Herbert McClellan "Herbie" Farley Jr., 55 of McCarr, Ky. passed away
Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital Emergency Room.
Herbie was born March 23, 1959 at Williamson, WV the son of Ruby
Eleanor Duty Farley of McCarr, Ky. and the late Herbert McClellan Farley Sr.
Herbie was an entrepreneur having been involved in several businesses
in both Pike and Mingo Counties. He was the owner of Farley Trucking
Company, McCarr, Ky. He loved talking to all of his friends no matter
the time and place. He was of the Pentecostal Faith.
Beside his Mother, he is survived by his Fiancee of 15 years, Tammy Cooper (Farley) of
McCarr, KY; sons, Herbert McClellan (Amanda) Farley III of St. Albans, WV, William Glenn
(Amanda) Farley of Sumerco, WV and Justin Lewis Farley of McCarr, KY; daughter, Alexus
McKennae Farley of McCarr, KY; step son, Dwayne Cooper of South Williamson, KY;
brothers, Talbert Randy (Linda "Cookie") Farley, Kenneth L. (Connie) Farley and Brian K.
(Linda) Farley all of McCarr, KY; grandchildren, Hayden Myles and Makenzie Dawn Farley;
nieces and nephews; Angela and Michael Coleman, Brianna Kurtis Kendrick, B. K. Farley,
Rachel Justin Blackburn, Kearia Farley and Alexandra Faley, great niecs; Isabella Coleman,
special friends, Thomas Francis and Rex Varney and a host of cousins and other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home
Chapel with Ronnie Wolford and John George Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in the
Farley Cemetery, McCarr, KY with Rex Varney, Thomas Francis, Drewey Sincell, Barry
Ratliff, Jerry May and Dwayne Cooper serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Sunday and Monday night from 6 - 9 PM at the Funeral Home with
special services both nights at 7 PM.
Alex Benjamin "Benny" Edmiston, 56 of Hatfield, Ky. passed away
Friday, May 9, 2014 at his home.
Benny was born August 6, 1957 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late
Alex and Betty Lou Edmiston. He was a disabled coal miner.
He leaves behind to mourn him with broken hearts two sons; Alex B.
(Tammy) Edmiston Jr. of Hatfield, Ky. and Jeremy (Manisha) Edmiston of
South Carolina; one grandson, who was the sunshine of his life, Colton
Ashane Edmiston; brother, George (Judy) Edmiston of Hatfield, KY;
sisters, Sandy Dingess, Pennie (David) Copley all of Hatfield, KY; four
aunts, Janie (Denny Ray) Marcum of Hatfield, KY whom he thought of and
loved as a second Mommy, Edith (Gary) Wellman of Lenore, WV, Bonnie (Jim) Teeters of
Delbarton, WV and Connie Lowe of South Carolina; mother of his children, Vicki Williams
Kilgore of Slaters Branch, KY and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Sunday, May 11, 2014 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home
with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Edmiston Family
Cemetery, Hatfield, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 6 - 9 PM at the Funeral Home Chapel.
Freddie Ray Mounts, 38, of Williamson, WV. passed away Saturday, May
10, 2014 at his home.
Freddie was born March 29, 1976 at Welch, WV the son of Freddie Roy
Bishop of McCarr, KY and Jubilee Mounts Kennedy and his step father,
Ronnie Kennedy of McCarr, KY. He was also preceded in death by his sister,
Amanda Sue Bishop.
Freddie was a coal miner.
Besides his parents Freddie is also survived by his children, Savannah
Huddle of Hatfield, KY and Dustin Huddle of Hatfield, KY; his fiancée, Rebecca Mabe of
Williamson, WV; two nieces, Brittany and Lacey Bishop and three step brothers, Ronnie
Kennedy, Donnie Lee Kennedy and Robbie Kennedy all of McCarr, KY.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 1:00 PM at R.E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with David Sratton officiating. Burial will follow at Alley Cemetery, Ransom,
KY with Dustin, Stevie, Gary, Ronnie, Donnie and Robbie serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Wednesday night from 6-9 PM at the funeral home.
Daniel Walter "Danny" Runyon, 69 of Huddy, Ky, passed away Tuesday May 13, 2014 at
Pikeville Medical Center. He was born July 26, 2014 at Huddy, KY, to the late Bogar and
Mandy May Runyon. He is also preceded in death by one brother; Albert Runyon.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of the U. M. W. A.
He is survived by his wife; Mildred Smith Runyon of Huddy, KY, one son; Albert Runyon
of Huddy, KY, brother; Freddie (Carol) Runyon of McCarr, KY, sister; Geneva Blackburn of
Taylor, MI, and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon Saturday May 17, 2014 at R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home with Lowell Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at Albert Runyon Cemetery,
Huddy, KY, with Freddie Runyon II, Rick Estepp, Ernie Blackburn, Steve Blackburn, Robbie
Cisco and Jimmy Williamson serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Thursday night and Friday night at the funeral home with
special services at 7 P.M. Friday night.
James Lee Cook, 85 of Hatfield, Ky. passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at his
residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 18, 1929 in Kanawha, WV one of sixteen children born to the
late William Callahan and Gertrude Wilson Cook.
He was a retired coal miner from Eastern Coal Corporation; a member of the
UMWA and a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps having served during the
Korean Conflict.
Survivors include one daughter with whom he made his home with, Linda Sue
(Gregory Lee) Higgins of Hatfield, KY; one son, David Lee (Lesia Ann) Cook of
Canada, KY; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Alison) Higgins, Amy (Jeremy) Smith and
Ashley (Timmy) Reed II; great grandchildren, Jacob David Smith, Joshua Thomas
Smith, Madelyn Sophia Reed, Avery Tanner Higgins, James Harper Reed and Timothy Isaac Reed.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel
with Shawn Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery, Sidney, KY with Jeremy Smith,
Timothy Reed II, Nathaniel Higgins, George "Stew" Cook, Justin Cook, Adam Cook, Kevin D. Blackburn,
Mickey Blackburn, Kent Stanley and Wesley Smith serving as pallbearers. Belfry DAV Chapter #141 will
conduct military graveside services.
Visitation will be held from 6 -9 PM Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home with special services at 7 PM
with Jeremy Smith officiating.
Deborah "Debbie" Whitt Preece, 61 of Ellenton, Florida, formerly
married to Tom Preece of Delbarton, WV passed away Wednesday, May
21, 2014 at her daughter's home at Huddy, Kentucky.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great -grandmother and
was a selfless, caring person, beloved by everyone who had the pleasure of
knowing her.
Debbie was preceded in death by her father and mother, Fredrick Earl
and Audrey Mae Frye Whitt. She is survived by three children; Cindy
Bowen of Winston-Salem, NC, Kim (Scott) Varney of Huddy, KY and
Jennifer Preece of Delbarton, WV; five grandchildren, Miranda Whitt, Morgan Varney, Devin
Varney, Emily Bowen and Ian Preece; one great-grandchild, Merci Elkins; four brothers,
Michael (Nancy) Whitt of Mayden, NC, Fred (Melanie) Whitt of St. Petersburg, FL, Terry
(Tammy) Whitt of Delbarton, WV and Willie (Corrina) Whitt of San Antonio, TX; one sister,
Wilma (Johnny) Johnson of Matewan, WV; a host of nieces and nephews and one beloved
friend, Pat Tabor.
In keeping with Debbie's wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a
later date. In lieu of flowers, you can make donations to: Appalachian Hospice Care, South
Mayo Trail, Pikeville, KY or Tidewell Hospice Care of Palmetto, FL. She will be missed by many.
Gaynell Kendrick, 80 of Belfry, KY went home to be with her Lord, Friday, May 23, 2014 at
the Pikeville Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Gay was born February 22, 1934 at McAndrews, KY the daughter of the late Sidney and Ida
King Abshire. She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Kendrick; sister, Shirley
Teaster and brother, John Abshire.
She was a retired receptionist for Dr. Angco, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She
was a faithful and loving member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Robie L. "Buddy" Kendrick of Belfry, KY; son, Wesley
(Terri) Kendrick of Belfry, KY; sister, Jettilee Hatfield of Ransom, KY; grandchildren, Colinda
(Haskell) Vinson of Sevierville, TN, Sara Kendrick of Huntingon, WV, Zachary Kendrick of
Williamson, WV and Kristin Kendrick of New Orleans, LA; great grandchildren, Audrey and
Mason Vinson and Bentley Davidson; sister-in-law, Barbara Abshire; nieces, Debbie (Rick)
Runyon, Beth Varney and Renee Maynard; nephew, Rod Hatfield and a host of other nieces,
nephews and many friends, who will miss her dearly.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with Ronnie Kendrick, Mickey Maynard and Raymond Stanley officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, KY with the men of the
church serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 - 9 PM Sunday and Monday at the Funeral Home with a
special singing service Sunday at 7 PM and preaching services Monday at 7 PM.
Fred Cecil Charles, 92 of Goody, KY died May 25, 2014 following a
long illness.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 27th from 6 - 8 PM at
Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky. A service will be held on
Wednesday, May 28th at 11 AM with Todd Claypool officiating at
Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky with burial immediately
following the service at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, KY.
Pallbearers will be Donovan Slone, Rock Henry, Dave Gay, Fred Goins,
Freddy Goins Jr. and Bud Slone.
Mr. Charles was born on April 20, 1922 in Greenup, Ky. to the late
George Charles and Hester Fife Charles. He married
Lola West on July 14, 1943 at Jenkins, Ky.
Fred owned and operated Lola and Fred's Gas Station and Drive Inn in the 1940's before
moving to Palatka, FL where he ran a successful chicken farm. Fred and Lola returned to the
Williamson area in 2006 to the family homestead. Fred was an active member of the Palatka
Church of God and the Pinsonfork Church of God.
Fred is survived by his wife, Lola Charles of Goody, Ky.; a daughter, Freda Charles of
Abingdon, VA; six grandchildren, eight grand children and one great grandchild. He was
preceded in death by his daughter, Reda Charles Tyson.
