Funeral services for Carleen Massey Kemper, 88, of Frankfort, Ky., formerly of Burna were at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 3 at Boyd Funeral Home in Salem with Bro. James Oates officiating. Burial was in Dyer Hill Cemetery.
Kemper passed away at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at Livingston Hospital. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Burna and a former member of First Baptist Church in Frankfort, the Pollyanna School Class and a senior adult organization “OASIS” (Older Adults Still In Service) of First Baptist Church. She was a retired accountant for state government in Kentucky.
Survivors include sisters-in-law, Willie Massey of Burna and Imogene Massey of Decatur, Ala.; an aunt, Alberta Beggs of Smithland; a niece, Bridget Borden of Decatur, Ala; a nephew, Jack C. Massey Jr. of Indianapolis; several cousins; and a special friend, Patti Parker Gaines of Owenton, Ky.
Pallbearers were Kenny Hardin, Barry Chittenden, Douglas Black, Garry Chittenden, Don Phillips, and Lewis Pruitt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland W. Kemper; and brothers, Leon Massey and Jack C. Massey Sr.
Kemper was the daughter of Vernon and Burna Massey. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, P.O. Box 54, Burna, KY 42028.
Steward
Lorraine Marie Steward, 52, of Marion passed away at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at her home.
She was catholic.
Survivors include a daughter, Jamie Bass of LeClaire, Iowa; a son, Bradley Bass of LeClaire, Iowa; her father, Richard Arlan Cloose of Marion; threee sisters, Linda Pullins of DeMotte, Ind., Jay Wouldema of DeMotte, Ind., and Carrie Dailey of Lafayette, Ind; two brothers, Richard Michael Cloose of Fair Oaks, Ind., and Joe Cloose of Lake Village, Ind.; and a granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her mother, May Belle Koshney Cloose.
A memorial Service will be at a later date. Myers Funeral Home in Marion was in charge of arrangements.
Lemon
Jim Lemon, 82, of Frisco, Texas, formerly of Marion, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007 at Frisco.
He was a retired electrical engineer for the City of Hamilton, Ohio.
Survivors include a son, Mark Lemon of Gunter, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Pickens Lemon; his parents, Gillian and Rosa M. Gibson Lemon; a brother, Roy Lemon; and two sisters, Rose Lee Croft and Velda Simpkens.
Funeral services were Friday Dec. 28 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Mike Jones officiating. A private burial followed the service.
Brigance
Ruth Evelyn Brigance, 78, of Marion passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 at Crittenden Hospital.
She was a member of Marion Second Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star 135.
Survivors include her husband, Clyde A. Brigance of Marion; a step-daughter, Charlotte Ann Bishelli of Colorado; and a nephew, Mike Hayes of Marion.
Brigance was preceded in death by her parents, Atchison Frazer and Stella May Fritts Hayes.
Graveside services were Friday, Dec. 21 at Mapleview Cemetery in Marion with Rev. Danny Starrick officiating. Eastern Star services were held prior to burial at the funeral home.
Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion was in charge of arrangements.

Jones
Betty Lee Jones, 76, of Burna passed away at 5:20 a.m., Monday, Dec. 17, 2007 at Livingston Hospital.
She is survived by two sisters, Lynn Scarbrough of Burna and Patricia Hopkins of Ledbetter; one brother, Jerry Scarbrough of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.
Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Jones; a daughter, Debra Lynn Jones; a sister, Eula Belle Tramble; and a brother, David Scarbrough.
Graveside services were Wednesday, Dec. 19 at Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Allen Jones officiating.
Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem was in charge of arrangements.
Travis
Opal Rushing Travis, 69, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007 at Livingston Hospital.
She was a member of Glendale Baptist Church and Gideons International.
Survivors include her husband, Noble Travis of Marion; a son, David Scott of Marion; daughters Tina Crane of Florida and Tonya Utley of Morganfield; three brothers, Jimmy and Junior Rushing, both of Paducah, and Greg Crawford of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; three sisters, Ruth May of Paducah, Nancy Fern Jackson of Salem and Fay Tolley of Burna; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Travis was preceded in death by her parents, Coy Phillip and Rosa Lee Adams Rushing.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m, Wednesday, Dec. 19 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Kenny Downs, Rev. John Dunn and Rev. Gary Murray officiating. Burial was at Love Cemetery.

Chandler
Mary Katherine Newcom Chandler, 86, of Sturgis, passed away at 11:15 a.m., Thursday Dec. 13, 2007 at Crittenden Health & Rehab.
Chandler was a retired school teacher, life member of the VFW Auxiliary 5486 in Sturgis, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Marion for 55 years, a member of Baker Baptist Church for 35 years, and First Baptist Church in Sturgis for 20 years. During World War II, she worked at Servel in Evansville.
She is survived by two sons, Steven Chandler of Marion and Keith Chandler of Sturgis; two sisters, Elwanda McDowell of Marion and Janie Syers of High Ridge, Mo.; a brother, Glenn Newcom of Louisville; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Rudolph Chandler; her parents, Joe and Wanda Marvel Newcom; three brothers, J.L. Newcom, Willard Newcom, and Delmer Newcom.
Funeral services were Saturday Dec. 15, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Sturgis with Rev. Don Phelps officiating. Burial was at Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.

Ford
Harland “Bub” Ford, 79 of Benton, passed away at 10:10 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007 at his residence.
Ford was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. He was a member of Ironworker’s Local 782, a lifetime member of T.L. Jefferson Masonic Lodge F&AM 622, York Rite Bodies of Paducah, Rizpah Shrine Temple of Madisonville, Benton Chapter 305 Order of the Eastern Star and he was a Kentucky Colonel. Ford retired after 50 years as an ironworker and owner Harland E. Ford Construction Company, Inc.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen Miller Ford of Benton; a son, Terry L. Ford of Marion; three daughters, Kathy J. McCurry, Alice “Sam” Ford and Cheryl A. Spiceland all of Benton; a brother, Joe "Nook" Ford of Columbia, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilford Ford and Grover Ford; and one sister, Geneva Wienke. His parents were Ell Ford and Alice Lovett Ford.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 15 at Filbeck, Cann and King Funeral Home with Rev. George Culp and Rev. Mark Mohler officiating. Burial was at the Benton Cemetery.
Ablett
Eloise Head Ablett, 90, of Greenwood, Ind., formerly of Burna passed away at 3:45 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14, 2007 at Johnson County Hospital in Indiana.
She graduated from Murray State Teachers College and taught at a one-room school in Livingston County. She also retired from RCA payroll department in 1979 after 29 years of service.
Survivors include a son, James W. Ablett, Jr.; sisters, Mildred Woodall, Norma Wuster, Frances Arnold; a grandson, Shawn Finkbiner; granddaughters, Nicole Kremp, Denise Singh, Debbie Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Ashley Kremp, Shivanti Singh, Daniel Hamilton; many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
Ablett was born July 29, 1917 in Livingston County, the daughter of Grover C. Head Sr. and Marjorie Head. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Ablett Sr., who passed away in 2002; and her brothers Rhea Head, Hayden Head, Vernon Head and Grover C. Head Jr.; sisters, Melvia Farmer, Mary Head and Beulah Mae Davidson.
Funeral services were at Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Boyd Funeral Home in Salem with Rev. Mike Grimes officiating. Burial was at Cedar Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.
