Nina Ruth O'Leary, 91, of Marion, passed away July 18, 2003 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center. She was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane James of Marion; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin O'Leary; five brothers, Rueben Peek, Robert Peek, Richard Peek, Bill Peek and Hubert Peek. Her parents were Ed and Birdie Travis Peek.
Funeral services were held July 20 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Clarke and Rev. Max Hansen officiating. Burial was in Dycusburg Cemetery.
Shaffer
Funeral services for Louise Shaffer, 73, of Marion, were held July 18, 2003 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Shaffer passed away July 16 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
Survivors include four daughters, Winona Wilson of Russellville, Ala., Debbie Rice, Janice Johnson and Mollie Asbridge, all of Marion; two sons, John Singleton and Bobby Singleton, both of Marion; three stepdaughters, Sue Shaffer of Marion, Penny McDaniel of Paducah and Peggy James of Salem; three stepsons, Pete Shaffer and Steve Shaffer, both of Marion, Eddie Shaffer of Smithland; two sisters, Suzanne James and Bonnie Martin, both of Marion; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Singleton; her husband, Jim Shaffer; a step son, Neal Shaffer; and a brother.
Vaughn
Willard Vaughn, 56, of Marion, passed away July 14, 2003 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center. Vaughn was a common fixture on benches outside the Crittenden County Courthouse for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Freda Vaughn of Marion; two brothers, Doug Vaughn and Daniel Vaughn.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., July 17 at Gilbert Funeral Home with burial in Mapleview Cemetery.
Yates
SALEM, Ky. - Lucy Hardin Yates, 89, passed away July 15, 2003 at Crittenden Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters, Earnestine "Teana" Harshaw of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Dora Dean Parris of Salem; and 19 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Emma Cobb Hardin; three sisters; a grandson; three great-grandchildren; and a daughter, Frances Parrish.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., July 17 at Boyd Funeral Home with Roger Holloman officiating. Burial will be in Loveless Chapel Cemetery.
James
SALEM, Ky. - Gilbert James, 68, passed away July 11, 2003 at Deaconess Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville. He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include three sons, Greg James, Jamie James and Bobby James, all of Salem; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Guess James; and two sons, Kenny James and Roger James. His parents were William L. and Lula Hicks James.
Funeral services were July 14 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Cortis Hill officiating. Burial was in Tyner's Chapel Cemetery.
Lee
SALEM, Ky. - Graveside services for Velda Lee, 85, were held July 12, 2003 at Salem Cemetery.
Lee, who attended Pleasant Grove General Baptist Church, passed away July 8 at Crittenden Hospital.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Lee Byars of Marathon, Fla.; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Preacher" Lee and three sisters.
Boyd Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Boitnott
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Martha N. Boitnott, 84, formerly of Fredonia, passed away July 9 at Montgomery County Nursing Home. She was a retired telephone operator and a member of Fredonia First Baptist Church.
She is survived by a sister, Alice Halley of Clarksville; three nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Boitnott; her parents, Clarence Rush and Lena Yates Hughes; a sister, Helen Hodge; and a nephew.
Funeral services were held July 15 at Morgan Funeral Home in Princeton with Dr. Jerrell White officiating. Burial was in Fredonia Cemetery.

FRANCES, Ky. - Paul L. Stone, 84, passed away June 28, 2003 at Lourdes Hospital. He was a member of Frances Baptist Church and the AFL CIO Steelworkers Union.
He was a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Ruth Stone of Frances; four sons, Paul Monnie Stone of Frances, Wesley Stone of Fredonia, Jerry Dale Stone and Max Evans Stone, both of Marion; four sisters, Adelaide Dorf of Florida, Phyllis Kuxhaus of California, Inez Peek of Indiana and Dottie Helen Simpson of Illinois; five grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Lee and Lula Harpending Stone; a brother; a sister; a half-brother; and a half-sister.

Norma Jean Wise Binkley, 58, of Marion, passed away July 5, 2003 at Crittenden Hospital.
She was a member of Sugar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Doug Binkley of Marion; her mother, Mildred Wise of Marion; a daughter, Joanna Lynn Heady of Marion; five brothers, Stephen Michael Wise of Campbellsville, Gary Lee Wise of St. Louis, Eddie Earl Wise of Detroit, Paul Douglas Wise of Washington, D.C., and Darrell Wayne Wise of Huntsville, Ala.; a half brother, Willard Wise of Normal, Ill.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

CRETE, IL - Donal F. Joiner, 70, formerly of Lyon County, passed away June 26, 2003 at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, Ill.
He was a member of Victory Hill Baptist Church in Steger, Ill. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Local #1252 International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and Blacksmiths.
He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Joiner; two sons, Don Joiner and Ron Joiner, all of Crete, Ill.; a brother, Wilson Joiner of Eddyville; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Brown Joiner; a daughter, Patty LaJean Joiner; and his parents.
Funeral services were held July 1 at Hebron Baptist Church in Lyon County with Rev. Gates Bowman officiating. Burial was in Asbridge Cemetery in Crittenden County. Boyd Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
