LEDBETTER, Ky. - Funeral services for Chester Devoid Gainey, 80, of Ledbetter, were held March 5, 2002 at Boyd Funeral Home. Bro. Willie Guess officiated. Burial was in Cothran Cemetery.
He passed away March 2, 2002 at his home.
Gainey, a veteran of World War II, passed away March 2 at his home. He was a member of the 291 Infantry Regiment and was shot and captured in 1945 by the Germans. He was a prisoner of war for six months. He was honored during a ceremony in Miami at the war's end during which he received a Purple Heart medal from Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower. After his military career, he was a truck driver, making his last run at age 80.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mina Mae Gainey of Ledbetter; five daughters, Mona "Becky" Lanier of Decatur, Ill., Sandra Krenn of Kalamazoo, Mich., Joyce McKinney and Judy Sexton, both of Ledbetter, Tammy Noles of Smithland; three sons, Bobby Gainey and Will Gainey, both of Grand Rivers, and David Gainey of Ledbetter; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
His parents were Lillie Perry Gainey and James W. Gainey.
Lindsey
WAVERLY, Ky. - Thomas Gordon Lindsey, 37, of Waverly, passed away Feb. 27, 2002. Funeral services were held March 2 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waverly, where he was a member. Father Patrick M. Bittel officiated. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Anita Lindsey of Waverly; two daughters, Katie Lindsey and Emily Lindsey, at home; a son, Braden Lindsey, at home; his mother, Rosemary Farmer of Marion; four sisters, Donna Parker of Marion, Rena Coerver of St. Louis, Patti Wilkins of Greenville and Kay McWorthy of Sturgis; and a brother, Jimmy Lindsey of Fulton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Lindsey; and a sister, Marilyn Trail.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann Catholic School, St. Peter's Church or St. Anthony's Hospice.
Jennings
BURNA, Ky. David Wayne Jennings, 36, of Burna, passed away Feb. 26, 2002 in Henderson.
Funeral services were held March 1 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Wring officiating. Burial was in Hampton Cemetery.
Surviving are his mother, Martha Odom of Henderson; his father, Carl Jennings of Burna; three sisters, Darlene Adams of Clay, April Guthrie of Evansville and Jennifer Odom of Henderson; a brother, Charlie Odom of Henderson; a grandmother, Naomi Eskew of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and one niece and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, C.D. Eskew and Will and Gertrude Jennings.
James
SALEM, Ky. - Funeral services for Kenny Ray James, 45, of Salem, were held March 1, 2002 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Cortis Hill officiating. Burial was in Tyners Chapel Cemetery.
James passed away Feb. 27 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
He was employed by Ohio Valley Marine Co., of Henderson.
Survivors include his father, Gilbert James of Salem; three brothers, Greg James, Bobby James and Jamie James, all of Salem; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Guess James; and a brother, Roger James.
Stevens
SALEM, Ky. - Paul E. Stevens, 42, of Salem, passed away March 5, 2002 at Crittenden Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Angie Stevens of Salem; two daughters, miranda Stevens and Kristin Stevens, both of Salem; two brothers, Richard Stevens of Marion and Kenneth Stevens of Nashville; two sisters, Carol Franks of Smyrna, Tenn., and Barbara Adams of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Jean Stevens.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., March 7 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Sivells and Rev. Jim Wring officiating.

Kirk
Newton Paris Kirk, 80, of Marion, passed away Feb. 24, 2002 at Crittenden Hospital.
He was a member of Tyner Chapel Church Independent and attended Cave Springs General Baptist Church. He was a former Marion Police officer, and retired after 20 years as fire chief at the Earl C. Clements Job Corps. Center. He also retired after 15 years as a bus driver for the Crittenden County School District. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Kirk of Marion; three daughters, Brenda Foster of Burna, Linda Myrick of Marion and Rhonda Horack of St. Louis; a son, Robert Kirk of Marion; and a sister, Mary Anna Kirk of Springfield, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ella Mae Kirk; and a brother, Sherman Kirk.
Funeral services were held Feb. 26 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.
Shaffer
Roberta Frances Moxley Duncan Chittenden Shaffer, 81, of Marion, passed away Feb. 22, 2002 at Salem Springlake Care Center. She was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include seven sons, Cecil Duncan of Collinsville, Ill., Kenneth Duncan of Mountain View, Wyo., James Duncan and William Duncan of Marion, Douglas Duncan of Lewisburg, Randy Chittenden of West Memphis, Ark., and Robert Chittenden of Evansville; three daughters, Pauline Nichols of Providence, Peggy Reed of Eddyville and Gail Reed of Marion; a sister, Christeen Cowan of Lincoln, Ill.; a brother, Jepetha Moxley of Burna; 36 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Freman Duncan; her second husband, James Barney Chittenden; her third husband, James Shaffer; a son, Louis Ray Chittenden; a brother; a sister; and three grandchildren. Her parents were John Given and Catherine Moxley.
Funeral services were held Feb. 24 at Boyd Funeral Home with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Moore
Lillie Mae moore, 78, of Marion, passed away Feb. 23, 2002 at Crittenden Hospital. She was a member of Mexico Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Ann Lynn and Carlene Binkley, both of Marion; three sons, Archie Walker of Houston, Paul Walker of Henderson and James Walker of Bowling Green; a sister, Mary Meeks of Marion; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 26 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial was in Fredonia Cemetery.
McKinney
Funeral services for Marie Ada McKinney, 99, of Newburgh, Ind., formerly of Marion, were held Feb. 23 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Dr. Darrell Clarke officiating. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.
McKinney passed away Feb. 21, 2002 at Woodlands Convalescent Center in Newburgh.
She is survived by a two sisters, Hester Nunn and Dorothy Lockhart, both of Marion; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman McKinney; and a daughter, Naoma Nixon.
