Harris
Funeral services for Rev. Loyd W. "Toodie" Harris, 74, of Marion, will be held at 2 p.m., Oct. 4, 2007 at Boyd Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Ashford, Rev. Tom Easley and Rev. Bob Patton will officiate. Burial will be in Mapleview Cemetery.
Harris passed away Oct. 2 at Crittenden Hospital.
He was a member of the General Baptist Church and pastored churches in western Kentucky and southern Illinois for 39 years.
Surviving are his wife, Melva Jean Harris of Marion; a daughter, Barbara (George) Crawford of Lola; two sons, Keith (Cindy) Harris of Madisonville and Gary (Crystol) Harris of Reidland; three sisters, Ophelia Damron of Salem, Mildred Croft of Lola and Betty Kinnis of Marion; a brother Harold "Preacher" Harris of Lola; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Augusta Loyd Harris; three brothers, Adrian Harris, Willard Harris and Glenn "Shorty" Harris.

Hicks
John L. “Pete” Hicks, 75, of Hot Springs, Ark., passed away Sept. 27, 2007 at his home. He was born April 18, 1932 in Marion to the late Allie and Naomi Kirk Hicks.
Hicks was a retired builder of water filtration plants and a member of the Masonic lodge in Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Dalton Hicks.
He is survived by two daughters, Yetta (Jim) Freeman, and Cindi Short both of Hot Springs; four sisters, Frances Turley, Ruth Ann Hunter, Vivian Hicks and Jane Pollock all of Kentucky; one grandson, Scott (Stacey) Langston; two great-grandsons, Grayson Langston and Austin Merriott; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Oct. 1, 2007 in the Chapel of Caruth-Hale Funeral Home with Jim Freeman officiating. Burial was in Crestview Cemetery. An online guest book is available atwww.caruth-hale.com. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Eberle
William “Bill” Eberle, 59, of Marion passed away at 3:40 p.m., Sept. 22, 2007 at his home.
He was a member of the Unity Baptist Church and retired from Peabody Coal Company.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Eberle of Marion; two brothers, Robert Eberle of Burna and Arthur Eberle of Conway, Ark.; five sisters, Melva Doane of Burna, Lue Watson of Conway, Ark., Patsy Collins of Marion, Margaret Eberle of Princeton and Anna Belle Latham of Breman; three grandchildren, William and Chelsea Allen and Chloe Jackson, all of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Lillie Eberle; a son, William “Little Bill” Eberle; and a daughter, Pam Jackson.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Buddy Hix officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Grady
Frances Driskill Grady, 87, of Marion passed away at 10 p.m., Monday, Sept. 24, 2007 at Crittenden Health Systems.
Born the daughter of Arnold and Lena Maude Guess Driskill Dec. 22, 1919 in Marion, Grady was preceded in death by her husband, Orville “Soupy” Grady.
Survivors include her son, Wesley Grady of Marion; and two grand-daughters, Kelly Grady of Louisville and Amy Grady Byford of Marion.
No services were planned. Myers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dunning
Rosemary Pope Dunning, native of Livingston County, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007. She was born Jan. 10, 1926.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Steve) Williams of Goshen and Ellen (Will) Neff of Lewisville, Texas; four grandchildren David and Matt Williams and Andrea and Beth Neff.
Known as Johnny, Dunning enjoyed basket making, fishing and seeing her great-grandchildren, Andrew, Bailynn and Caia Jewel. She was a member of North Livingston Baptist Church, Homemakers Club, Women’s Mission Union and had created about 1,600 handmade baskets.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 27 at Boyd Funeral Chapel in Salem with Revs. Ken Cummins, Jim Wring and Phillip Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Hampton Cemetery. Visitation was after 5 p.m., Wednesday.

White
Rachel White, 84, of Eddyville passed away at 4:35 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14, 2007 at Hilltop Nursing Home in Kuttawa.
White was a homemaker and member of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Lyon County. She was preceded in death by her husband, William S. “Bill” White; two sisters, Barbara Heiberg and Frances Lester; three brothers, Clifton Dorroh, Eldwood Dorroh and an infant; and by her parents, B.C. and Willie Naomi Cash Dorroh.
Survivors include a son, Rodney (Karen) White of Eddyville; two grandsons, Brent (Holly) White of Marion and Shane White of Dayton, Ohio; a great-granddaughter, Avery Beth White; one brother, Billy Joe (Joyce) Dorroh of Princeton; a brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” Lester of Princeton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville with Rev. John Ray Baker and Dr. Jerrell White officiating. Burial was at New Bethel Cemetery in Lyon County.

Smith
Pearl O. Smith, 98, passed away Sept. 5, 2007. She was born Sept. 26, 1908, the daughter of William Edgar and Ella Tilford Smith. She graduated from Lockyears Business College in Evansville and attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
On vacation in Washington, she secured employment in private business and remained. Two years later, she received civil service appointment to a position in the federal government. There, she was employed for 37 years as administrative assistant and executive secretary to eight successive directors of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
In 1951, the White House personnel office requested that Smith be loaned to the President’s Commission on Internal Security and Individual Rights, of which Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz (retired) was chairman. She was secretary to Admiral Nimitz and the commission. After one year, she returned to FMCS. That agency bestowed on her its highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award.
A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Smith served as regent of her chapter for three years. She was a member of the National Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. She was a member of several genealogical societies, the University Women’s Club, the Marion Woman’s Club and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Genealogical research was Smith’s main hobby and she researched, wrote and published the history of four of her ancestral families. A keen interest in history prompted her to spend 12 vacations traveling in Great Britain, Europe and the Middle East. She returned to her native Kentucky in 1992.
Survivors include one sister, Anna S. Collins of Marion; four nephews, Roy E. Smith of Gadsden, Ala., and Tony Collins and Jerry Collins, both of Marion, and Bill Collins of Barnhart, Mo.; three nieces, Margaret Honeycutt and Juanita Eads, both of Jasper, Ala., and Anne Collins-Crider of Marion.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Roy and Leman Smith; and one sister, Ada Brown.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Jones officiating. Burial was at Mapleview Cemetery.

Taylor
Bette Kinneman Taylor, 87, of Madisonville passed away at 2:15 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007 at her home.
Born May 17, 1920 in Webb City, Mo., Taylor was the daughter of John Henry and Lottie Weaver Kinneman.
In addition to her parents, Taylor was preceded in death by a daughter, Penelope Jean “Penny” Dobbs and two brothers, Tom Kinneman and Bill Kinneman.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Murray and a 1980 graduate of Murray State University. She was retired from the Murray State library.
Survivors include a daughter, Sally Jane Taylor-Buie of Madisonville; two sons, William Douglas Taylor of Booneville, Ind., and John Laurance Taylor of Clearwater, Fla.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 10 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville with Rev. Anne Marie Montgomery and Rev. David Montgomery officiating.

Brown
Glenn Brown, 84, of Providence passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007 at Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson.
He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from from the U.S. Navy. He served during World War II and during the Korean War. Brown was former commander of the VFW 5484 at Providence and was an active member of Post 6 in Madisonville.
Survivors include four daughters, Elena Webb of Madisonville, Janet Head of Nebo, Connie Wilson and Clara O’Leary, both of Providence; two sons, Ronald Winebarger of Providence and Donald Winebarger of Portland, Ore.; a brother, James R. “Jimmy” Brown Jr. of Marion; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rudean Brown; his parents, James R. Brown Sr. and Bertha Mae Lamb Brown; a son, Jimmy Peyton; a brother, George D. Brown; and a sister, Marcia L. McConnell.
Funeral services were Sept. 12 at Melton Funeral Home in Providence with Rev. Samuel Beeney Sr. and Rev. Laddie Pride officiating. Burial was in Rose Creek Cemetery at Nebo.
