MIDLAND, Mich. - Laverne McGrew, 87, formerly of Smithland, passed away Aug. 26, 2003 at Brittney Manor Nursing Home.
Surviving are a son, Roger McGrew of Midland, Mich.; and a sister, Maude Proffitt of Paducah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George N. McGrew.
Funeral services were Aug. 29 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Grimes officiating. Burial was in McMurray Chapel Cemetery.
Guess
SALINE, Mich. - Barbara Ruth Guess, 54, passed away Aug. 3, 2003 at her home. She worked for 20 years in public relations for General Motors. She was of Catholic faith and ws a graduate of Washtenaw Community College.
She is survived by her husband, John Richard Guess; three sons, Aaron Burton of Ypsilanti Township, Mich., Jason Burton of Ann Arbor and Ryan Guess of Saleine, Mich.; her father, Richard Williams of Longboat Key, Fla.; four sisters, Judith Williams, Debbie Bart and Melissa Alexander, all of New York and Patty Wadors of California; a brother, Rick Williams of Massachusetts; her mother-in-law, Martha Guess of Tolu; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Williams; a sister, Cynthia McClellen; a brother, Jeffrey Williams.
A Mass of the Christian Burial was held Aug. 6 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Saline.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society.
Comerford
SITKA, Alaska - Joan Terry Comerford, 87, passed away Aug. 31, 2003. Born on her family's farm in Crittenden County, she was educated at Western Kentucky University and taught in the public schools of Crittenden County, Tenn., Arizona and from 1946 until retirement in Alaska. From 1955 through 1960, she was director of curriculum for the Alaska Territorial Department of Education.
She is survived by her brother, T. Rankin Terry, of Ft. Myers, Florida, two nieces, two nephews, one grand niece and one grand nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin A.J. Comerford, her parents, W.L. and Sadie Rankin Terry, a brother, William Lester Terry, Jr., and two sisters, Virginia Wineland and Katherine Moore.
A memorial service is planned at the Haines Presbyterian Church in Haines, Alaska on Sept. 6.

Biggs
Martha Louise Biggs, 81, of Marion, passed away Aug. 29, 2003 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center. She was a member of the Marion United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri and attended William Woods College. She retired after 33 years from the Farm Home Administration in Marion.
Surviving are her husband, Eddie Biggs of Marion; a daughter, Nancy Brewer of Atlanta; a son, Gary Biggs of Louisville; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daisy and Hobart Franklin.
Funeral services were Aug. 31 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Garvey officiating. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.
Tidwell
Catherine Alexis Tidwell Thompson, the stillborn infant of Sabrina Tidwell of Marion and Shane Thompson of Dixon, passed away Sept. 1, 2003 at Crittenden Hospital.
She is survived by three sisters, Christina Tidwell, Cassandra Tidwell and Catlin Tramel, all of Marion; a grandmother, Gloria Tidwell of Marion; grandparents Bonnie and Frank Thomas of Dixon; and great-grandmother, Dorothy Binkley of Marion.
Graveside services were Sept. 2 at Freedom Cemetery with Rev. Jack Dodson officiating. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
McClure
Magdalene McClure, 75, of Marion, passed away Sept. 2, 2003 at Livingston Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Sept. 6 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Phillips will officiate.
McClure was a member of Life in Christ Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Jane Hagerty of Lake Forest, Calif.; three sons, Lon D. Farley of Sturgis, Danny R. Farley of Nashville and Tom R. Farley of Marion; two stepdaughters, Connie Vaughn and Bonnie Morris, both of Marion; and a grandson.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Ray Collins, Harold Collins and Franklin Collins, all of Arizona, Joe Collins of Kentucky and Frankie Ramsey of Tennessee.
Duncan
Robert C. Duncan, 70, of Marion, passed away Aug. 24, 2003 at his home. He was a retired carpenter.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Duncan of Marion; a son, Marlon Duncan of Eddyville; two daughters, Sheryl Vickery of Princeton and Lisa Leslie of Princeton; two brothers, Bill Duncan of Hobart, Ind., and Donald Duncan of Marion; three sisters, Mary Cloyd of Princeton, Lucy Traywick and Eula Guess of Valparaiso, Ind.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Charlie and Mary Alma Duncan; a son, Bobby Lynn Duncan; a grandson, Jonathan Robert Leslie; and three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held Aug. 27 at Seven Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Phillips and Rev. Donnie Howton officiating. Burial was in Dycusburg Cemetery.
Jones
Thomas F. Jones, 63, of Marion, passed away Aug. 22, 2003 at Western Baptist Hospital. He was a retired master sergeant with over 23 years as a recruiter in the Army National Guard and a past commander of VFW Post 1191 in Paducah.
He is survived by a sister, Betty Cloyd of Lake Station, Ind.
Graveside services were held Aug. 26 at Mapleview Cemetery. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

SALEM, Ky. - Ovelia Fryar, 90, passed away Aug. 23, 2003 at Crittenden Hospital. She was a member of Old Salem Baptist Church.
Funeral services were Aug. 25 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Thurman officiating. Burial was in Old Salem Cemetery.
Fryar is survived by two sons, Billy W. Fryar of Eddyville and Charles R. Fryar of Princeton; a daughter, Geneva Threlkeld of Salem; a foster son, Calvin DeBoe of Salem; a sister, Lima Lynn of Evansville; a brother, Roy McDaniel of Arkansas; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Dalton
Funeral services for Reba E. Dalton, 89, of Marion, were Aug. 23, 2003 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Phillips and Rev. Bruce Watts officiated. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.
Dalton passed away Aug. 20 at Calvert City Convalescent Center. She was a member of Barnett Chapel Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mildred Oliver of Calvert City and Bettie Stucker of Paducah; two stepsons, Charles Dalton, Jr., of Metropolis and Galen Dalton of Harrisburg, Ill.; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Marion Jesse Moore and Charles Dalton, Sr.; a son, John Wilburn Moore; six sisters and five brothers.

Robinson
BURNA, Ky. - Funeral services for Joe Frank Robinson, 85, will be held at 2 p.m., Aug. 28, 2003 at Boyd Funeral Home. Rev. A.C. Hodge and Rev. Jim Wring will officiate. Burial will be in Hampton Cemetery.
Robinson passed away Aug. 26 at Western Baptist Hospital. He was a member of North Livingston Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vivian Sue Jameson Robinson of Burna; two daughters, Susie Malone of Muncie, Ind., and Vicki Lovell of Reidland; a son, Tommy Robinson of Hampton; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Ladd and Lidah Wright Robinson; and a sister.
