Funeral services for Ruby Shewmaker, 98, of Marion, were held Dec. 20 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Pastor Jeff Williams and Pastor Joe Blagg officiated. Burial was in Love Cemetery.
Shewmaker passed away Dec. 18 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center. She was a member of New Covenant of Fellowship Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister; and five brothers. Her parents were Marion E. Shewmaker and Lula Martin Shewmaker.
Toth
SALEM, Ky. - Beulah C. Toth, 97, passed away Dec. 22, 2003 at Salem Springlake Care Center. Graveside services will be held Dec. 27, 2003 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Rev. Herbert Alexander officiating.
Surviving are a granddaughter, Margie Patterson Lake; a great-grandson; and two great-great-grandchildren, all of Monroe, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Albert Patterson, Sr. and John Toth; and a son, James Albert Patterson, Jr.. Her parents were Raymond and Maggie Belt.
Coffield
Venna L. Coffield, 98, of Marion, passed away Dec. 16, 2003 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center.
She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church, was a graduate of West Kentucky State College in Frankfort and taught school in Crittenden County for 41 years.
Surviving are two nieces, Gladys Joseph of Washington, D.C., and Doris Buckley of Springfield, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Lenna Coffield.
Funeral services were Dec. 22 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Dottie Bacon officiating. Burial was in Lewis Cemetery.
Starnes
JACKSONVILLE, Miss. - Albert Walker Starnes, Sr., 67, passed away Dec. 18, 2003.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Postal Service and was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #4548.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Judi Starnes of Jacksonville; a son, Al Starnes of Marion; four daughters, Debbie Crum, Karen Reed, Kay Baize and Billie Jo Loftus; a step-sister Roberta Cates; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Dec. 20, in the chapel of Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
Walton
Funeral services for Catherine Walton, 67, of Marion, were held Dec. 22, 2003 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Phillips officiated. Burial was in Hurricane Cemetery.
Walton was a member of New Life Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Andy Walton of Marion and Roger Dale Walton of Paducah; a daughter, Betty L. Stone of Marion; three sisters, Minnie Lane of Marion, Dorothy Henson of Marion and Grace Wyatt of Jefferson, Ind.; a brother, Delmer Riley of Marion; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Travis
Shirley Travis, 81, of Marion, passed away Dec. 15, 2003 at St. John's Mercy Hospital in Pacific, Mo. Funeral services were Dec. 19 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Martin of Marion and Clara Nance of Pacific, Mo.; two sisters, Lucille Ainsworth of Moffat, Colo., and Lois Self of McMinniville, Tenn.; a brother, Frank Melton of Martinez, Ga.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Mildred Ruth Melton.
Featherston
TAYLOR, Texas - Barbara Lou Featherston, 75, formerly of Mexico, Ky., passed away Dec. 15, 2003 at her home. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Taylor, Texas.
Survivors include her husband, Billy R. Featherston of Taylor; three sons, Billy R. Featherston, Jr., of Buchanan Dam, Texas, Robert Bruce Featherston of California and Ronald Brian Featherston of Minnesota; and several grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Avery and Christine Tabor.
Funeral services will be held Dec. 19 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Archie Brock officiating. Burial will be in Mexico Cemetery.
Skees
PRINCETON, Ky. - Louise C. Skees, 66, passed away Dec. 11, 2003 at Crittenden Hospital. She was a housewife and member of Gospel Temple Pentecostal Church in Princeton.
Funeral services were held Dec. 15 at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton with Bro. Mark Engler and Bro. Denzil Sizemore officiating. Burial was in Fredonia Cemetery.
Skees is survived by her husband, James M. Skees; two sons, Timmy Myers of Henderson and Michael Skees of Mexico; two daughters, Rachel Wilson and Libby Myers, both of Princeton; a brother, Rex McDaniel of Princeton; three sisters, Gertrude Gray, Jean Dorris and Christine Potter, all of Princeton; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Roy Myers; a daughter, Becky Walls; a great-grandson, Logan Murphy; three brothers, Russell McDaniel, Charles McDaniel and Louard McDaniel; and three sisters, Myrtle Gillian, Tyline Moore and Arnella Gillian. Her parents were Cordie Cook and Camella Jones McDaniel.
Gipson-Stoner
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Susan Denise "Toni" Gipson-Stoner, 38, passed away Dec. 7, 2003 at United Medical Center-West.
She was born in Marion and had lived in Cheyenne for eight years.
She is survived by a daughter, Devin Lewis; her father, Stanley Gipson; her mother, Marilyn Shewmaker; two brothers, Michael Gipson and Greg Gipson; and a sister Loetta Sill, all of Kentucky.
Cremation took place through Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes in Cheyenne.
Bass
SMITHLAND, Ky. - Encil Bass, 78, of Smithland, passed away Dec. 10, 2003 at Lourdes Hospital. He was an Army veteran serving in World War I.
Survivors include a brother, Carl L. Bass of Bandana, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie J. Bass and Mattie L. Cook Bass; and two brothers, Willie T. Bas and Lonnie Hodge.
A memorial service was held Dec. 12 at Boyd Funeral Home in Salem. Burial was in Tyner's Chapel Cemetery.
Boyd
EDDYVILLE, Ky. - Jerline Joyce Boyd, 65, passed away Dec. 5, 2003 at Caldwell County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Dec. 6 at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville with Rev. Joe Farless and Rev. Terry Davis officiating. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery in Lyon County.
Boyd was a retired surgical technician for Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton with 45 years of service and was a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Lyon County.
Surviving are a daughter, Beth Pierce of Dawson Springs; two brothers, Goble Joyce of Marion and Art Joyce of Eddyville; two sisters, Betty Kemper of Kuttawa and Faye Stinnett of Dycusburg; and one granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Linzy; two brothers, Randy Joyce and Owen Joyce; and her parents, Lelan Joyce and Stella Peek Joyce.
