Funeral services for Verna Hardesty, 82, were held Sept. 9, 2005 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev. Cortis Hill officiated. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.
Hardesty passed away Sept. 6, 2005 at Crittenden County Health and Rehab. She was of Baptist faith.
Surviving are a sister, Maggie Davidson of Marion; an aunt, Dorothy Paris of Marion; an uncle, Anus Hunt of Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Boss" Hardesty.
Fern
CALVERT CITY, Ky. - Jim Fern, 72, passed away Sept. 7, 2005 at his home. He served in the U.S. Army and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Calvert City, Kentucky.
He began his teaching career in Marion in 1956. In 1958, he was appointed as Music Director for Hopkinsville schools. He was the State Supervisor of Music from 1966-1967. In the following years, he taught band at Reidland and Benton middle schools. He had conducted various church choirs in the western Kentucky area, was a KMEA adjudicator and guest conductor for many All-District bands and recognized as Kentucky's Outstanding Young Educator.
He served as the Executive Secretary of Kentucky Music Educators Association for 32 years. During his tenure with KMEA, he received the KMEA Distinguished Service Award as well as the Friend of Music Award.
Fern served as broker of Fern Real Estate and two independent insurance agencies. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Coakley Fern; a son, Bob Fern of Florida; a son, Jay Fern of Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Martha Fern of Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandsons.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Calvert City First Baptist Church Building Fund, Calvert City Convalescent Center or the Jim Fern/KMEA Music Education Scholarship, KMEA, P. O. Box 1058, Richmond, KY 40476-1058.
A memorial service will be held at Calvert City First Baptist Church at 11 a.m., Sept. 17.
Brannam
LONG GROVE, Ill. - Martha Brannam, 86, formerly of Salem, passed away Sept. 3, 2005 at Alden Nursing Home. She was a long-time member of Emmaus Baptist Church and a 25-year employee of Sears in Chicago.
Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Brannam of Barrington, Ill., Clinton Brannam of Mountain Home, Ark., and Monroe Brannam of Lyons, Ill.; two daughters, Kay Gorman of Johnsburg, Ill., and Golda Riley of Marion; a sister, Thelma Barnes of Salem; 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ralph Brannam; a son; a grandson; three brothers and four sisters.
Services were Sept. 10 at Boyd Funeral Home. Rev. Max Hansen officiated and burial in Salem Cemetery.
Orenduff
TUCSON, Ariz. - James Randell Orenduff, 79, passed away Sept. 7, 2005. He was born in Crittenden County and moved to Tucson in 1956. He served in World War II and was retired from San Manuel Copper Mine where he worked as an electrician and with their early computer systems.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn; a daughter, Sue; and sons Larry and Wayne; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and six sisters and two brothers of Marion.
Services were Sept. 12 in Tucson with burial in East Lawn Cemetery.
Gahagen
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - George Elmer Gahagen, 83, passed away Sept. 7, 2005 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center.
He was born in Crittenden County, graduated from Mattoon High School and retired from Arkla after 25 years of service. He was a member of Albright United Methodist Church and a 60- year member of the Wheatcroft Masonic Lodge #881.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Helene (Santy) Gahagen; a daughter, Joyce Silver of Evansville; three sons, Warren Silver, Jr., Terry Silver and Darce Silver, all of Evansville; two sisters, Ada White of Crittenden County and Geneva Franks of Sun City, Ariz.; a brother, Roy Gahagen of Crittenden County; and several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ella (Reynolds) Gahagen; a sister, Freda Moore; and a brother, Ernest Gahagen.
Services were Sept. 10, 2005 at Browning Funeral Home with burial at Sunset Memorial Park.

Moore
William Louis Moore, Sr., 83, of Marion, passed away Sept. 3, 2005 at Crittenden County Health and Rehab. For many years, Moore - known by many as Rev. Moore - operated Moore and Sons Little Plaza on Travis Street. He was a member of Sturgis Church of God in Christ.
Survivors include a son, William Moore, Jr. of Detroit, Mich.; three daughters, Denise Moore and Debra Stallworth of Detroit; four brothers, Frank "Buster" Moore of Marion, James Moore and Otis Moore both of Detroit and Bishop Allie Moore of Louisville; two sisters, Evelyn Bentley of Marion and Clara Nell Oats of Detroit; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry H. "Bud" and Melvina Turley Moore.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Sept. 10 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Elder Theodore Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Lewis Cemetery.
Pyle
Kathleen Pyle, 81, of Marion, passed away Aug. 30, 2005 at Crittenden County Health and Rehab.
She is survived by two sons, including Charles Johnson of Eddyville; and a daughter.
Services were Sept. 6 at Mapleview Cemetery.

Edwin Gerald Fritts, 58, of Marion, passed away Sept. 6, 2005 at Crittenden Hospital.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sept. 9 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev. Harold Grace will officiate with burial in Mapleview Cemetery.
Fritts attended Crooked Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Cindy Watson of Marion; two brothers, Ronnie Fritts of Marion and William Fritts of Newburgh, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Arflack
Wendell B. Arflack, 66, of Marion, passed away Sept. 4, 2005 in Lyon County. He was a member of Rosebud Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Arflack; two sons, Scott Arflack of Princeton and Greg Arflack, stationed with U.S. Army in Germany; a sister, Janet Thomas of Marion; two brothers, Fred Arflack of St. Clair, Mo., and Dan Arflack of Londell, Mo.; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Sarah Brown Arflack.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Sept. 8, 2005 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rosebud Cemetery. Rev. Tommie Brown will officiate.
