to eleven
Grandchildren; Patrick J. (Cindy) Baisden, Leann (Todd) Brannock, Angela (Chuck) Morley,
Shane (Erica) Smith, Miranda (Jason) Mikles, Ryan T. (Cydney) Thornbury, Tishona Smith,
Candice Varney, Emma (Mike) Freeman, Heath Varney, Amy Thornbury and eleven Great
Grandchildren. She is also survived by two nieces that she loved dearly, Rita (Bob) Scott and
Clarissa (David) Scalf.
If mom knew you, she loved you, worried about you, and would have helped you anyway
she could. She was the most selfless person you would ever meet. Our family's loss is Heaven's
gain.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 01, 2013 at 1 PM at the R.E Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel Belfry, KY. with Shawn Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the
Smith Cemetery, Sidney, Ky. with sons, son-in-laws and grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Visitation, celebrating her life will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 after 6 PM at
the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Appalachian Hospice,
Pikeville, KY or to Sidney Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member for the past 33 years.
