William L. Rodgers

LIBERTY -- Services for William L. Rodgers Sr., 96, formerly of Liberty, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bartle Funeral Home by the Rev. Bryce McCulley. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

He died Sunday at the Masonic Home of Shelbyville.

Born Nov. 21, 1903, in Teddy, he was a son of the late James W. and Mary L. Shaw Rodgers. He was a former automobile dealer and a member of Antioch Christian Church. He was the widower of Villa Jane Hendrickson Rodgers.

Survivors include three sons, J.Q. and Fred E. Rodgers, both of Liberty, and W.L. Rodgers of Lebanon, Ohio; four daughters, Iva Lee True of Liberty, Imo Jane Douglas of Kings Mountain, Georgeanna Robinson of Fayetteville, Tenn., and Johnnye June Powers of Fairfield, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary G. Rodgers, and an infant son.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Ed Simmons

HARRODSBURG -- Services for Ed Simmons, 48, of Harrodsburg will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Lewis Walter and Sam Stow. Burial will be in Snuffer Cemetery, London.

He died Monday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

Born Dec. 28, 1951, in Covington, he was a son of Mary E. Williams Simmons of Georgetown and the late Raymond L. Simmons. He was general manager of Arts Telcom in Frankfort and a member of Highlands Baptist Church. He was an Air Force veteran, having served in Vietnam, and a life member of National Riflemen's Association. He also was a member of the Mercer County Fish and Game Club and was a certified firearms instructor for 4-H.

Other survivors include his wife, Nancy E. Douthitt Simmons; a daughter, Stephanie L. Simmons of Harrodsburg; three brothers, David Simmons of Lexington, Randy Simmons of Miami, Fla., and Mark Simmons of Richmond; and a sister, Donna L. Lacy of Cannel City.

Pallbearers will be David, Randy, Mark and Michael Simmons, Joe and Matthew Douthitt, Chris and Bill Lacy.

Honorary pallbearers are William May and Paul Winandy.

Memorials may go to Clear Creek Baptist Bible College, 300 Clear Creek Road, Pineville 40972.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Margaret E.B. Burrus

HARRODSBURG -- Margaret Elizabeth Black Burrus, 81, of West Broadway, died Thursday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born July 4, 1918, in Louisville, she was a daughter of the late Mattie Settles Black Jones. She was the widow of William Thompson Burrus and a member of Centennial Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Robert Lee Black of Harrodsburg; five brothers, Riley Jones of Lexington, Walter and David Jones of Shelbyville, James Jones of Frankfort and Claude Jones of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Rose McFarland of Louis-ville and Evelena Shirley of Bagdad; and three grandchildren.

Services will be11 a.m. Monday at Centennial Baptist Church by the Rev. J.D. Short III. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Mayes, Billy Parks, Alvis Johnson, Stewart Shirley, Harrison Burrus, Melvin Ison and Willie "Jack Rabbit" Bottoms.

Parks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Haldon J. Sims

HARRODSBURG -- Haldon J. Sims, 75, of Rose Lane, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born April 26, 1924, he was a son of the late Frank Evan and Jeanetta Hellard Sims. He was a retired, self-employed truck driver and a member of Berea Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Ella S. Hale of Harrodsburg; three sisters, De Ette Darland, Louise Harlow and Bernice Matherly, all of Harrodsburg; a brother, Vernon Sims of Frankfort; a grandson and two step grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home by Kevin Patrick. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today and after 7 a.m. Monday.

Pallbearers will be Benny Matherly, Mike Matherly, Michael Hardin, Curtis Graham, Greg Hale and Dustin Hale.

Memorials may go to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.

Robert E. Bourne

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Robert Eugene Bourne, 62, of Harrogate, Tenn., died Feb. 24.

Born Sept. 25, 1937, in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Eugene Franklin and Lydia Mae Clark Bourne. He was a retired IBM executive, a member of Gap Creek Baptist Church and the Lions Club and a charter member of Dix River Country Club.

Survivors include a son, Robert Bourne of Danville; a sister, Datha Comley of Jacksonville, N.C.; and a granddaughter.

Services were held Feb. 26 at Reece Valley Chapel by the Rev. Ray Collett.

Reece Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edna H.L. Wilson

MAYFIELD -- Edna Helen Lanham Wilson, 67, of Mayfield, died Thursday at Good Samaritan Care Center in Metropolis, Ill.

Born Dec. 2, 1932, in Gravel Switch, she was a daughter of the late Clay Thornton and Margaret Florence Bandy Lanham. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Mayfield.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse F. Wilson; a daughter, Claydean Wilson McCallon of Kirksey; a sister, Kathryn Roller of Danville; and two grandchildren.

Service are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Byrn Funeral Home by Robert Johnson, Jerry Lanham and Kendrick Lewis. Burial is in Highland Park Cemetery.

Memorials may go to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2615, Paducah, KY 42002; or to favorite charity.

Elizabeth M. Dorsey

Services for Elizabeth Merriman Dorsey, 81, of Lincoln County, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev. Billy Brown. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

She died Thursday at Stanford House Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 17, 1919, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Jerry and Sarah Hulett Merriman. She was a retired office manager for Aronico Steel Corporation, Middletown, Ohio, and a retired apartment manager in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was the widow of John C. Dorsey. She was a member of the Christian Church of Middletown, Ohio.

Survivors inlcude a brother, James Merriman of Middletown, Ohio; a sister, Katherine Logue of Danville and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be James Teague, Charlie Teague, Joshua Wilcher, Gerald Merriman, Tom Wing and Ernie Henderson.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Bacon A. Moore and the staff of Stanford House Nursing Home.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. today.

Skippy Creech

Billy Glenn "Skippy" Creech, 45, of Bellevue Street, Junction City, died Tuesday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center of natural causes.

Born Feb. 21, 1955, in Lexington, he was a son of the late Glenn and Martha Ray Dinwiddie Creech. He was a former employee of ATR Wire and Cable Co. and a member of Junction City Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Hester Bryant Creech; three stepsons, Tommy Bugg of Junction City, Walter Croushorn of Stanford and Teddy Croushorn of Danville; four step grandchildren; and a step great-grandchild.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Clifford Neat. Burial will be in Junction City Cemetery.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

Emma H. Perry

Emma Durham Hill Perry, 90, of Danville died Tuesday at Charleston Health Care Center.

Born Jan. 23, 1910, in Jefferson County, she was a daughter of the late Isaiah and Henrietta Moore Hill. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and its Noah Club. She was the widow of Oscar Perry.

Survivors include two sons, James L. "Bo" Perry of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Charlie Perry of Danville; six daughters, Emogene Spears of Shepherdsville, Mary Brandenburg of Las Vegas, Nev., Shirley Brooks of Fort Worth, Texas, and Alice Miller, Judy Ross and Nancy Vanover, all of Danville; a granddaughter whom she raised, Diana Coffey of Lexington; 23 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

She preceded in death by four stepchildren, Robert Perry, John Perry, Bill Perry and Ruth Adams.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Gethsemane Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Payton. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home. Memorials may go to Gideons International.

Albert Pike

HEMET, Calif. -- Albert Pike, 72, of Homeland, Calif., formerly of Boyle and Casey counties, died Tuesday at Veterans Affairs Hospital in Loma Linda, Calif.

Born June 24, 1928, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Clarence and Mazie Vest Pike. He was the husband of Jane Lutes Pike, formerly of Mitchellsburg.

He was a mechanic and was retired from Kaiser Steel Corp. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors are five sons, Larry Pike of Fairfield, Ohio, Dale Pike of San Diego, Calif., and David, Wayne and Dan Pike, all of California; two daughters, Rebecca Rathborn and Robin Phillips, both of California; four sisters, Stella Pelley of Mitchellsburg, Florence Gullett of Harrodsburg, Opal Young of West Chester, Ohio, and June Randolph of Milford, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Pike.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Riverside (Calif.) National Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Miller Jones Funeral Home, 1501 W. Florida Ave., Hemet, Calif.
