Velda Mae "Tootsie" Kirk, 80, of Marion, passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003 at Livingston Hospital in Salem.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Crayne.
Mrs. Kirk is survived by four sons, Kenney Kirk of Marion, Tootie Rushing of Fredonia, Jimmy Porter of Tolu and Tommy Kirk of Cave-In-Rock, Ill; two daughters, Phyllis Joyner of Stone Fort, Ill., and Brice Kirk of Santa Barbara, Calif.; one sister, Martha Oxford of Springfield, Ill.; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Guthrie Kirk.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Gilbert Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Watson, the Rev. Roger Waters and the Rev. David LeNeave officiating, followed by burial in Mapleview Cemetery.
Barnes
Dessie M. Barnes, 91, of Burna, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at Crittenden Hospital.
She was a member of Dyer Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Nona Lee Davis of Joliet, Ill., Joyce Ann McMican of Hatfield, Ind., Lavern Sanders of Euclid, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney E. Barnes; six brothers and one sister. Her parents were George T. and Nona Dunkerson.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 21, at Boyd Funeral Home in Salem with the Rev. Randy Beals officiating, followed by burial in Dyer Hill Cemetery.
Curnel
Edward Curnel, 66, of Santa Monica, Calif., formerly of Livingston County, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Fireside Convalescent Hospital in Santa Monica, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Brasher Curnel of Santa Monica; two sons, Michael L.Curnel of Lemoore, Calif., and Kevin Curnel of Santa Monica; three brothers, Harrell Curnel of Washington, Willard Curnel and Wilbur Curnel, both of Paducah; five sisters, Louise Birch of Florida, Gaydean Custer of California, Elouise Howard of Burna, Erlean Watson of Evansville, Ind., Lucille Asbridge of Georgia; one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
His parents were Audie and Fleeta Hardesty Curnel.
Services were Thursday, Feb. 20, at Boyd Funeral Home with the Rev. Walzie Hosick and the Rev. John East officiating, followed by burial in Salem Cemetery.
Koon
James W. "Bunny" Koon, 60, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003 at Lourdes Hospital.
He was a member of Burna Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Diann Cosby Koon of Salem; son, Danny Wayne Koon of Salem; granddaughter, Meighan Rose Koon; mother, Mary E. Koon of Marion; brother, William J. Koon of Marion; and sister, Mary Holliman of Salem.
Mr. Koon was preceded in death by his father, Jake Koon; and a daughter, Sonya R. Koon.
Services were Saturday, Feb. 22 at Boyd Funeral Home in Salem with the Rev. William McAlpin and the Rev. Darrell Clarke officiating, followed by burial in Tyner's Chapel Cemetery.
Johnson
Jimmy Earl "Coach" Johnson, 63, of Winamac, Ind., formerly of Crittenden County, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003 at his home.
A member of Ora Gospel Chapel Church, Mr. Johnson was employed at Winamac Coil Spring Co. Kewanna, as an oven operator. He had been employed at Winamac Steel Co. as a furnace operator for 20 years. He also had been employed by Joy Manufacturing as a core driller.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Shirley M. Meister Johnson; three sons, Jimmy J. Johnson of Austin, Texas, Jerry L. Johnson of Winamac and Arthur Jay Johnson of Winamac; two sisters, Connie Hunt of Marion, Ky., and Anna Glore of Punta Gorda, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a brother. His parents were Sylvan and Hildred Poindexter Johnson.
Services were Wednesday, Feb. 15 at Frain Mortuary, with Arlin Perry officiating, followed by burial in St. Jacob Cemetery in North Judson.
Curnel
Zelma L. Curnel, 82, of Paris, Tenn., formerly of Lola, Ky., passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at Henry County Medical Center.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Amvets Post 217, a Mason and a member of Eastwood Church of Christ in Paris.
Survivors include his wife, Earnestine Curnel of Paris; former wife, Margaret Black Curnel; four sons, Alton L. Curnel of Scottsborough, Ala., Stan Curnel of Hartsville, Ala., Robert Curnel of Plano Texas and Melvin Curnel of Decatur, Ala.; one daughter, Patti Curnel of Wylie, Texas; one brothers, Lawrence Curnel of Fort Smith, Ark.; one sister, Mildred Lockhart of Paducah; one half-brother,Guthrie Brooks of Lola, Ky.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Danny Curnel; one daughter, Julia Curnel; one sister and one half-brother. His parents were Lawrence and Gertrude Davidson Curnel.
Services were Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Boyd Funeral Home in Salem with the Rev. Rogers Banks officiating, followed by burial in Lola Cemetery.
Guess
Shirley Guess, 64, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at her home.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church and Marion Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Guess of Marion; two sons, Thomas Guess Jr. of Cape Coral, Fla., and Chris Guess of Huntingdon, Tenn.; one daughter, Sandy Urbanowski of Marion; and eight grandchildren.
Mrs. Guess was preceded in death by a sister. Her parents were Jess W. and Helen Ruth Reno.
Eastern Star Rites were Thursday, Feb. 13. Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 14 at Boyd Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Morrow officiating. Burial was in Pinckneyville Cemetery.

Riley
Lela T. Wheeler Riley, 88, of Marion, passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 at Crittenden Hospital.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church, and a member of the Eastern Star-Salem Lodge for 60 years.
Survivors include two sons, James Ray Wheeler of Crown Point, Ind., and Larry Wheeler of Marion; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Wheeler; a son, Oynaul Wheeler; and two sisters. Her parents were Lee and Ruby Ladd Loftis.
Eastern Star rites were Saturday, Feb. 8 at Boyd Funeral Home in Salem. Services were Sunday, Feb. 9 at the funeral home with the Rev. A.C. Hodge officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery.
Crawford
James Herman Crawford, 79, of Marion, passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at Salem Springlake Care Center.
He was a member and deacon at Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church and was retired from Moore's Business Forms.
Mr. Crawford is survived by his wife, Mary Francis Crawford of Marion; two daughters, Dottie Bacon of Eddyville and Mary Julia Nolen of McKenzie, Tenn.; two sons, Jerry L. Crawford of Paducah and James Robert Crawford of Salem; two sisters, Addie Crawford of Salem and Thelma Miller of Seaside, Calif.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 16 at Gilbert Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Lee Hill officiating, followed by burial in Lewis Cemetery.
Williams
EDDYVILLE, Ky. - Marie Williams, 80, of Eddyville passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at her home.
Mrs. Williams was a housewife and member of Princeton Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, William E. Williams; two sons, William H. Williams and David Williams, both of Lyon county; two daughters, Charlotte Gregory and Beverly Dunning, both of Lyon County; one brother, James McGee of Lexington, Ky.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother. Her parents were Marvin D. and Grace Powell McGee.
Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 16, at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel in Eddyville with Larry Harris officiating. Burial was in Saratoga Church Cemetery in Lyon County.
