Jessie Dixon
Jessie Dixon, 92, of Westerville, Ohio, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, in Westerville.
She was born in Pike County, the daughter of the late Conley and Myrtle Perry Johnson.
She was retired from Dawahare’s Department Store and was a member of the Pikeville Freewill Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Fannie Johnson; her husband, Emil “Slim” Dixon; one son, Homer Tackett; two sisters, Anna Lee Mobley and Fannie Edna Clark; and four brothers, Morris Johnson, Lowell Johnson, George Chase Johnson and Eugene Poe Johnson.
She is survived by two sons, Emil Dixon (Carolyn) of Maiden, N.C., and Mike Dixon of Westerville; one brother, Francis Conley Johnson of Louisville; one sister, Marietta Moore of Virgie; five grandchildren, Jody Dixon (Sheree), Becky Kukay (Craig), Julie Carroll (Michael), Chris Dixon (Alisa) and Kevin Dixon (Stacie); and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 22, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Don Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Pallbearers will be Craig Kukay, Jody Dixon, Michael Carroll, Chris Dixon and Kevin Dixon.
Scottie Estep
Scottie Estep, 56, of Hur
ley, Va., died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at his home.
He was born in Pike County, the son of the late Garland and Ruby Jane Scarberry Estep.
He was a coal miner and of the Christian faith.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Estep; one brother, Jeffery Estep; and two sisters, Beatrice Estep and Patricia Estep.
He is survived by one stepson, Michael Sykes of Grundy, Va.; one stepdaughter, Missy Salmon of Grundy; two brothers, Orville Estep and Dallas Estep, both of Hurley; three sisters, Bertha Allen of Hurley, Edna Justice of Freeburn and Joann Lester of Woodman; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, in the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Thomas Douglas Maynard and Wilburn Dotson officiating. Burial followed in the Estep Family Cemetery, Paw Paw, near Hurley. Arrangements were under direction of Grundy Funeral Home.
Doffie Hall
Doffie Hall, 72, of Williamson, W.Va., died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in McDowell, April 7, 1939, the son of the late Silas and Stella Hall.
He was a retired coal miner, a member of United Mine Workers of America, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the East Williamson Baptist Church. He was active in the Mingo County Democratic Party.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Ann Agee Hall; and three brothers.
He is survived by one son, Ralph Hall of Williamson, W.Va.; and one granddaughter, Skylar Hall.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, in the East Williamson Baptist Church with Bro. Bob Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Visitation is in the funeral home chapel from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Glen Mims
Glen “Bozo” Clinton Mims, 53, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, July 9, 1958, the son of the late Kelsey Clinton Mims, who died May 15, 1965, and Ethel Ray Mims, who died Feb. 4, 1995.
He was a disabled auto mechanic and believed in the Church of Christ. He lived a full and large life.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Patrick Wayne Mims; two brothers, Kelsey Delano Mims and Glen Clinton Mims; and one sister, Nannie Myrtle Storey.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadine Barker Mims, who he married
April 6, 1985; one son, Joshua Glen Mims (Melena) of Fort Eustis, Va.; one brother, Willie Albert Mims (Pam) of Pikeville; one sister, Mary Ethel Bush (Tommy) of Pikeville; and three grandchildren, Ashtyn Joshua Mims, Ethan Patrick Mims and Colin Zane Mims.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Tommy Bush officiating. Burial will follow in the Mims Family Cemetery, Hurricane Road. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Beulah Robinson
Beulah Mae Coleman Robinson, 83, of Dry Fork, Shelbiana, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County, April 24, 1928, the daughter of the late Noah Coleman and Nancy Thacker Coleman.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Elizabeth Old Regular Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Esmer “Duck” Robinson; one son, Palmer Keathley Robinson; three brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by four sons, Gerald Robinson (Joyce) and Tony Robinson, both of Pikeville, Rell Robinson (Sherry) of Raccoon, Freddie Robinson of Shelbiana; one daughter, Brenda Williams (Roy) of Mt. Sterling; two sisters, Ida Keene of Pikeville and Betty Barnes of Florida; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Eloise Slone
Eloise Thacker Slone, 82, of Lower Pompey, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at her home.
She was born at Fishtrap, Sept. 15, 1929, the daughter of the late Rose Coleman and Preston Taulby Thacker.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband, Jeff Thacker; her second husband, Johnny Slone; and two sons, Preston Jeffery Thacker and Phillip Dean Thacker.
She is survived by two sons, Butch Thacker and Tilden Wayne Thacker; six daughters, Rosalie Slone, Connazine Ratliff, Norma Thacker, Debra Hampton, Tracy Belcher and Anna Thacker; three brothers, Ireland Thacker, Felon Thacker and Preston Thacker; four sisters, Lucy Thacker Elizabeth Nichols, Goldie Cantrell and Dovie Simons; 22 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Mark Randal Stafford, 56, of Blackberry City, W.Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital, Huntington, W.Va.

Bailey Thompson
Bailey Thompson, 71, of Kimper, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Buchanan County, Va., Saturday, Nov. 18, 1939, the son of the late Samuel and Margie Thompson.
He was a retired prep plant operator for Berkley Energy, formerly Canada Coal, and was a member of the Kimper Church of God where he served for over 40 years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda McCoy and Dorothy McClanahan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Phyllis (Rife) Thompson; one son, Ronald Gene Thompson (Teresa) of Concord, N.C.; six daughters, Nedra Williams (Jimmy) of Kimper, Mary Beavers (Mike) of Somerset, Carolyn Pennington (Tim) of Jackson, Jennifer Thacker (Brian) of Dandridge, Tenn., Rhonda Reynolds (Bob) of Corbin, Lorie Goff (Keith) of Pikeville; seven brothers, Charles Thompson (Clara) of Big Rock, Va., Harold Thompson, James Thompson, Danny Thompson (Donna) and Pal Thompson (Pam), all of Grundy, Va., Roger Thompson of Johnson City, Tenn., Jerry Thompson (Peggy) of Florence, S.C.; six sisters, Brenda Lee (Marsh), Betty Clevinger (Larry), and JoAnn Duty (J.R.), all of Grundy, Peggy McClanahan (Richard) of Hurley, Va., Lydia Thompson and Patricia Blue (Tim), both of Florence; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and his father- and mother-in-law, Kermit and Shirley Rife of Springhill, Fla.

Paula Reed
Paula Jean Reed, 45, of Sidney, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 at her residence.
She war born May 1, 1966 at Williamson, W.V. , the daughter of Nita Jean Smith West of Sidney and the late Tunis West.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Cullen and Ethel Smith and Finis and Flora West.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Williamson Area Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Phillip Rodney Reed; daughter, Ashley Elyse Tussey of South Williamson; brothers, Steve West and Jarrod West of Sidney; sisters Sandy Reed of Canada and Allyson Kendrick of Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday Sept. 26, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Charles Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Crigger Cemetery Sidney
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, with special services at 7 PM Sunday.

Elmer Thacker
Elmer Thacker, 87, of Huddy, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at his home.
He was born at Canada, June 10, 1924, the son of the late Landon and Stella Smith Thacker.
He was a retired coal miner, formerly employed by Eastern Coal Company, and was also retired from Nutone in Cincinnati.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member and ordained minister of the Primitive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Fred Smith, Floyd B. Thacker, Bobby Thacker, Billy Thacker, Tunis Thacker and Sammy Thacker; and one sister, Goldie Williamson.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Irene Blackburn Thacker; one son, Timothy Dwayne Thacker of the home; one daughter, Mary Ellen West of Canada; four brothers, R.T. Thacker of Wellington, Jack Thacker of Cincinnati, Edgar Thacker and Sonny Thacker, both of Canada; two sisters, Lena Mae Biesecker of Newark, Del., and Barbara Leedy of Canada; and three grandchildren, Amanda Ryan, Johnathan Russell and Nicholas Clayton West, all of Canada.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Elswick, Randall Thornsbury, David Allen Thacker and David May officiating. Burial will follow in the Coburn Point Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
