Velma "Jene" Runyon, 81, of Pinsonfork, KY, passed away Friday
March 25, 2016 at her residence.
Jene was born October 22, 1934 at Pennington Gap, VA, to the late
John E. Dotson Sr., and Vella M. Thompson Dotson. Jene is also preceded in death by her brother, John E. Dotson Jr.
Jene was a homemaker and a member of the Pinsonfork Church of God.
Jene is survived by her husband, Charles D. Runyon, two daughters,
Charlotte (Jeffery) Krause of St. Clair Shores, MI, and Janet (Ted)
Havrilla of Pinsonfork, KY. One son, Milton Price of Warren, MI.
Brothers, Eugene (Poppy) Dotson of Livonia, MI, and Bobby (Marilyn) Dotson of Warren, MI,
and one sister, Rema Stemas of MI. Grandchildren, Jene (Derek) Elwart, Louisa (Jon) Marine,
Daniel (Erika) Bush, Charles Krause, David (Julia) Price, Shannon (Steve) Sparrow and Janet
(Kenny) Gullion. Great Grandchildren, Rhylan Elwart, Isla Bush, Chloe Bush, Jonathan Price,
Russell Hamilton, Jarod Hamilton, David Gullion, Amanda Darga, Katie Breton and Nate Breton.
Great-Great Grandchildren, Liam Finnigan, Atom Breton and Camden Price and a host of
loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM, Monday, March 28, 2016, at the Pinsonfork
Church of God with Todd Claypool officiating. Burial will follow at Don Runyon Cemetery,
Pinsonfork, KY with Daniel Bush, Charles Krause, Jon Marine, Jeffery Krause, Ted Havrilla,
Derek Elwart and David Price serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Sunday night at the Pinsonfork Church of God.
India Belle Honaker Bevins (Inky), 99, of Pikeville, KY passed away
on March 28, 2016. She had resided at Cedar Creek Assisted Living for
the past 8 years.
She was born May 8, 1916 in Honaker, VA. She was the daughter of
the late Henry and Priscilla Hess Honaker. In addition to her parents, India was preceded in death by her husband, E.M. Bevins, her son, Jack
Bevins, and 3 sisters.
India is survived by a daughter-in-law, Pat Bevins; two granddaughters,
Jenifer Bevins McCoy (Mike McCoy) of Pikeville, KY; Jan Bevins Childers (Steve Childers) of Norton, VA; a grandson, Chris Bevins (Lisa
Bevins) of Jacksonville, NC; 3 great granddaughters, Erin Austin, Meredith Metzger, and
Maura McCoy, a great grandson Nicholas Childers, and a great-great grandson, Jackson Austin.
India was the oldest surviving member of the Salem Regular Baptist Church, which was
founded by her father-in-law, Jonah Bevins.
India lived in South Williamson, KY for over 50 years where she was a homemaker, seamstress, and also worked for a period of time with her son, Jack, who owned and operated Bevins'
Market and Deli. For the past 22 years India had resided in Pikeville, KY where she enjoyed
taking care of her own lawn and tending to her flowers and vegetable garden. She could regularly be seen taking her daily walk thru her neighborhood and for the past 8 years at Cedar
Creek Assisted Living where she continued to be very active and walk the hallways and
grounds daily.
God has blessed her with good health and longevity for the past 99 years and now she has
been rewarded with eternal peace, joy, comfort in His presence.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 31, 2016 beginning at 2 PM at R.E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Danny Runyon and Brother Morgan Chapman officiating.
Burial will follow at the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, KY with Chris Bevins,
Mike McCoy, Steve Childers, Nicholas Childers, Brad Austin, and Kevin Metzger serving as
pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM Thursday at the funeral home, prior to the funeral service.
Diana Sue Justice, 61, of Williamson, WV passed away Saturday, March
26, 2016, at the home of her daughter, Lisa in Lexington, KY.
She was born December 20, 1954, in Williamson, WV the daughter of the
late Mose Justice Jr. and Lucy Mae Clevenger Justice. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Jennings Olen Gannon and Ballard Justice.
Diana worked in the home health field.
Survivors include her children, Paul Preece Jr. of Varney, KY, Lisa Ann
Anderson of Lexington, KY, Ashley Potter of Kimper, KY, Samuel Stephen
Gannon of Williamson, WV, Carmelitta Diana Ward of Williamson, WV,
Nolecca Maria Gannon of Lexington, KY and Jenny Lynn Gannon of Richmond, KY; step daughters, Heather Murray of Louisville, KY and Peggy May of Williamson,
WV; brothers, James Edward Justice of Williamson, WV, Willard Justice of Williamson, WV,
William Andrew Justice of Matewan, WV and Mose Justice III of Ohio; sisters, Angela Morris
of Matewan, WV and Lucinda Justice of South Williamson, KY; twenty two grandchildren and
a host of other family and friends.
There will be a remembrance of her life from 4 - 9 PM on Friday, April 1, 2016, at R. E.
Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, KY.

Ethel Grace Smith, 82, of Sidney, KY, passed away Tuesday March 29, 2016, at her residence.
Ethel was born March 26, 1934, at Turkey Creek, KY, to the late Henry Thomas Varney and
Quinnie Runyon Varney. Ethel is also preceded in death by her sisters, Sally Johnson, Edna
Marie Kitchen, Hattie Varney, Hazel Varney, and Rita Ann Carpenter and her brothers, Bobby
Gene Varney, Ballard Varney and Billy Varney.
Ethel was a homemaker and she was a baptist.
Ethel is survived by her husband of 60 years, Alvery Smith; one daughter, Pam (Barry) Hunt
of Sidney, KY, and one son, Alvery Craig (Marianne) Smith of Dry Ridge, KY. She is also survived by one sister, Peggy Dean (Miles) Skeens of Pikeville, KY; three grandchildren, Stuart
Craig Smith, Lydia Marie Smith, Bethany Anna-Grace Hunt and a host of nieces, nephews,
family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel with Richard Staton and Lacy Walters officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith
Cemetery, Sidney, KY. Pallbearers will be Marion Gilliam, Stuart Smith, Bobby Darrell Varney, Pud Varney, John George Smith and Andre Blackburn. Honorary pallbearers are Fonso
Bogar, Kevin Skeens, Neil Roberts and Greg Curry.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 1, 2016, from 6 - 9 PM in the funeral home chapel with
special fellowship services at 7 PM with Tommy Reed and Shawn Ward.
Samuel "Sammy" Dewey Thacker, 68 of Belfry, KY passed away Wednesday, March 30,
2016, at his home.
Sammy was born November 21, 1947 at Stone, KY the son of the late Phillip Dewey and
Jennie Mae Dutton Thacker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Linda Thacker and his
sisters, Wanda Gail, Evelyn Joyce and Doris Faye.
He is survived by his children, Samuel David (Sheila) Thacker of Phenix City, Alabama and
Elizabeth Arole of Walton, KY. He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Samuel David Thacker II, Lorna Thacker, Evan Arole, Akshay Arole and Tej Arole. Also surviving are his siblings;
Phillip Thacker of South Carolina, Lee Thacker and Gary Thacker of Turkey Creek, KY, Donald (Tammy) Thacker, Norma Owens and Carol Ann Greer of Belfry, KY, Danny Joe Thacker,
Betty Lou Jones of Tennessee, and Debbie Crigger of Vast, KY along with a host of other loving family and friends.
Services will be held on April 1, 2016 beginning at 6 PM until 9 PM at R.E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel.
He will be buried at Pacific Cemetery, Belfry, KY at a later date.
Boots Carden, 89, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016, at an
Alzheimer care center in Lexington, Kentucky.
Boots was the youngest and last surviving of thirteen children, born
July 1, 1926, to the late James and Pearl West in Big Sandy, West
Virginia. She grew up in Hardy, Kentucky, where she met and married
Harry Carden. During their sixty-year marriage, they lived in Belfry
and Toler, Kentucky.
Preceding her in death were her parents, four sisters, eight brothers,
her son, Rennie Edward (Eddie), and her husband, Harry.
Survivors are her daughter Tammy and her grandson Bill (Lexington, KY.)
Boots enjoyed being a wife, loving mother and mommaw. She enjoyed cooking, especially
making sweets with her grandson, sewing and quilting. Boots loved her Belfry United Methodist Church, where she was a chartered member for seventy-three years. While she was healthy
and capable she was church treasurer for over 30 years, sang alto in the choir, was president and
member of United Methodist Women, taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School, and she and
Harry cleaned the church for years. They considered it "working for the Lord." She now is
singing HIS praises all the day long. With the Alzheimer’s, she may have been absent from her
body but always present with the LORD.
Funeral Service led by Pastor Mike Stanley will be at Belfry United Methodist Church,
Monday beginning at 1:30 pm. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Huddy,
KY with Bill Ellis, Garrett Carden, Bennie Curry, Billy Ferguson serving as pallbearers. Leo
Carden, Keith Carden will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be Sunday, 6-8pm at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home.

Margaret Ann "Annie" Dotson, 71 of Bristol, TN formerly of Ransom,
KY, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born November 27, 1944, at Ransom, KY, the daughter of the
late Ver and Nellie Whitt of Ransom, KY.
Annie was married
to the love of her life for 54 years the late Wendell
Wilkie Dotson. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Larry
Whitt and father and mother-in-law, Dennis and Mag Dotson. Annie was
a loving Mother, Grandmother and Wife and will be missed dearly by her
family and loved ones.
She was known best for her fried chicken, homemade gingerbread and
she loved playing bingo. She was a former cook for the Pike County Board of Education and of
the Baptist Faith.
Left to mourn her loss are her children, Teresa (Michael) New of Ransom, KY, Denise
"Bernie" Dotson of Bristol, TN and Duane "Unch" Dotson of Ransom, KY; grandchildren, John
(Michelle) Dotson of Bluff City, TN and Kendra "Baby Durl" Dotson of Bristol, TN; sister, Elva Jean (Tommy) Hatfield of Ransom, KY; brothers, Charles "Bucky" (Linda Lou) Whitt of
Ransom, KY and Elmer Ray (Christine) Whitt of Hardy, KY; sister-in-law, Glenna "Pig" Whitt
of of Ransom, KY; special neighbor, Ruby Asbury of Bristol, TN and a host of other loving
family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 10, 2016, at 11 AM at Samaria Primitive Baptist
Church with Shawn Dotson, Jeff Dotson, Larry Slone and others officiating. Burial will follow
in the Willie Jake Hager Cemetery, Ransom, KY with Greg "Tug" Whitt, Brian Whitt, Dale
Whitt, Chris Whitt, Keith Whitt and David Hatfield serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Friday and Saturday at Samaria Primitive Baptist Church
with special services Saturday night at 7 PM.
