Alta May
Alta Goff May, 91, of Raccoon, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was a dedicated homemaker and her home was always open to others. She was a loving and very caring mother. She was of the Baptist faith and loved the Lord.
She was born in Pike County, Oct. 5, 1919, the daughter of the late Ellison and Rebecca Slone Goff.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Virgil May; three sons, Charles Dean May, Roger May and Randall May; two brothers, Cecil Goff and Curtis (Hoover) Goff; four sisters, Bertha Kendrick, Oma Justice, Zettie Kendrick and Fern Goff; and one grandson, Kris Luster.
Left to mourn her passing are six sons, Ronnie and his wife Blanche May of Raccoon, Cecil Radus and his wife Evelyn May, Tony May of Raccoon, Richard and his wife May of Raccoon, Greg and his wife Menette May of Pikeville and Tim May of Raccoon; three daughters, Patsy May of Raccoon, Lana and her husband Lloyd Luster of Raccoon and Freida May of Raccoon; nine grandchildren, Rhonda Trimbath and her husband Charles, Vicki May, Ricky Wayne May and his wife Donna, Robby May and his wife Teresa, Patrick May and his wife Kristen, Shane May and his wife Jessica, Eric Luster and his wife Carolina Fare, Kristin Potter and her husband Paul, and Colby May; five stepgrandchildren, Mindy Neece and her husband Stanton, Amanda Spears and her husband Kevin, Billy Childers and his wife Lisa, Lisa Deboard and her husband Mike, and Kenneth Childers and his wife Allison; nine great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She also left two close friends, Mazy Fields and Frona Justice and also a host of friends and relatives.
Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Ricky Wayne May, Robby May, Patrick May, Shane May, Eric Luster, Chris Hall, Colby May, Billy Childers and Kenneth Childers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug., 31, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Meta Baptist ministers, Bill Staggs and Rogers Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
James Ratliff
James “Buck” Ratliff, 65, of Elkhorn City, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at Elizabeth Dolin Jones Hospice Center, Huntington, W.Va.
He was born in Pike County, Jan. 20, 1946, the son of the late Tilden Ratliff and Lorene Nixon Ratliff.
He was a coal miner and a member of the Little Beaver Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Marlene Salyer Ratliff; two daughters, Dawn Stewart of Harrogate, Tenn., and Jaime Carothers of Elkhorn City; three brothers, Ronald Dean Ratliff of Elkhorn City, Michael Ratliff and Jerry Ratliff, both of Paintsville; five sisters, Geneva Cantrell, Betty Jo Toney, Sharon Kay Bartley and Terri Elswick, all of Elkhorn City, Mary Lou Hawkins of Shelby, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Ed Belcher, Ronald Ratliff and Daniel Ratliff officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Shelbiana. Arrangements were under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
James Roberts
James Kevin Roberts, 45, of Lexington, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, in Lexington.
He was born in Atlanta, Ga., Dec. 25, 1965, the son of Dr. E. D. Roberts of Pikeville and Shirley McQueen of Lexington.
He was greenskeeper at Idle Hour Country Club.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Steven Howard Roberts.
Besides his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Diana Roberts of Lexington; two brothers, Elster Dean Roberts Jr. of Lexington and Jonathan Christopher Roberts of Atlanta; his uncle, Danny McQueen of Lexington; and two nieces, Laura Ann Roberts and Elizabeth Roberts.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Newsome Cemetery, Pikeville. Arrangements were under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Allene Stacy
Allene Stacy, 89, of Hardy, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011.

Arnold Stewart
Arnold Ray Stewart, 81, of Hwy 611, Pikeville, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at his home.
He was born Jan. 16, 1930, the son of the late Isaac and Velva Jane Little Stewart.
He was a retired diesel mechanic formerly employed by General Motors, a U.S. Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Freddie Ray Stewart; two brothers; and one sister.
He is survived by two sons, Danny Lee Ramsey and Joey Isaac Stewart; one daughter, Donna Howell; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the R.H. Ratliff Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Jennifer Stump
Jennifer Lynn Stump, 50, of Kimper, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pikeville, Aug. 29, 1960, the daughter of the late Donald D. Hall and Wanda Alley Hall.
She was an insurance manager and vice president of Wells Fargo and attended Pikeville Freewill Baptist church.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Stump; one daughter, Megan Elizabeth Stump of Kimper; two sisters, Helena Syck (David) of Burning Fork Road and Brenda Ann Pinson of Brushy Road; one niece, Courtney Keene; one great-nephew, Jordan Bentley Keene; one great-niece, Layla Grace England; and one special friend and fellow worker of Wells Fargo, Mathew McCoy.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Morgan Chapman, Don Lee and Jim Patton officiating. Burial followed in the Justice Cemetery, Kimper. Arrangements were under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Keith Brick
Keith L. Brick, 82, of Belo, W.Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at the Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, W.Va.
He was born in Charleston, W.Va., Oct. 1, 1928, the son of the late Howard and Anna Null Brick.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Estepp.
He was a former construction worker.
He is survived by five daughters, Karen Harmon of Chester, Va., Pamela Brick of Bristow, Va., Melody Skeen of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Robin Smith of Oviedo, Fla., Dawn Brick of Edmond, Okla.; one stepson, Tommy Von Driska of Grove City, Ohio; four grandchildren, one stepgranddaughter, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, in the Hatfield Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation and brief committal service will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Cross Lanes, W.Va. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.

Roy Bryant
Roy H. Bryant, 69, of Shelbiana, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Clintwood, Va., July 27, 1942, the son of the late Willie Bryant and Goldie Bowling Bryant.
He was a auctioneer.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Troy Jack Bryant.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Phyllis Bryant of New Carlisle, Ohio; eight sons, Roy Gene Bryant and Randall Bryant, both of Pikeville, Ricky Bryant of New Carlisle, Darrel Keene and Richard Keene, both of Dry Fork, Roger Keene, Randle Keene and Glen Keene, all of Greasy Creek; seven daughters, Robin Bryant of New Carlisle, Terry Combs of Wise, Va., Tabitha Logan of Whitesburg, Charity Johnson of Fleming Neon, Denise Henry, Rhonda Keene and Michelle Keene, all of Greasy Creek; one sister, Billie Jean Mullins of Clintwood; 46 grandchildren, and 41 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in the Greasy Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Jimmy Jack Adkins and Larry Tackett officiating. Burial will follow in the Clintwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday at the church with services at 7 p.m.
Halligene Cansler
Halligene Whisman Cansler, 81, of Pikeville, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
She was born in Pike County, Sept. 4, 1930, the daughter of the late Hiram Whisman and Arzetta Steffey Whisman.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Coal Run Church of Christ.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jean Cansler; four sons, Clay Charles, Ronnie James Mullins, William Bo Charles and Paris Jr. Charles; one brother, Jack Whisman; two sisters, Shelby Posey and Kate Noel; and granddaughter, Janie Elizabeth Charles.
She is survived by two sons, Paris Randall Charles of Richmond and Johnny Mack Mullins (Delane) of Pikeville; three daughters, Pamela Jean Mullins Hunt (Sheryl Heggs) of Lexington, Patsy Lycans of Pikeville, Parthenia Charles Leal (Roman) of Port Charlotte, Fla.; three sisters, Betty Zane Mullins of Pikeville and Colleen Vanover and Sonja Runyon, both of Ypsilanti, Mich.; 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one expected soon great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Bliffen officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Inos Copley
Inos Copley, 85, of Louisville, formerly of Pikeville, died Saturday, Sept. 7, at her home.
She was a retired office manager of Trinity Towers, former office manager for G.C. Murphy Company in Pikeville, a member of the Eastern Star and St. Mark United Methodist Church, Louisville.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Walker Copley; one son, Dr. Robert Copley II; one daughter, Rebecca K. Copley; six brothers; one sister; and two grandchildren, Bobby and Preston.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 24, in the Highlands Family Owned Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Cave Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Highlands Family Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville.
Visitation is Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon.

Patricia Finley
Patricia Gayle Finley, 57, of Naugatuck, W.Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born in Williamson, W.Va., Oct. 27, 1953, the daughter of Alice Newsome Noel of Lavalette, W.Va., and the late Walter Noel.
She was a homemaker, a former secretary, and a member of the Bethel Temple Assembly of God.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Ron Finley; two children, Tracy Finley and Keith Finley, both of the home; two sisters, Judy Gilliam of Cleveland, Tenn., and Marlene Ferrell Glascock of El Paso, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in the Hatfield Funeral Home Chapel with Haskell Runyon Jr., Bobby Perry and Mike Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.

Ernest Hall
Ernest Hall, 83, of Little Robinson Creek, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at his home.
He was born in Knott County, Dec. 26, 1927, the son of the late Sam and Bertha Hall.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Curtis Hall; two sisters, Zelda Newsome and Emma Centers.
He was a disabled coal miner, formerly employed by Island Creek Coal Company, and a deacon at Buckfield Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by one son, Jerry Wayne Hall of Little Robinson Creek; two daughters, Loretta Stanley and Doris Ann Hamblin, both of Little Robinson Creek; one brother, Ralph Hall of Illinois; five sisters, Ellen Newsome, Julia Bryant and Mildred Hall, all of Virgie, Irene Ellis of Ohio and Cora Scharf of Arizona; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Freewill Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Rob Newsome Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
