James W. Johnson, 80, of Marion, passed away April 29, 2002 at Crittenden Hospital.
He was a member of Marion United Methodist Church, owner of Johnson's Furniture & Appliances in Marion and Princeton, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Marion Rotary Club. He was a charter member and past president of Crittenden County Lions Club, a former Marion City Council member, a charter member of Marion Country Club, a Kentucky Colonel, a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret June Johnson of Marion; a son, James Carl Johnson of Marion; a daughter, Rebecca Johnson-Crider; a sister, Mary Margaret Roher of New Harmony; and four granddaughters of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Katie Johnson.
Funeral services were held May 1 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Garvey officiating. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.

Gunther
Ralph B. Gunther, 80, of Marion, passed away April 29, 2002 at Crittenden Hospital.
He was retired from Eaton Axel in Henderson and was a member of Marion Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Gunther of Marion; two daughters, Linda Rustin of Fredonia and Karen Vaughn of Marion; a sister, Pauline Armstrong of Princeton; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tiller and Eva Gunther.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., May 2 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Mapleview Cemetery.
Alexander
Margaret "Pat" Alexander, 80, of Marion, passed away April 25, 2002 at Methodist Hospital in Morganfield.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Marion and a graduate of Morganfield High School.
Surviving are two daughters, Madonna Wyatt and Sandy Menser, both of Morganfield; a son, Tracy Rice of Marion; a stepdaughter, Betty Rich of Dixon; a stepson, George Rice of Salem; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, W.L. Rice and W.P. Alexander; and a son, Dickie Gough.
Funeral services were held April 28 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Thurman officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Westberry
HOUSTON, Texas - B. M. Westberry, 75, of Paducah, passed away April 29, 2002.
He was born in Georgetown, Louisiana and moved to Smithland, Ky., following the flood of 1937.
Westberry graduated from Livingston Central High School in 1944, attended Indiana University and Murray State University, and was awarded the Bernard Flexnor Scholarship to the University of Louisville College of Law. He graduated in 1950. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and was its Justice during his final year in law school.
He served as a member of the Army Air Corps during World War II and as a lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He began the practice of law with his stepfather, Raymond Dycus, in Smithland. After the Korean War, he engaged in the practice of law in Marion. At the time of his death he was Of Counsel to the Paducah law firm of McMurry & Livingston. During his practice in Marion, he was the city attorney from 1965 to 1967 and the Crittenden County Attorney from 1954 to 1962 and from 1967 to 1974.
Serving his profession as a member of the House of Delegates of the Kentucky Bar Association from 1962 to 1969 and as a member of its Board of Governors from 1969 to 1980, he was elected by the membership of the association to serve as President from 1978 to 1979. Westberry was the first Chairman of the Judicial Ethics Committee for the Kentucky Bar Association and continued in that position until the time of his death. He also served as President of the Southern Conference of Bar Presidents.
At various times during his lifetime, he served his communities as Sunday School teacher at the Marion United Methodist Church, Chairman of the Board of the Crittenden Hospital, Trustee of Saint Andrews-Sewanee School, Sewanee, Tennessee, and Regent of Murray State University. He was Chairman of the Paducah Airport Board at the time of his death. He was a 32° Mason, Scottish Rite and a member of the Country Club of Paducah.
Westberry was also a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Paducah.
For over 50 years, Westberry practiced law throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He was an early advocate of pro bono services for the poor and demonstrated his commitment often by donating his time and advice. Among his representative clients were Crushed Stone, Inc., its successor Vulcan Materials Company, and Jim R. Smith Contracting Company, Inc. He also represented David Reed and Jim Smith in their acquisition of the Paducah and Louisville Railroad, Inc. Earlier in his career he represented the Fluorspar Industry in western Kentucky, including Alcoa Aluminum and Reynolds Metals.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Nancy Elizabeth Kent; two sons, R. Kent Westberry, a Louisville attorney, and William Bishop Westberry, a Houston, Texas businessman; three sisters, Doris Daigle, Patricia Callendar and Vickie McGee; and two grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Milner & Orr in Paducah. The family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
Ablett
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - James W. Ablett, Sr., 85, formerly of Burna, passed away April 20, 2002 at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Salem, and retired from the RCA Record Division.
Surviving are his wife, Eloise Head Ablett; and a son, James W. Ablett, Jr., both of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James O. Ablett and Maude Bennett Ablett.
Funeral services were held April 24 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Snyder officiating. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Malcom
ELKHART, Ind. - Imogene Malcom, 83, formerly of Salem, passed away April 19, 2002 at Elkhart General Hospital. She was a member of Assembly of God Church in Elkhart. She was retired from G.M. Distributors in Elkhart and worked at Richardson Mobile Homes.
Surviving are seven sons, James Malcom, Kenneth Malcom, Roy Malcom, Garry Malcom, Rick Malcom and Roger Malcom, all of Elkhart, George Malcom of Salem; a daughter, Janice Books of Elkhart; two sisters, Gladys Ramage of Evansville and Mary Jo McNeelie of Marion; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Raymond Malcom; a brother, Carl Guess; a sister, Augusta Herst; and her parents, Ira Guess and Ina Holland Guess.
Funeral services were held April 24 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Snyder officiating. Burial was in Loveless Chapel Cemetery in Salem.
Drennan
Betty L. Drennan, 64, of Marion, passed away April 19, 2002 at Crittenden Hospital. She was a member of Sugar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church and worked more than 30 years at Potter & Brumfield/Siemens.
Survivors include her husband, Clinton "Pete" Drennan of Marion; a daughter, Connie Daily of Murray; a stepson, Clinton E. Drennan of Cario, Ky.; three stepdaughters, Barbara Irwin of Indianapolis, Nancy Grealis of Henderson, Nev., and Mary Lee Carmicale of Evansville; two brothers, Alvin Beasley of Marion, Ill., Jimmy Beasley of Creal Springs, Ill.; a sister, Deloris Stokes of Marion, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchilden; and 10 step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held April 22 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Vasseur and Rev. David LeNeave officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
