SALEM, Ky. - Funeral services for Velda Mae Watson Croft, 67, were Jan. 19, 2005 at Boyd Funeral Home. Rev. Herbert Alexander officiated. Burial was in Salem Cemetery.
Croft passed away Jan. 17 at Livingston Hospital. She was a member of Pleasant Grove General Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.
Surviving are three daughters, Janice Schweizer, Linda Harris and Anna Sue Harmon, all of Salem; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Croft; two brothers; and her parents, Ben and Nellie McElmurray Watson.
York
Corine York, 86, of Marion, passed away Jan. 18, 2005 at Lourdes Hospital. She was a member of Marion United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Robert O. "Buddy" York of Marion; three daughters, Mary Rose Clark and Donna K. Minton, both of Marion, and Sandy Newell of Madisonville; a son, Doyle Jennings of Marion; four sisters, Oma Lee Dixon of Marion, Mercedes Rayburn of Smithland, Gracie Hedgepath of Sturgis and Deanie Wallace of Marion; two brothers, Fred Dale Watson of Kansas and Donald Watson of Marion; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Regina Woodall; a sister, Velda Kelly; a brother, Robert Fritts; and her parents, Fred and Myrtie Conger Watson.
Funeral services will be Jan. 21 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. David Davis officiating. Burial will be in Mapleview Cemetery.
Morrow
LILLIAN, Ala. - Samuel Wilbern Morrow, 78, passed away Jan. 15, 2005 at Beverly Nursing Home in Foley, Ala. He was a native of Crittenden County and was retired from Whirlpool in Evansville, Ind. He was a past Master of the Masons and was a member of the Marion General Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife Wanda Morrow of Lillian; a son, Jarvis Wade Morrow of Henderson; a daughter, LaVon Bowen of Lexington; two sisters, Carolyn Gordon of Bowling Green and Pansy Strickland of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel H. and Mary Ruth Stephens Morrow; and a sister, Mary Sybil Hunt.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Elkton Baptist Church in Elkton, Ky.
Strong
Gyneth Rhea Strong, 88, of Marion, passed away Jan. 6, 2005 at Crittenden Hospital. She was a member of Deer Creek Baptist Church, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, Crittenden County Homemakers and retired from teaching after 28 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Sue Champion of Salem and Martha Glenn Smith of Newburgh, Ind.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Glenn Strong; a daughter, Donna Jean Strong; a brother, Billy Guess; and a sister, Marjorie Strong. Her parents were William Raymond and Suzanne Guess.
Services were Jan. 9 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. John East and Rev. Jamie Baker officiating. Burial was in Fredonia Cemetery.
Riley
BURNA, Ky. - Elizabeth L. Riley, 93, passed away Jan. 6, 2005 at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was a homemaker and former Avon representative. She was a charter member of Central Baptist Church in Burna.
Survivors include four daughters, Jackie Doom of Burna, Joretta Ramage of Hendron, Ann Wright of West Paducah and Shirley Gass of Lone Oak; a brother, Bennie McCandless of Cincinnati, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.V. "Tom" Riley; a son, Vernon Edwin "Jr." Riley; five brothers; a sister; and a great-granddaughter, Leigh Ann Riley. Her parents were Jesse and Lake Foster McCandless.
Services were Jan. 9 at Boyd Funeral Home with Bro. Russell Joiner officiating. Burial was in Hampton Cemetery.
Dycus
DYCUSBURG, Ky. - Funeral arrangements for Mabel Vinson Dycus, 85, will be held at 1 p.m., Jan. 14, 2005 at Dycusburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Randell Rogers and Rev. Steve McVay officiating. Burial will be in Dycusburg Cemetery.
Dycus passed away Jan. 11 at Hilltop Nursing Home. She was a member of Dycusburg United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Gail Bannister of Dycusburg and Gina Russell of Clay; a son, William Dycus of Wytheville, Va.; a nephew, James H. Wiseman of Benton; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Dycus; and a sister, Helen Witt. Her parents were James A. and Laura Sadler Vinson.
Gilson
SALEM, Ky. - Mary A. Gilson, 90, passed away Jan. 8, 2005 at Salem Springlake Care Center. She attended Ambassadors for Christ Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Shelia A. Lane of Marion; three sons, Harley Olson of Salem and Truman Olson and Andrew Olson, both of Yucaipa, Calif.; a brother, Bud Olson of Mora, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Truman M. Olson; and several brothers and sisters.
Graveside services will be held in the spring in Rolla, N.D.
Simpson
Elzie Eugene "Gene" Simpson, 93, of Marion, passed away Jan. 2, 2005 at his home. He was a member of Marion Masonic Lodge #256, Marion Baptist Church and the Shriners.
Surviving are a son Roger (Randa) Simpson of Marion; a grandson, Darrell (Joy Jean) Simpson of Henderson; a granddaughter Marcy (Mark) Herron of Bowling Green; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Tara Herron of Bowling Green.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Birdee Simpson. His parents were Henry and Bessie Simpson.
Funeral services were Jan. 4 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Brantley officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery.
Hill
Funeral services for Harold Hill, 84, of Marion, were Jan. 1, 2005 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Garvey officiating. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.
Hill passed away Dec. 30, 2004 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center. He was a member and elder of the former First Presbyterian Church in Marion and attended Marion United Methodist Church. He was a retired coach and school teacher in the Crittenden County School System and was a former school board member.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth N. Hill of Marion; three daughters, Carol Baughman of Frankfort, Betty Ingram of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Lucy Alvey of Tell City, Ind.; a brother, Harvey Hill of Mayfield; two nephews; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Miley and Leona Hill.
Vinson
Jerry Vinson, 63, of Caldwell County, passed away Jan. 2, 2005 at his home. He was the owner and operator of Vinson Logging for over 30 years.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Fox Vinson of Caldwell County; three sons, Mike Vinson of Crittenden County and Chris Vinson and Raymon Vinson, both of Caldwell County; two daughters, Jerilyn Vinson of Princeton and Robin Newill of Caldwell County; four sisters, Margaret Jewell Tooley of Evansville, Kathleen Oliver of Princeton, Jane Dorroh of Princeton and Janice Burkhart of Clarksville; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dixie DeAnn Vinson.
Services were Jan. 4 at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Mark Faughn and Rev. Dean Ray officiating. Burial was in Rowland Cemetery.
Rorer
McKENZIE, Tenn. - Thomas Phillip "Buddy" Rorer, 61, passed away Jan. 2, 2005 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Funeral services were Jan. 5 at Gallimore Funeral Home in Gleason, Tenn. A service was also held at Mexico Baptist Church Jan. 5 prior to burial in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Phillip Rorer and David Rorer, both of McKenzie; four brothers, Doug Rorer of DeSoto, Mo., Robert Deboe of Mexico, Ky., Kenneth Deboe of Lake Station, Ind., Don Deboe of Marion; two sisters, Phyllis Risner of Mexico, Ky., and Pauline Lee of Eddyville; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Ed Deboe. His parents were Henry Leonard and Anna Ruth Gilland Rorer.
