Gloria Jean Shortridge, 62, of Burnwell, KY, passed away Monday
September 29, 2014 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born March 4, 1952 in Pike County, KY, to the late Forbe
Blevins and Nellie Mae Stacy Smith. She is also preceded in death by a
sister, Deborah Hodge.
She was CNA for Pro Careers Health and of the Gospel Revelation
Tabernacle Church Faith.
She is survived by two sisters; Barbara Briceno of Turkey Creek, KY
and Constance Conte of West Park, FL; nieces and nephews, Felicia
Briceno, Nicolas Briceno, Tina Sandlin, James Michael Conte, James
Childress II and Chad Childress; special cousin, Michael Stanley; several great nieces and a
host of loving family and friends.
Visitation will be from 6 until 9 PM Thursday night October 2, 2014 at the funeral home
chapel.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gospel
Revelation Tabernacle Church in Burnwell, KY.

Ollie Nichols, 93, of McCarr, Ky. departed this life on Wednesday,
October 1, 2014, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.
She was born August 4, 1921, at Ira, Virginia the daughter of the late
Glenn and Louise Jackson Dotson. She was also preceded in death by her
husband, Monroe Nichols; sons, Billy Joe Nichols, Jimmy Nichols and
Johnny Nichols; brothers, Kenis Dotson, Charles Ellis Dotson, Jerry Buster
Dotson, Glenn Dotson Jr. and Paul Dotson; sisters, Jeannie Dotson Burns and
Thelma Johnson and sister-in-law, Archie Dotson.
Ollie was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She loved to
plant and watch her flowers grow. She was an avid seamstress and loved to
make clothes.
Survivors include a son, Robert Nichols of Winchester, KY; a daughter, Barbara Ann
Nichols of McCarr, KY; sisters, Charlene Dempsey of Morrice, MI and Ann Hatfield of Phelps,
KY; sister-in-law, Lois Dotson of Owosso, MI; brother-in-law, Martin Burns of Cadillac, MI;
several grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 4, 2014, at 12 Noon at the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, WV
with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 2, 2014, from 7 - 9 PM and Friday, October 3,
2014 from 6 - 9 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel. Special services will be held Friday night at 7
PM.

Landon James Canada, 73, of Varney, KY, passed away
Thursday October 2, 2014 at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born July 2, 1941 at Pike County, KY, to the late
Victor and Sulia Caines Canada. He was also preceded in death
by five brothers and four sisters.
He was a retired coal miner from Chisholm Coal in Phelps.
Ky, a member of the U.M.W.A. and a member of the Pilgrim
Home Old Regular Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife; Virginia Canada, children;
Michael (Sandy) Canada of Harold, KY, Chuck (Vicki) Canada
of Pikeville, KY, and Kimberly (Andrew) Walters of Varney, KY. sister; Mattie Costner of
Barboursville, WV, grandchildren; Brandi (Mark) Adkins, Kasey Canada, Jarrod (Lindsey)
Canada, Morgan Canada and Aaron McGuire, great grandchildren; Zoey Weaver, Matthew
Sellards, Ruby Adkins and Maggie Adkins and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Monday October 6, 2014 at Pilgrim Home Old
Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow at
Stewart Family Cemetery, Varney, KY with Jarrod Canada, Mark Adkins, Duane Smith, Joel
Maynard, Irvin Hale, John George Blackburn, Joey Stewart and James Gibson serving as
pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Saturday and Sunday night at the Pilgrim Home Old Regular
Baptist Church with special services both nights at 7 PM.

Joe B. Varney, 74, of Sidney, KY, passed away Friday, October 3,
2014, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born August 18, 1940, at Huddy, KY, to the late Joe B. and
Brooksy Bostic Varney. He is also preceded in death by his daughter;
Brooksy Bevins Fuller and brother; Leroy Varney.
He was owner and operator of Varney's Body Shop, a member of the
Little Stone Old Regular Baptist Church and a veteran of the U. S.
Army.
He is survived by his wife; Ernestene Weddington Varney, sons;
Phillip Dean (Sandra) Varney of Dix Fork, KY, and Joseph Christopher
(Jolana) Varney of Fl, daughter; Barbara (Joe) Pyles of Dix Fork, KY, brothers; William Bob
(Danetta) Varney of Huddy, KY, and Phillip (Nina) Varney of Huddy, KY, sister; Phyllis
(Bruce) Collins of Huddy, KY, eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of
loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow at Weddington
Family Cemetery, Sidney, KY, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Belfry Chapter
#141 D.A.V. will conduct graveside military rites.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Sunday, October 5 and Monday, October 6, 2014, at the funeral
home with special services both nights at 7 PM.

Norma Jean Dotson, age 80, has gained her heavenly wings. She passed away Saturday,
October 4, 2014, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.
She was born September 23, 1934, at Ransom, KY, to the late Dewey and Vicy Whitt Hager.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Dotson, as well as one son, Jason Todd
Dotson, granddaughter, Terri Honaker and brothers: Charlie Hager, Billy Ray Hager and Willie
Hager.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Samaria Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children: Betty Dotson of Ransom, KY, Ricky (Tina) Dotson of
Ransom, KY, Sammy (Pricey) Dotson of McCarr, KY, Don (Sherri) Dotson of Ransom, KY,
Jennifer (Moncie) Dotson of Phelps, KY, George (Pam) Dotson of Ransom, KY, Steven Dotson
of Ransom, KY, and Betty Jo (Fred) Bowling of Ransom, KY, sister, Glenna (Burl) Dotson of
Ransom, KY, brother, Stirl Hager of Ransom, KY, special friend, Tina and a host of
grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM, Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home with Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Dotson Cemetery, Ransom,
KY, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 PM, Tuesday, October 6, 2014, at the funeral home with special
services at 7 PM.

Eddie Gene Smith, 55, of Huddy, KY passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014, in the Pikeville
Medical Center.
He was born January 5, 1959, in Michigan the son of Darlene Smith Bostic of Huddy, KY.
Eddie was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed building furniture and homes. He worked on the
building of the Forest Trace Apartments where he was living. He also attended the Old
McVeigh Grade School, Belfry High School and later achieved his GED.
Other survivors include several aunts, uncles and a host of other family and friends by whom
he will be missed.
Memorial services will be held Noon, Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with David Parsley officiating. He will be interred in the Mountain View
Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM until Noon prior to services.

Jessaline Charles, 53, of Burnwell, Ky. passed away Monday, October 6, 2014, in the
Emergency Room of the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born July 20, 1961, in Louisville, Ky. the daughter of the late Charles Hobert and
Geraldine Huff Warner. She was also preceded in death by a brother.
She was a homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband Haven Boyd Charles of Burnwell, KY, daughter, Amanda
Lynn Charles of Louisville, KY, son, Joshua James Warner of Louisville, KY, sister, Lynette
Warner, grandchildren: Justice Higgs, Tyler Higgs and Dakota Goomey and several aunts and
uncles.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Noon in the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with Delbert McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the Charles Family
Cemetery, Burnwell, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 10 AM until the funeral services.

Hayden Odell Russell, the 4 year-old son, of Jerome and Jamie Lea Runyon Russell of
Williamson, WV passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014, at his home.
He was born February 22, 2010, at South Williamson, KY.
He was a joy to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hilary Jade Staggs; grandparents, Jerome and June
Russell, Vanessa Russell, Wilburn Runyon, George and Retha Runyon.
Other than his parents he is survived by brothers, Fred (Mikki) Russell of Naugatuck, WV,
Blaine (Sarah) Runyon and Jacob (Lexi) Staggs all of Williamson, WV; grandmother, Louise
Runyon of Williamson, WV; niece, Tailyn Russell, nephews: Shane Russell and Gunner Luke
Runyon and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 10, 2014, at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Sanger officiating.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014, from 6 - 9 PM in the Funeral Home
Chapel with special services at 7 PM.
