SALEM, Ky. - Vera Madry Slayden, 88, passed away March 16, 2002 at Salem Springlake Care Center. She attended Lola Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include a son, Douglas Slayden of Lola; a daughter, Mona Bebout of Lola; two sisters, Lama Wilson and Dorothy Shoemaker, both of Lola; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Slayden. Her parents were Millard and Ida Mae Watson Madry.
Funeral services were held March 19 at Boyd Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Fouts and Bro. Mike Snyder officiating. Burial was in Lola Cemetery.
Guess
BALDWIN, Mo. - Graveside services for Jane Katherine Guess, 74, formerly of Marion, were held March 18, 2002 at Mapleview Cemetery with Dan Heaman officiating. Guess passed away March 15 in Ellisville, Mo.
Clark
BLACKFORD, Ky. - Alfred "Buck" Clark, 78, passed away March 13, 2002 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
He was a retired section foreman for a local railroad company and was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 881 in Wheatcroft.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Irene Clark of Blackford; a daughter Lisa VanCleve of Knoxville; two sons, Thomas Clark of Niagra, Ky., and Rickey Clark of Clay; two brothers, Melbourn Clark of Sturgis and Raymond Clark of Marion; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 16 at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay with Bro. Robert Phillips and Bro. Melvin Clark officiating. Burial was in White Oak Cemetery near Clay.
Heater
Jean Johnson Heater, 74, of Marion, formely of Sarasota, Fla., passed away March 13, 2002 at her home.
Surviving are a daughter, Marsha Starnes of Marion; a sister, Gladys Franklin of Montgomery, Ala.; a brother, James Johnson of Orlando; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
There will be no funeral services at Gilbert Funeral Home.
Gibson
James Calvin Gibson, 63, of Marion, passed away March 13, 2002 at Crittenden Hospital.
He is survived by two brothers, Leonard Gibson of Sturgis and Darrell Gibson of Clay; three sisters, Mary Newcom and Carolyn Ashby of Clay, and Sue James of Sturgis; his stepmother, Flora Gibson of Sturgis; and a stepsister, Velda Schaffener of Sturgis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff Franklin Gibson and Katie Odom Gibson; five brothers; and a sister.
Funeral services were held March 16 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial was in White Oak Cemetery.
Spees
SEMINOLE, Fla. - Iola Spees, 87, passed away March 5, 2002 at Sun Coast Hospital. She was a former resident of Carrsville and Rosiclare, Ill.
Surviving are two brothers, Donald Owen Spees of Dickson, Ill., and Emil Ray Spees of Carbondale, Ill.; a sister, Waneta Nord of St. Charles, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held March 15 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Cheever officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
Easley
Virginia Alice Hughes Easley, 91, of Marion, passed away March 18, 2002 at Salem Springlake Care Center.
She is survived by three daughters, Maggie Sue Ames of Zionsville, Ind., Jerilyn May of Marion and Danielle Franklin of Princeton; three sons, Larry Easley and Keith Easley, both of Tolu and Noble Easley of Marion; a sister Mary Jim Alvis of Marion; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woody Easley; a son, Bruce Easley; a brother, Noble Hughes; and a sister, Ilene Whitham.
Funeral services were held March 20 at Boyd Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Phillips and Sister Lucy Tedrick officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Newcom
STURGIS, Ky. - Edwin G. Newcom, Jr., 65, passed away March 10, 2002 at Crittenden Hospital. He was a member of Baker Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Newcom of Sturgis; four daughters, Chastity Newcom of Sturgis, Debbie Kosary of Chicago, Cindy Adams of Decovan, Ill., and Connie Parker of Benton; three sons, Edwin Newcom, Jr., of Calvert City, Edward Kosary of Chicago and David Newcom of Uniontown; his mother, Catherine Newcom of Benton; a sister, Verna York of Benton; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ross Newcom; and a brother, Danny Newcom.

HENDERSON, Ky. - Lena Drury Frazier, 85, formerly of Marion, passed away March 10, 2002 at Medco Nursing Home.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Pruitt of Henderson; a son, Bob Hayes of Somerset; a sister, Laura Franks of Brunswick, Ga.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 12 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Marksberry
COVINGTON, Ky. - Funeral services for Harry William "Bill" Marksberry, 76, were held March 11, 2002 at Allison and Rose Funeral Home in Covington. Rev. Michael Sweeney officiated.
Marksberry passed away March 8 at St. Elizabeth North Hospital in Covington.
He was a retired maintenance worker for National Distillery after 44 years and a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by three sisters, Geraldine Beagle of Covington, Loraine Duncan of Independence and Kathleen Williams of Covington; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held March 10 at Boyd Funeral Home with burial in Asbridge Cemetery.
