Ethel Kennedy Smith, 82, of McVeigh, KY passed away Tuesday morning, May 3, 2011 at the home of her sister.
She was born December 19, 1928 at McAndrews, Ky. the daughter of the late Dock Burgess and Gusta Collins Kennedy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James W. Smith who died April 28, 2011 and by her son, Michael W. Smith.
Ethel was a homemaker and a member of the McAndrews Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Ann Smith of McVeigh, Ky.; brother, Oscar Kennedy of Pinsonfork, Ky.; sister, JoAnn Horn of McVeigh, Ky. and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 6, 2011 at 1 PM at the McAndrews Church of Christ with David Parsley officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with Ron Hepler, Ronnie Lester, Randy Howell, James Howell, Larry Cains, Anthony Preston, Jason Smith and Gary Scott serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Wednesday and Thursday at the McAndrews Church of Christ with special services Wednesday night at 7 PM with Joe Cochran officiating and 7 PM Thursday with Dennis Wolford officiating.
Charla Paulette Blair, 53, of Huddy, KY, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Varney, West Virginia.
She was born August 9, 1957 at Logan, WV the daughter of the late Carson and Leta Blair. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Carson Jones of Huddy, Ky.; daughter, Laura Muncy of Huddy, Ky.; two sisters, Janet Sasser of Nashville, NC, Virginia Cadle of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren, Gabrielle Muncy and Christopher Jones and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 9, 2011 at 2 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Donnie Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the Estep Family Cemetery, Trace Creek, Ky. Visitation will be held from 10 AM till 2 PM Monday at the Funeral Home.
Carrie Lynn Charles, 33 of Belfry, KY passed away Friday, May 6, 2011 at her home.
She was born February 26, 1978 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of Penny Lynn Charles Mullins of Rogersville, Tn. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ruby and Smokey Charles and an uncle, Ricky Charles.
She was a homemaker and had attended the Belfry Apostolic Church.
Besides her Mother she is survived by her step father, William Mullins of Rogersville, Tn.; son, Austin Heath Tussey; daughter, Lila Lynn Copley; brother, Gerald Brent Charles of Rogersville, Tn.; sister, Brittany Nicole Charles of Rogersville, Tn.; aunt, Joyce Adkins of Rogersville, Tn. and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roger Egnor officiating. Phyllis Jean Smith, 80, of Canada, KY passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at her home.
She was born April 10, 1931 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of the late Irving Thacker and Goldie Smith Thacker Williamson. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by one sister, Christine Perry.
She worked for eighteen years at L.B. Atkins Jewelry in Williamson, WV and five years at Taylor's Jewelry at the Southside Mall before opening her own business, Phyllis & Emily's Jewelry, Floral & Gift Boutique in 1986. She retired after ten years of business in 1996. She was a member of Stone Lodge #533 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, John J. Smith of Canada, Ky.; one son, John Edward (Ann) Smith of Cynthiana, Ky.; one daughter, Patty (Bruce) Moon of Canada, Ky.; two special granddaughters, Jessica (Josh) Martin of Forest Hills, Ky. and Amanda Moon of Canada, Ky.; one grandson, Joseph (Heather) Smith of Cynthiana, Ky.; three great grandchildren, Avery Joseph Smith, Nevada Carlisle and Ava Carlisle of Cynthiana, Ky.; one brother, Dennis Thacker of Covington, Ky.; four sisters, Jacqueline Jude of Melbourne, Fl., Brenda (Max) Newberry of Norman, Ok, Janet (Jim) Trout of Pikeville, Ky. and Betty Gallimore of Canada, Ky.; caregiver of eight years, Francis Morris and her special friend, Emily Krasse.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Elders Lacy Walters and Hobert Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery, Sidney, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Thursday and Friday at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with special services both nights at 7 PM.
Gary Douglas Hatfield, 63, of Stone, KY, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at his residence.
He was born July 31, 1947 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Orison and Garnette Hall Hatfield.
He was a retired employee of the railroad and a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Hensley Hatfield of Stone, Ky.; three sons, Gary Douglas (Angie) Hatfield Jr. of Hardy, KY, Jon Mark Hatfield of Stone, Ky. and Tim (Barb) Lovern of Canada, Ky.; sisters, Sharion Marks of Highland Park, Indiana and Judy Rawdon of Georgetown, Ky.; one brother, Ronnie Varney of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Molly, Katie and Mindy Hatfield, Kimberly Nicole and Jon Derek Hatfield, Timmy and Amanda Lovern and one great grandchild, Isiah Stanley.
There will not be any visitation or funeral service at this time.
Jack Jarrell, 80 of LaFollette, TN formerly of Mingo and Wayne County, WV passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 in St. Mary's Hospital, LaFollette, Tn.
He was born October 13, 1931 in Rameytown, WV the son of the late Albert and Dollie Canterbury Jarrell. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Troy Jarrell, Frank Jarrell, Roy "Buck" Jarrell, Albert "Abby" Jarrell, Kirby Canterbury and Delbert Canterbury and three sisters, Hazel Hardin, Ruth Montgomery and Emogene Columbia.
Jack was a disabled coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America for 30 years. He was a faithful member of the Kermit Masonic Lodge #167 F. & A.M. for 50 years, a member of the Worshipful Grand Lodge of the State of West Virginia and of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley Ann Urban Jarrell of LaFollette, Tn.; one loving daughter, Patricia "Patty" (Michael) Runyon of LaFollette, Tn.; a grandson, Stephen (April) Runyon of LaFollette, Tn.; two great granddaughters, Caitlin and Cambry Runyon; brother-in-laws: Danny (Hattie) Urban of Columbus, Ohio and Peanut Urban of Beauty, Ky.; sister-in-laws, Ione "Cissy" Urban of Shantilly, Va. who was so very special to him and Julia Hundley of Lenore, WV and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends whom he held dear to his heart.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, May 19, 2011 in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Maynard from Belo, WV officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, WV with Kermit Lodge # 167 F. & A. M. having Masonic graveside services and serving as pallbearers. Ralph Edwin Spinks, 71, of Forest Hills, KY, passed away Monday May, 16, 2011 at his residence.
He was born May 19, 1939 at Vago, W.V., to the late Billy Clifford and Gladys Edna Dotson Spinks. He is also preceded in death by one son; Ralph Edwin Spinks II, and one brother; Vernon Spinks.
He was a retired road construction foreman and a Christian.
He is survived by his wife; Margaret Spinks, two sons; Dennis Wayne Spinks and Daniel Clifford Spinks, three daughters; JanDoreen Spinks Williamson, Kathryn Ann Spinks Grizzell and Jennifer Spinks Billiter; two sisters, Geraldine "Gerri" Ingram and Anna May Paxton; nine grandchildren; Philip Williamson, Lisa Williamson, Kasey Grizzell, Matthew Spinks, Chase Spinks, Samuel Spinks, Kaylee Robinson, James Dalton Billiter and Jesse Billiter and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday May 19, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Jerry McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky. Tressie Lovell Phillips, 95, of Williamson, WV, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Trinity Healthcare.
She was born June 29, 1915 at Freeburn, Ky. the daughter of the late Alexander Cameron and Dixie Smith Lovell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Med Phillips; seven brothers, Hubert, Howard, Norris, Chester, Clifford, Riland and Estil "Woody" Lovell and three sisters, Eugenia Charles, Irene Harmon and Blanche Hopkins Hatfield.
Tressie was a homemaker and of the Pilgrim Holiness faith.
Her survivors include two sons, Grover "Curt" Phillips of Williamson, WV and Carl Edmond (Joann) Phillips of Jacksonville, Fl.; one sister, Mrs. Harry (Susie) Brown of Norfolk, Va.; five grandchildren, Lora (Parish) Thompson of Charleston, WV, Lisa and Bobby Phillips of Williamson, WV., Carl E. (Shari) Phillips of Jacksonville, Fl. and Cheri (David) Barkley of Tabor City, NC; three great grandchildren, Lauren Phillips Sperry of Huntington, WV, Carlye G. and Daniel Edmond Phillips of Jacksonville, Fl.; one great great grandson, Gunner Nash Sperry of Huntington, WV.; a special niece, Vivian (Lawrence) Stacy of Toler, Ky. and several other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
