James O. Watson, 81, of Marion, passed away Dec. 31, 2001 at Crittenden Hospital. He was a member of Marion United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post No. 111 in Marion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna Fox of Marion; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel Watson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Jan. 3 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Garvey officiating.
Sutton
Mable Sutton, 86, of Eddyville, passed away Jan. 1, 2002 at Rivers Bend Retirement Center in Kuttawa. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and the Fairview Homemakers Club.
Surviving are four sons, Stacy Sutton of Crittenden County, Leon Sutton of Eddyville, Babe Sutton of Lyon County and Rex Sutton of Ashland; two sisters, Laurelle O'Daniel of Lyon County and Lieuvena Shaw of Haile, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Sutton; a brother, James O'Daniel; two sisters, Blanche Cherry and Almerine McNeely; and her parents, J.W. "Watt" O'Daniel and Myrtle Griggs O'Daniel.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Jan. 3 at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville with Rev. Jeff Devine and Rev. Jerrell White officiating. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery in Lyon County.
Rushing
Anna Belle Rushing, 84, of Marion, passed away Feb. 27, 1999 at Jennie Stewart Medical Center in Hopkinsville. She was a member of Mexico Baptist Church and Order of Eastern Star.
Rushing is survived by a son, Ken Rushing of Marion; a sister, Evelyn Bragdon of Marion; three brothers, Bob Hunter of Marion, Herman Hunter of Princeton and Ford Hunter of Hobart, Ind.; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ford and Bessie Hunter; her first husband, Burnett Tabor; her second husband, Nick Rushing; and a son, Burnett Joe Tabor.
Funeral services were held March 2 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Rodney Groff officiating. Burial was in Mexico Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be sent to Mexico Baptist Church.
York
Services for Shelby York, 81, of Marion, were held March 3, 1999 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Cecil Fayard and Rev. Darrell Clarke officiating. Burial was in Freedom Cemetery.
York passed away Feb. 28 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center.
He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Etta York of Marion; two sons, Ronnie York of Princeton and Don York of Springfield, Ill.; a daughter, Shelby Croft of Marion; two stepsons, Tommy Yandell of Marion and Rickey Yandell of Kuttawa; three brothers, Robert York, Leroy York and Lindy York of Marion; three sisters, Pauline Rittenberry and Charlene Hobbs of Marion and Rose Johnson of Gainesville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Grimes
Annie Grimes, 97, of Marion, passed away Feb. 25, 1999 at Crittenden Hospital.
Funeral service were held Feb. 27 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Phillips and Rev. Jerry Thurman officiating. Burial was in Tyner's Chapel Cemetery.
Grimes is survived by a daughter, Ozella Bailey of Marion; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Grimes.
McDowell
Services for Marion Elliott McDowell, 89, of Marion, were held Feb. 16 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Phillips officiated. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.
McDowell passed away Feb. 14, 1999 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center.
He was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Larry McDowell of Marion; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Wendell, Charles and Gary McDowell.
Gordon
Alice M. Gordon, 88, of Marion, passed away Feb. 14, 1999 at Salem Springlake Care Center. She was a member of Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Curney Gordon of Marion; two sisters, Corine Lawrence of Sturgis and Oneta Pruden of Indianapolis; a brother, James Arthur Hill of Indianapolis; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Arthur Gordon.
Funeral services held Feb. 19 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lewis Cemetery.
Ryan
Paul A. Ryan, 70, of Marion, passed away Feb. 14, 1999 at his home. He served in the U.S. Navy during of World War II.
Surviving are Ryan's wife, Joann of Marion; two daughters, Janet Ryan of Ellicott City, Maryland, and Mary Halley of Fredrick, Maryland; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Feb. 18 at Frances Cemetery with Rev. Cortis Hill officiating.
Harbison
Services for Hazel Harbison, 86, of Shelbyville, formerly of Salem, were held Feb. 8, 1999 at Boyd Funeral Chapel. Rev. Tim Porter officiated with burial in Old Salem Cemetery.
Harbison passed away Feb. 5 at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville.
Harbison submitted a weekly column to The Crittenden Press and The Livingston Ledger for many years.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Walker of Easton, Ohio; three grandchildren; three great--grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and a step-great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.H. Harbison.
Cummings
Joe Cummings, 52, of Marion, passed away Feb. 6, 1999 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Feb. 8 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating.
Survivors include two daughters, Melissa M. Cummings of Henderson and Peggy Cummings of Benton; a step-daughter, Christy Eastwood of Marion; four brothers, Alvin Gene Cummings of Madisonville, Clifton James Cummings of LaBell, Fla., Johnny Cummings and J.T. Cummings of Henderson; a sister, Mae Belle Sisk of Dawson Springs; and two grandchildren, Jake Cummings and Ashlie Howard of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Juanita Cummings and two brothers.
Tharp
Richard Tharp, 73, of Lola, passed away Feb. 4, 1999 at his home.
Surviving are a son, Dale Tharp of Lola; seven sisters, Recie Turner, Juanita Wilbanks and Imogene James, all of East Peoria, Ill., Cleo Schnake of Eldorado, Ill., Dottie Tabor of Simpson, Ill., Lucille King of Golconda, Ill., and Ileene Kroll of Burna; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Tharp.
Funeral services were held Feb. 7 at Boyd Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jim Bellamy officiating. Burial was in Lola Cemetery.
