EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Billy W. Simpkins, 75, formerly of Marion, passed away July 3, 2002 at his home in Evansville.
He was a 1944 graduate of Frances High School and a World War II veteran.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Genevieve Simpkins; a son, Terry Simpkins of Yorktown, Va.; a daughter, Kitty Lowe of Old Hickory, Tenn.; a brother, W.L. Simpkins of Evansville; a sister, Linda Sue Tosh of Kuttawa; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Phillips.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., July 6 at Frances Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Thomas
KUTTAWA, Ky. - Stanley Thomas, 79, passed away June 24, 2002 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. He was a retired chemical operator at Elf Atochem in Calvert City and a deacon and member of Lakeland Baptist Temple in Calvert City. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Leona Guess Thomas; a son, Calvin Thomas of Kuttawa; two daughters, Martha Yates of Kuttawa and Sara Bouland of Calvert City; a brother, Howard Thomas of Fredonia; three sisters, Lela Smith, Lillie Yates and Geneva Stinnett, all of Kuttawa; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Thomas and Ethel Boyd Thomas; a brother; and a sister.
Funeral services were held June 26 at Lakeland Baptist Temple with Rev. John Terry officiating. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery in Lyon County.
Vaughan
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Joseph Barnett Vaughan, 91, passed away June 9, 2002 at Good Samaritan Home. Vaughan was born in Marion and was a resident of Evansville since 1943. He worked as a geologist with Ashland Oil for 16 years; was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 1 of Lexington and of the Hadi Shrine of Evansville. He was also a member of Methodist Temple and its Crusader Class since 1950.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Friendly Vaughan; three sons, Larry B. Vaughan of Los Angeles, Calif., Jerryl W. Vaughan of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Randall B. Vaughan of Orlando; two sisters, Allie Mae Feller of Evansville and Martha Helen Patmor of Marion; three brothers, Bruce Vaughan of Phelan, Calif., Kelly Vaughan of Raytown, Mo., and Gavin Vaughan of Hobbs, N.M.; two grandchildren; one step grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held June 12 at Methodist Temple in Evansville with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery in Evansville.
Zollinger
HENDERSON, Ky. - Larry Zollinger, 51, passed away June 21, 2002 in a work-related accident. He was employed at Taubensee Steel and Wire in Henderson and had worked for Wiser Oil Company for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Freda Zollinger; two sons, Daniel Zollinger and Brian Zollinger, both of Henderson; his mother, Esta Zollinger of Corydon; five sisters, Priscilla Gano of Ingelside, Ill., Carolyn Sue Barrett of Burna, Shirley Edens of Clay, Rita Zollinger of Morganfield, and Sandra Bennett of Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. June 20 at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Roddy will officiate. Burial will be in Smith Mills Cemetery.
Belt
FAIRFIELD BAY, Ark. - Hallie Jean Belt, 73, formerly of Marion, passed away June 16, 2002 at Indian Rock Village Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held June 18 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Lee of Fox, Ark.; three sons, Carl Belt and Stephen Belt, both of Marion, and George Belt of Smithland; a sister, Ophia Walker of Golconda, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, G.B. Belt; two sons, Randall Belt and Alen Wayne Belt; and her parents, Roy and Effie Dalton Tabor.
Phelps
HENDERSON, Ky. - Ronald E. Phelps, 58, passed away June 16, 2002 at his home.
He was a member and deacon of Audubon Baptist Church, a 39-year employee of Whirlpool and a member of Local 808.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Vanda L. Phelps; four daughters, Ronda K. Phelps, Rita K. Herron, Regina K. Gish and Rebecca K. Phelps, all of Henderson; his father, Eugene Phelps of Marion; a sister, Melinda Walker of Cave In Rock, Ill.; six grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held June 19 at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home with Rev. John Clares and Rev. Richard Shockley officiating. Burial was in Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson.

Dickerson
HAMPTON, Ky. - Funeral services for Edward Dickerson, 90, were held June 16 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Wring officiating. Burial was in Hampton Cemetery.
Dickerson passed away June 14, 2002 at Livingston Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Isabell Dickerson of Hampton; three daughters, Armale Kimberlin, Linda Imis and Evelyn Edmonds, all of Hampton; a brother, Marvin Dickerson of Hampton; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers; three sisters; and a grandson. His parents were John and Flora Stanley Dickerson.
Rushing
FREDONIA, Ky. - Kenneth "Ebb" Rushing, Jr., 33, passed away June 13, 2002 in a four-wheeler accident.
He is survived by his mother, Edna Johnson of Marion; his stepfather, James Johnson of Marion; his grandmother, Mary Fox of Marion; four sisters, Tammy Fitzgerald, Sunshine Driver and Lisa Williamson, all of Marion, and Janie Harris Patton of Princeton; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth E. Rushing, Sr.; and a brother, Randy Johnson.
Funeral services were held June 16 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Devine officiating. Burial was in Crayne Cemetery.
Hayden
SALEM, Ky. - Dianna Kay Hayden, 43, passed away June 13, 2002 at her home. She was a member of Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Terry Hayden of Salem; a stepson, Terry Hayden of Smithland; four brothers, Bobby Hunter of Burna, Jessie Hunter, Danny Hunter and Alvin "Toby" Hunter, all of Salem; three sisters, Agnes Duncan of Burna, Nerva Loveless of Smithland and Louise Cox of Marion; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buel Edward and Clara Adams Hunter; and two brothers, Calvin Hunter and Billy Hunter.
Funeral services were held June 15 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. David LeNeave officiating. Burial was in Tyners Chapel Cemetery.
