CALDWELL COUNTY, Ky. - Mary Florence Spurlock, 87, passed away Nov. 3, 2005 at Lourdes Hospital. She was a retired seamstress from Princeton Hosiery Mill and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Funeral services were Nov. 6 at Morgan's Funeral Home with Bro. John Benton and Bro. Jerry Thurman officiating. A eulogy was delivered by Daniel Cook. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Sue Dunbar of Caldwell County and Sylvia Thurman of Crittenden County; a brother, Kenneth Cotton of Princeton; two sisters, Eula Mae Forsythe of Caldwell County and Hattie Jean Haney of Princeton; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Ray Spurlock; five brothers, Clint, Homer, Sam, Jim and Henry Cotton; and a great-granddaughter, Grace Thurman. Her parents were Bina and Ambie Steger Cotton.
Newcom
LAPORT, Ind. - Delmer Lee Newcom, 73, passed away Nov. 2, 2005. He was born in Crittenden County and lived in Hobart, Ind., before moving to Laport. He was a Korean War veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Newcom; a brother, Glenn Newcom of Louisville; three sisters, Mary K. Newcom Chandler of Sturgis, Elwanda Newcom McDowell of Marion and Janey Newcom Syers of High Ridge, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Newcom and Leonard Newcom; and his parents, Joseph and Wanda Marvel Newcom.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Brown
Elliott James Robert Brown, infant son of Shelbie Caraway Newberry and James Brown of Marion, passed away Nov. 1, 2005 of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Surviving in addition to his parents are paternal grandparents Michael Medina and Sheila Fraliex; paternal great-grandmother Mary Louise Brown; two brothers, Michael Brown of Princeton and Dustin Caraway of Dawson Springs; three sisters, Robbie Caraway of Princeton and Justice Brown and Monica Brown, both of Princeton.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Robbie Caraway; maternal great-grandparents Dorothy and Shelburn Caraway; and paternal great-grandfather Mitchell Henry Brown.
Services were Nov. 5, 2005 at Seven Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Lonnie Lott officiating. Burial was in Asbridge Cemetery.
Conger
Roberta Scott Conger, 92, of Marion, passed away Nov. 1, 2005 at McKendree Village Healthcare in Hermitage, Tenn.
Graveside services were Nov. 4 at Mapleview Cemetery with Rev. Cortis Hill officiating. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are three daughters, Phyllis Wood and Carolyn Guess, both of Springfield, Tenn., and Diana Trask of Marion; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Lee and George Scott; her husband, Frank Conger; and a son, Frankie Conger.

Lasher
SALEM, Ky. - Horace Denton Lasher, 85, passed away Oct. 29, 2005. He was mayor of Salem in the 1980s, leading improvements that included sewer and water systems and street signs. He was a member of Hampton United Methodist Church and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He grew up in Kentucky but lived n Cleveland, Ohio for two decades where he owned a television business. He opened a television business in Salem as well.
He held a expert class ham radio license and received his Worked All States award in 1994. He communicated in Morse code with people around the world.
He is survived by his wife, Inez; two daughters, Nola (Bob) Melcher of Boulder, Colo., and Rose (Ted) Czupik of Cleveland, Ohio; a son, Steven (Bonnie) Lasher of Jeffersonville, Ind.; five grandsons, Ted Jr., Andy and Patrick Czupik and Dwight and Grant Melcher; three great-granddaughters ; and two step great-granddaughters; and a brother, Alvin Lasher of Akron, Ohio.
His parents were Alva Hampton Lasher and Alvin Lasher

Services were Nov. 1, 2005 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Lynn Farlee officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery.
Kirk
TILINE, Ky. - Stephanie Peek Kirk, 53, passed away Oct. 28 in a car accident on U.S. 60 near Smithland. She was a member of Groves Chapel Methodist Church and was a senior English teacher and writing resource coordinator for Livingston County. She was co-director of Purchase Area Writing Project and past president of the Kentucky Council of Teachers of English.
Surviving are her husband, Larry Kirk; a daughter, Rachel. (David) Gavin of Lexington; a son, Drew Kirk of Morrisville, N.C.; a sister, Valerie Albert of Woodstock, Ga.; three brothers, Richard Peek, Jr., and Stuart Peek, both of Tiline, and Monty Peek of Ocean Springs, Miss.; her mother, Barbara L. Peek of Tiline.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Peek, Sr.
Services were Oct. 31 at Boyd Funeral Home. Rev. Chuck Ladd and Rev. Andy Bryan officiated.

Shouse
ROBARDS, Ky. - Dr. W. Bennett Shouse, 61, formerly of Marion, passed away Oct. 27, 2005 at his home.
He was a retired veterinarian who had an office in Marion for many years.
He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Reyes of Lakewood, Colo., and Sunny Osborne of Ledbetter; a son, Scott Shouse of Costa Rica; a sister, Evelyn Meacham of Sturgis; two brothers, Coleman Shouse of Greenville, S.C., and Stephen Shouse of Sturgis; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for a later date.

Cummings
SMITHLAND, Ky. - Services for Jessica Cummings, 24, were Nov. 1 at Boyd Funeral Home. Rev. Phillip Sanders officiated. Burial was in Hampton Cemetery.
She passed away Oct. 28 in a car accident on u.S. 60 near Smithland.
Surviving are her parents, Valerie Farris of Smithland and Dennis Cummings of Paducah; two children, Nathan McDowell of Reidland and Kyren Rozwalka of Marion; a sister, Lora Wood of Smithland; maternal grandparents Robert and Alice Walker of Hampton; and paternal grandparents Sammy and Brenda Pollard of Dawson Springs.
Manning
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. Chris Manning, 48, passed away Oct. 25, 2005 at North Western Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He was a native of Greenville N.C.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, an employee of Zeiss Meditec in medical equipment sales. He received a bachelor of science from East Carolina State University. He was a board member of the Pregnancy Support Center, member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes where he was secretary and a former member of the Greenville N.C., JCs.
He is survived by his wife, Michele Ramage Manning, formerly of Marion; a daughter, Shelby Manning of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a son, Davis Manning of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, J.B. and Helen Ramage of Murfreesboro, formerly of Marion; numerous cousins and aunts.
Services were Oct. 30 at Calvary Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.
Memorials may be made to the Pregnancy Support Center in Murfreesboro.
Lanham
LEXINGTON, N.C. - Graveside services for James Franklin "Jim" Lanham, 63, were Oct. 21, 2005 at Mapleview Cemetery. Rev. Jonathan Davis officiated.
Lanham passed away Oct. 18 at Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was an employee of Cardinal Container of Lexington, N.C., and was a member of Servant's Heart Ministries. He served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Humphrey Lanham; his mother, Dorothy Lanham of Marion; six daughters, Stacey Flahardy of Henderson, Misty Fulk of Thomasville, N.C., Kathy Lanham of Lexington, N.C., Dawn-Dee Tracy and Tammy Marie Wolf, both of Carmi, Ill., and Shannon Snipes of Kansas City, Mo.; five sons, Joseph Franklin Lanham, Anthony Eugene Lanham, James Matthew Lanham, Steven Wayne Lanham and Richard Allen Tracy, all of Lexington, N.C.; a sister, Jeanie Harris of Marion; four brothers, Joseph Lanham, Jerry Lanham, Ricky Lanham and Billy Lanham, all of Marion; 33 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
