James R. "Ace" Cowan, 72, of Providence, passed away Nov. 1, 1999 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was a businessman and iron worker.
Cowan is survived by his wife, Jeanne Cowan of Providence; two sons, Richard Chris Cowan of Annadale, Va. and Deron J. Cowan of Newburgh, Ind.; a daughter, Mary Teresa Lucas of Pomona, N.Y.; two sisters, Billie Doris Crider of Marion and Patsy Greer of Smithland; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Nov. 4 at Townsend-Jones Funeral Home in Providence. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kentucky Baptist Childrens' Home.
DeBoe
Roy Catherine DeBoe, 85, of Brighton, Mich. formerly of Gilbertsville, passed away Oct. 18, 1999 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.
She is survived by a sister, Betty Dempsey of Brighton, Mich.; a niece, Nina Jean Murray of Brighton; two nephews, Jack Melton of Memphis, Mich. and Tim Melton of Detroit, Mich.; several great nieces and nephews; several great-great nieces and nephews; and several great-great-great nieces and nephews.
DeBoe was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert DeBoe; her parents Guss and Laud Catherine Melton; and a brother, Donley Melton.
Graveside services were held Oct. 23 at Mexico Cemetery with Rev. Rodney Groff officiating. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Swan
Services for Robert Swan, 76, of Marion were held Oct. 24 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.
Swan passed away Oct. 21, 1999 at Livingston County Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Swan of Marion; two sons, Michael Swan of Marion and David Swan of Greenville; two daughters, Bobbi Falin of Bowling Green and Sharon Swan of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Wring
Hollis F. Wring, 72, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Frances, passed away Oct. 16, 1999 at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis.
He retired in 1980 from Chicago Motor Club after 18 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, June Wring of Indianapolis; a daughter, Patricia Smith of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a son Gary Wring of Indianapolis; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herschel and Alice (McClure) Wring; a brother, Northern Wring; and a sister, Edna Brasher.
Services were held Oct. 20 at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home with burial in Lindenwood Cemtery in Fort Wayne.
Witherspoon
Lee Witherspoon, 56, of Caldwell County, passed away Oct. 13, 1999 at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Witherspoon, Sr., of Caldwell County; her mother, Dorothy Cotton of Lamasco; four sons, Neal Harper of Lyon County, Ronnie Wesley Witherspoon and Steve Witherspoon, both of Caldwell County and Jeff Witherspoon of Marion; a brother, Dixie Cotton of Princeton.
She was preceded in death by her father Homer Cotton.
Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Gary Childress and Rev. Dean Ray officiating. Burial was in Gray Cemetery in Lyon County.
Peek
Ruby Peek, 80, of Dycusburg, passed away Oct. 13, 1999. She was a member of Dycusburg United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Ray Peek of Dycusburg; two sons, Steve Peek and Neil Peek, both of Dycusburg; a brother, Russell Rednour of Arizona; a sister, Barbara Conner of Grand Rivers; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda June Smith; two brothers, Everett Rednour and Vernon Rednour; four sisters, Lulla Belle Martin, Alice Brown, Maggie Shewcraft and Helen Gray.
Her parents were James Marion and Lydia Florence Sullivan Rednour.
Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at Dunn's Funeral Home in Eddyville with Rev. Gerald Gaddis officiating. Burial was in Dycusburg Cemetery.
Gorham
Jane Gorham, 81, of Paducah, passed away Oct. 12, 1999 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Calvert City.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Paducah where she served as a Sunday school teacher and choir member.
Gorham was retired from VISA Division of the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C., where she served as a foreign affairs officer. She was a Duchess of Paducah.
Survivors include a sister, Rosemary Dunning of Paducah; 10 nieces; and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Gorham; two sisters; and five brothers. Her parents were Will and Nellie Threlkeld Pope.
Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Boyd Funeral Chapel in Salem with Rev. Kevin McCallon officiating. Burial was in Hampton Cemetery.
Hooper
Sidney Owen Hooper, 57, of Nashville, Tenn., a longtime spokeswoman for the Tennessee State Department of Education, passed away Oct. 10, 1999 of cancer at her home.
Hooper began her career under Gov. Buford Ellington and served in six administrations. Those who worked with her said she was truly dedicated to the agency and truly a gifted communicator. She graduated from Vanderbilt University and was later admitted to the Tennessee Bar after attaining a degree in law, was responsible for public information, including the department's internet website. She was also a liaison for the governor's office and was the agency publication liasion.
She is survived by her husband, Charles W. Hooper; a daughter, Kelly Owen; a son, Jim Owen; her mother and stepfather, Ethel and John William Chandler, formerly of Marion; and two grandchildren, all of Nashville.
Hooper was preceded in death by her grandparents, George and Evalyn Shelby Roberts of Marion.
Graveside services were held Oct. 13 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home Memory Gardens in Nashville.
Williams
Graveside services for Betty Williams, 77, of Woodridge, Ill., formerly of Lola, were be held at 4 p.m., Oct. 20 at Bethel Cemetery with Rev. Mike Snyder officiating.
Williams passed away Oct. 15, 1999 at Edwards Hospital in Naperville, Ill.
Survivers include a son, Ron Kacena; and a daughter, Betty Reynolds, both of Woodridge; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Williams; two sons; two sisters; and a brother.
Boyd Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Shields
Thomas Allen Shields, 20, of Marion, formerly of Warsaw, passed away Oct. 8, 1999 at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Shields is survived by his parents, Robert and Cheryl Shields of Warsaw; a brother, Tim Michael Shields of Warsaw; a sister, Summer Theres Shields of Warsaw; two grandfathers, Robert Shields of Warsaw and Herman Partain of Norwood, Ohio; a grandmother, Bonnie Steele of Honor, Mich.; two aunts, Sharon Suits of Salem and Jeanette Lutz of Marion.
Memorial services were held Oct. 12 at Gilbert Funeral Home. The body was cremated.
