Virginia Lois Gregory, 90, of Murray, formerly of Marion, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at her home.
A member of Marion Christian Church, she held a bachelor's degree from University of Kentucky and a master's degree from Vanderbilt University. She served as librarian at Crittenden County High School for many years, and retired as librarian at the reference library at Murray State University.
She is survived by three sons, Jim, Richard and John Gregory, all of Marion; one daughter, Rose Gregory Phillips of Paducah; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Gregory; one daughter, Lucy Lee Quertermous; and a grandson, John D. Quertermous. Her parents were William and Mary Lee Sullenger.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at Gilbert Funeral Home with the Rev. David Winders officiating. Burial in Mapleview Cemetery.
Leach
Bill W. Leach, 53, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at his farm in Pope County, Ill.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a retired chiropractor.
There will be no visitation or funeral. A private graveside service was held for family only.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the United Methodist Church of Glendale, Ill.
Cruce
Thelma Brown Cruce, 89, of Marion, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center.
She is survived by three sons, Richard and Gary Cruce, both of Marion, and Donald Cruce of Pecos, N.M.; two sisters, Ophelia Johnson of Marion and Miriam Brown of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers, J.T. and Doyle Brown, both of Evansville, Ind.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Cruce; son, Eddie Cruce; a sister and a grandson.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15 at Gilbert Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Franklin officiating. Burial in Mapleview Cemetery.
Gunderson
Eula Agnes Gunderson, 86, of Plymouth, Mich., formerly of Marion, passed away recently.
Survivors include three daughters, Euna Gallop of Plymouth, Mich., Shirley Herrin of Sturgis and Barbara Williams of Powell, Tenn.; one son, Bennett Turley of Plymouth, Mich.; and 12 grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday, Jan. 14 at Mapleview Cemetery. Arrangements by Gilbert Funeral Home.
McKinney
Peggy McKinney, 63, of Kuttawa, passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2003 at her home.
She was a nurse's aide at McKinney Nursing Home and a member of Suwanee Furnace Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Henry Turley and Willis R. Melander Jr., both of Kuttawa; four daughters, Dorothy Creekmur and Suzie Pierce, both of Eddyville, Denise Turley of Fredonia, Kim Picker of Kuttawa; two sisters, Nola Sue Lessard of Fredonia and Dorothy Neeble of Waterloo, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Her parents were Earnest Boswell and Betty Margaret Peek Boswell.
Services were Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville with the Rev. Jimmy Wilson and the Rev. Ronnie Hooks officiating. Burial in Hebron Cemetery in Lyon County.
Clark
Pauline Clark, 78, - of Marion, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2003 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center.
She attended Union Baptist Church.
Mrs. Clark is survived by two daughters, Pam Enoch and Faye Black, both of Marion; three sons, Donnie Clark of Nashville, Tenn., Tony Clark of Marion and David Clark of Shawneetown, Ill.; two sisters, Iva Robertson of Marion and Rowena Patterson of Evansville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, S.T. Clark, and a sister. Her parents were James and Lanie Conger.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at Gilbert Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial at Mapleview Cemetery.
Mecham
Mary Mecham, 77, of Kuttawa, formerly of Lake City, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 in Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton.
She was a retired riverboat cook for Fer River Company in New Orleans and was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church in Grand Rivers.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Wendel of Kuttawa and Brenda Dust of Lake City; - two sisters, Dorothy Border of Orion, Ill., and Martha Border of Bettendorf, Iowa; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Roy Mecham; two sons, Revis Mecham and Roy Mecham; two brothers and a sister. Her parents were Revis Clyde Stokes and Opal Irene Jennings Stokes.
Services were Sunday, Jan. 5 at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel in Eddyville with the Rev. Jim Keegan and the Rev. Robert Hughes officiating. Burial was at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Newcom
Velma Lee Newcom, 77, of Marion, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 at Crittenden Hospital.
She is survived by three sons, Doyle Newcom of Oklahoma City, Okla., Tom Newcom of Livermore and Danny Newcom of Marion; two brothers, Jim and Joe Robertson, both of Marion; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Newcom; two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Gilbert Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial in Mapleview Cemetery.
Childress
Verna Childress, 85, of Princeton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
A homemaker, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Carlyn C. Childress, and a grandson, Timmy Son. Her parents were John D. Thomas and Mary Belle Dearing Thomas.
Survivors include a son, Gary Childress of Hopkinsville; two daughters, Glenda Osborne of Princeton, and Sue Son of Madisonville; two brothers, Haydon Boyd of Livingston County, and Pat Boyd of Caldwell County; two sisters, Doris Boyd and Odell Hopper, both of Princeton; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton, with the Rev. Bobby Jackson Sr. and the Rev. David Simpson officiating. Burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Hopper
James E. Hopper Sr., 84, of Uniontown, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.
Mr. Hopper served in the 1st Armored Division in World War II. He was a member of Uniontown Veterans of Foreign Wars and Uniontown Baptist Church. He retired from Lock & Dam #50 in Marion in 1977.
Survivors include his wife, Imelda McDowell Hopper; three sons, James E. Hopper Jr. of Metropolis, Ill., Stephen Kyle Hopper of Calhoun and John Cabot Hopper of Louisville; one sister, Fredia Rakestraw of Morganfield; three brothers, Marvin Hopper of Uniontown, Junior Hopper of Wheatcroft, and Bobby Hopper of Equality, Ill; two grandchildren; one great-granchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services was Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with Brother Jim Adams officiating. Burial in Odd Fellow Cemetery.
