LEDBETTER, Ky. - Patricia M. Marine, 68, passed away July 9, 2002 at Salem Springlake Care Center.
She is survived by her husband, Melbourne Marine of Ledbetter; two daughters, Lesley Crapia of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gillian Kelly of Manteca, Calif.; a brother, Barry Jones of England; a sister, Sheila Brewer of England; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reginald and Ellen Gore Jones.
There were no services at Boyd Funeral Home.

Shack
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Willie Lee Shack, 53, formerly of Marion, passed away July 1, 2002 as a result of injuries he suffered in a car accident in Webster County.
He was born in Boyle, Miss., attended Bosse High School, served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and received medals of National Defense, the Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was retired from the Earl C. Clements Job Corps Center as well as from Peabody Coal Camp No. 1 in Morganfield. He was a member of Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 10 years, Gina Shack; a daughter, Erica Shack of Marion; his parents, Mary and Charles Dunbar of Evansville; four sisters, Jeannie Wells of Atlanta, Antoinette Moore, Charles King and Pamela Buggs, all of Evansville; two brothers, Joseph Dunbar and Tyrone Dunbar, both of Evansville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held July 6 at Bethany Apostolic Church in Evansville with Bishop G.L. Frazier officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Smith
SALEM, Ky. - Luther Smith, 66, passed away July 9, 2002 at Crittenden Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Nora Lena Lemon Smith; two sons, Luther Eugene Smith of Newburgh, Ind., and Jeffery Bryant Smith of Portage, Ind.; six sisters, Jeana Gayheart, Margaret Grigsby, Connie Grigsley, Betty combs, Vickie Grubbs and Malvery Oldfield, all of Hazard; a brother, Denver Smith of Marion; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Lois Watson of Bangor, Maine; a stepson, James Matthew Watson of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a stepbrother, Michael Smith of Hazard; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a brother; a sister; and his parents, Alfred and Ollie Dodson Smith.
Funeral services will be held July 12 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Lola Cemetery.
Hopkins
Jerry Ray Hopkins, 63, of Marion, passed away July 6, 2002 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
He is survived by a sister, Phillis E. Patmor of Marion; a brother, Scotty Hopkins of Marion; and four nephews.
Graveside services were held July 6 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Caldwell County. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Fournier
FARMERSVILLE, Texas - Rev. George Fournier, 67, passed away June 29, 2002. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He pastored churches in Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas, including Second Baptist Church in Marion for more than 30 years.
Surviving are his wife, Lucy Fournier; a son, Paul Fournier of Austin, Texas; his stepmother, Lois Fournier of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, Clifford Fournier of Bethel, Conn., and Robert Fournier of Baltimore; two sisters, Louise Gagne of Florida and Dorothy Fournier of Baltimore.
Services were held July 6 in Paris, Tenn., with Rev. Gilman Walker officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lexington, Tenn.
Young
SALEM, Ky. - Alice Jean Young, 74, passed away June 27, 2002 at her home.
She is survived by her husband, James H. Young; a son, James Duane Young of Chandler, Ind.; a daughter, Sheila Marlene Russell of Salem; two brothers, Lewis Grace of Evansville and Loren Grace of Cadiz; a sister, Laura Tackett of Lansing, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
Funeral services were held June 29 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.
White
EDDYVILLE, Ky. - William S. "Bill" White, 83, passed away June 29, 2002 on his farm from injuries he suffered in a four-wheeler accident. He and his wife, Rachel Dorroh White, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary June 28.
White was a farmer and member and trustee of New Bethel Baptist Church in Lyon County. He was treasurer and trustee of New Bethel Cemetery in Lyon County. He was a WWII Army veteran, serving as staff sergeant, First Battalion, 66th Armored Regiment. He served in Algeria-French Morocco, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes. He was employed 15 years at National Carbide in Calvert City.
White was a former deputy sheriff of Lyon County, serving from 1962-1974 under Sheriff Robert "Bock" White and Sheriff James "Curly" Thompson. He was Lyon County Sheriff from 1974-1978.
White was past-president and director of Lyon County Farm Bureau; was a past member of the Lyon County Extension Board; was on the ASCS committee in Lyon County and was an active member of the Democratic Executive Committee in Lyon County.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Rodney White of Eddyville; a sister, Velma Jones of Eddyville; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert "Bock" White and Charles White; and his parents, Robert White and Grace Woodall White.
Funeral services were held July 3 at Lakeland Funeral Home with Dr. Jerrell White and Bro. Gates Bowman officiating. Burial was in New Bethel Cemetery.
York
FREDONIA, Ky. - Mabel Nannie York, 94, passed away July 1, 2002 at Crittenden Hospital. Funeral services were held July 3 at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Danny York officiating. Burial was in Fredonia Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, James "Buddy" York and Larry York, both of Fredonia, and Rev. Danny York of Camden, Ark.; four daughters, Shirley Stalion of Crayne, Jo Ann Dalton of Crider, Jane Burton of Princeton and Betty Harris of Tennessee Ridge, Tenn.; a sister, Minnie Prowell Taylor of Brevard, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton York and a daughter, Virginia Rustin. Her parents were Finis Elmer Travis and Nannie Mary Hodge.

Rankin
MT. PLEASANT, Iowa - Daisy D. Rankin, 92, passed away June 29, 2002 at her home. Funeral services were held July 2 at Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at Gilbert Funeral Home followed by burial in Mapleview Cemetery.
Rankin was born in Crittenden County, graduated from CCHS in 1927 and received a teacher's certificate from Murray State Teacher's College. She taught and tutored students in grades one through eight. She and her husband, the late Harold Rankin, Sr., lived in Illinois, Louisville, New York, Iowa and Deleware where her husband's job as a meat inspector took them. The couple retired to Marion in 1968 but in 1985 moved to Mt. Pleasant.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, was a member of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter NZ of Mt. Pleasant and a former member of the Wa-Tan-Ye Club.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Harold "Pete" Rankin of Mt. Pleasant and Bruce Rankin of Miami; five granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Hill and Ollie Bernal "Doc" Hill; and a sister, Aline Stalion. Her parents were George and Lillie Wilson Hill.
