Kathryn (Hunt) Helm, 94, of Forest Hills, KY, joined Jesus and her
loved ones Thursday, May 21, 2015, following a brief illness.
She was born January 30, 1921, at Stone, KY, the daughter of the late
James Calvin and Cuzzie (Marcum) Hunt. She was also preceded in death
by her husband of sixty-two years, George M. Helm; four brothers and
five sisters.
She was a lifelong member of the McAndrews Wesleyan Church and a
loving wife, mother and sister.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Caryn Helms of Forest Hills,
KY; a double niece, Rheta H. Mills of Inez, KY; three brothers, Thomas
(Peggy) Hunt of Sevierville, TN, Gary (Faye) Hunt of Wasbash, IN and Donald (Tess) Hunt of
Wasbash, IN; several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Ferree officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery, Sidney,
KY, beside her beloved husband.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 22, 2015, from 5 - 9 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel.
Ruth Cole Smith, of Ransom, KY, passed away Saturday, May 23,
2015, at the Pikeville Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Ruth was born at Hazard, KY, the daughter of the late James and
Pearlie Wells Cole. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Loraine Cole, Ruby Osborne, Thelma Morris and Launa Sutton Cole and
four brothers, Junior Cole, William "Bill" Cole, Elmer Cole and J. B.
Cole.
Ruth was a graduate of Hazard High School, Lee's Junior College at
Jackson, KY and Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, KY. She
taught six years at Leatherwood Elementary School in Hazard and worked
thirty -one years as a teacher and librarian for the Pike County Board of Education at Blackberry and Runyon Elementary Schools. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, Belfry Homemaker's Club, Williamson Women's Club, EKEA, KEA and National Retired Teachers Association. Ruth loved her church and was a member of the Bluesprings
Freewill Baptist Church.
More than anything Ruth was a devoted Mother and Nana, who shared an extremely close
relationship with her daughter, Launa and grandson, Cole.
Survivors include her husband, Francis J. Smith, whom she would have been married
to for
53 years on May 31, 2015; daughter, Frances Launa Smith Stanley and her husband, Carl of
Forest Hills, KY; grandson, Ethan Cole Stanley of Forest Hills, KY; special second daughter,
Teresa Sutton Thacker and her husband, David of Island Creek, KY; special granddaughters,
Megan and Madison Thacker and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with Larry Hubbard and other ministers of the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist
Church officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Huddy, KY. Pallbearers will be Zach Staton, Brandon Staton, Rodney Stanley, Harold Ray
Osborne, Austin Stanley, Steven Baltes and Craig Dotson. Honorary pallbearers are Ethan Cole
Stanley, David Thacker, Johnny Hall and Larry Stanley.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Monday and Tuesday at the Funeral Home with special
services both nights at 7 PM. First Presbyterian Church of Williamson will sing Monday night
before services.
Rhonda Lynette Maynard, 52, of Forest Hills, KY, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015.
She was born August 25, 1962, at South Williamson, KY, the daughter of Ruth Workman of
Forest Hills, KY, and the late Herbert Workman.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Toler Freewill Baptist Church.
Other survivors include her fiancée, Darrell Keathley of Turkey Creek, KY, several cousins
and other family and friends.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 28, 2015, at noon with Donnie Williamson
officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, WV with family
and friends serving as pallbearers.
Maria Rebecca "Becky" Elkins, 59, of Lexington, KY, formerly of
Toler, KY, died Friday, May 22, 2015, at the University of Kentucky
Medical Center.
She was born October 12, 1955, in Silay City, Philippines, the
daughter of Ricardo and Nadja Cuaycong of Las Vegas, NE.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Quinton Elkins.
Becky was raised in Butler, New Jersey, and then moved to Toler,
KY, where she raised her family. She then relocated to Nicholasville,
KY, where she worked for UK Healthcare. She was a graduate of Belfry
High School and Marshall University. She taught at the University of
Kentucky and was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Nicholasville. She loved spending time with her family, crafting and was an avid UK basketball fan.
Other survivors include her son, Chris, (Lauren) Elkins of Versailles, KY; daughters, Jeanna
(Josh) Hatfield of Toler, KY, and Whitney Elkins of Lexington, KY; her siblings, Mary Jean
Cuaycong, Josephine (Scott) Duncan, Rick Cuaycong and Robert (Maria) Cuaycong; her six
grandchildren, Jordan, Kylie and Elliot Elkins, Quinton, Ryan and J. J. Hatfield and another
grandchild on the way. Other survivors include her former husband, Kirby Elkins of Toler, KY;
her mother-in-law, Ruby Jean Hill of Toler, KY, and a host of other family and friends.
Her gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 - 8 PM Saturday, May 30, 2015, at
R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky.
Eddie Dean Church Sr., 54, of Ransom, KY, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015, at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.
Eddie was born June 13, 1960, the son of the late Chester and Mary Stanley Church. He was
also preceded in death by his sisters, Debbie Church, Becky Church, Yvonne Church and Betty
Church.
Eddie worked as an iron worker in a steel mill for most of his life, belonging to the Local #1
Union of Chicago, IL. He was also a member of the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church of
Ransom, KY
Eddie is survived by his children, Eddie Dean Church Jr. of Carrollton, KY and Catrina
Church of Cloveport, KY. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Dalton Nottingham,
Heavynne Church, Christine Church, Emma Church, Haylee McCoy and Wyatt McCoy. Eddie
is also survived by his stepmother, Ada Church of Ransom, KY, and a brother, Bobby Church
also of Ransom, KY.
Services will be held Monday, June 1, 2015, beginning at 12 PM at the R.E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel, Belfry, KY with Larry Hubbard and other members of the Bluesprings Freewill
Baptist Church officiating, Burial will follow at the Alley Cemetery, Ransom, KY with friends
and family serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 10am-12pm on Monday, June 1, 2015, before the funeral service.
Randy L. Ratliff, 55, of Belfry, KY passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015, at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital Emergency Room.
Randy was born June 16, 1959, the son of the late Charles and Bonnie Callahan Ratliff.
Randy worked as a machinist for Tramco and was a graduate of Williamson High School.
Randy is survived by his two sons, Chris Ratliff of Remington, IN. and James Ratliff of
Terre Haute, IN. as well as his two brothers, Michael Ratliff of Kingsport, TN and Chuck (Nancy) Ratliff of Belfry, KY. He also leaves behind his two grandchildren, Dominick and Penelope
Ratliff and a special nephew, Chuckie (Jasmin) Ratliff of Belfry, KY., along with a host of other loving family and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 1, 2015, from 6PM-9PM at the R.E Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel in Belfry, KY.
Jackie Keith Francis II, 28, of McAndrews, KY, passed away Tuesday morning, June 2, 2015, at his home after a lingering illness.
He was born March 27, 1987, at South Williamson, KY, the son of Jackie
Keith and JoAnn Dingess Francis of McAndrews, KY.
Other survivors include his sister, Amanda Francis of McAndrews, KY;
grandparents, Curtis and Sarah Dingess of Goodman, WV; his fiancée, Stephanie Suter and a host of other loving family and friends.
Jackie’s life will be celebrated July 18, 2015, 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Grant’s
Branch.
Samuel Walter Randolph, 56, of Belfry, KY, died June 2nd, 2015, at the
VA Hospital in Huntington, WV.
He was born September 15th, 1958, in Columbus, OH to James Auvol
Randolph and Annie Irene Dibble Randolph.
Samuel was a US Navy veteran, having served 6 years for his country.
He was a 1976 graduate of Williamson High School before graduating from
Marshall University with a Business Degree. He was an engineer for the
Norfolk and Southern Railroad from 1987 to 2015. Samuel was a Christian
and an active member of the Turkey Creek Free Will Baptist Church. In his
spare time, he enjoyed researching family genealogy and spending time with
his loved ones.
Samuel was preceded in death by his father, James Auvol Randolph; mother, Annie Irene
Dibble Randolph; his beloved sisters, Maude Marie Randolph and June Gail Randolph Browning.
Samuel is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Evelyn Bevins Randolph; children: Jessica Ann Randolph of Williamson, WV and Samantha Dawn Randolph (Teddy) Poore of Lexington, KY; two grandsons, Elijah Thomas White and one due in August; his brother James Clinton Randolph of Turkey Creek, KY and sister Irene (Mike) Cochran of Belfry, KY. Samuel is
also survived by the mother of his children, Nancy Ann Curry of Parkers Lake, KY.
Sam loved the Lord with all his heart, soul and mind and his greatest desire was to reflect
Christ's love to his family and friends.
Visitation will begin at 6 pm with services at 7 pm Thursday June 4th
, at RE Rogers Funeral
Home at Belfry, KY.
Funeral services will be conducted at Turkey Creek Free Will Baptist Church, Friday, June
5th, at 1 pm with Mikey Smith and Timothy Yates officiating. Burial will follow at the Stepp
Cemetery, Sidney KY, with Belfry Chapter #141 Disabled American Veterans conducting Military Services. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.
