Funeral services for Robert Guess, 75, of Tolu will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 10 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Herbert Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Mapleview Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 5 p.m., Thursday, March 9.
Guess passed away March 6, 2000 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
He was a member of Tolu Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Guess of Tolu; a son, John R. Guess of Saline, Mich.; two daughters, Anna F. Moyer of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Susan Lepczyk of Madison, Conn.; a sister, Myra Hamilton of Tolu; and six grandchildren.
Winters
Funeral services for Hazel Winters, 88, of Kuttawa, were held Feb. 28 at Lakeland Funeral Chapel at Eddyville with Rev. Ted Yates officiating. Burial was in Providence Cemetery in Lyon County.
Winters passed away Feb. 26, 2000 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
Surviving are four sons, Charles Edward Winters, John William Winters, Harold Junior Winters and Thomas Cash Winters, all of Louisville; four daughters, Willie Mae Brindley of Kuttawa, Christine Carroll of Paducah, Louise Hammons of Louisville and Joanne Hutchinson of Paducah; 26 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Winters was born in Caldwell County the daughter of Walter Wilson Moore and Leffa Mae McGoodwin Moore. She was a homemaker and attended Lyon County Senior Citizens Organization.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lawrence Winters, a daughter, Ruby Lee Phillips, four grandchildren and several brothers and sisters.
Howard
Jewel Vaughn Howard, 81, of Houston, Texas and formerly of Marion and Evansville, passed away Feb. 27, 2000 at her home.
She was a graduate of Marion High School.
She is survived by two sisters, Allie Feller of Evansville; Martha Patmor of Marion; five brothers, J.B. Vaughn of Evansville, George Vaughn of Marion, Bruce Vaughn of California, Kelly Vaughn of Kansas City, Mo., and Rev. Gavin Vaughn of Hobbs, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Howard, and a son.
Memorial services were conducted by Rev. Gavin Vaughn with interment in Houston.
Childress
Funeral services for Carlyn C. Childress, 87, of Princeton, passed away Feb. 26, 2000.
He was a retired carpenter and member and deacon of Second Baptist Church in Princeton.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Verna Thomas Childress of Princeton; a son, Rev. Gary Childress of Hopkinsville; two daughters, Glenda Osborne of Princeton and Sue Son of Madisonville; two sisters, Evalee Hanna of Pasadena, Texas and Pauline Coffman of Trenton, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Childress' parents were Spurlin and Birchie Littlefield Childress.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and a grandson.
Funeral services were held at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Bobby Jackson Sr., Rev. Duane Burden and Dr. J. Thomas Son officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Thomas
Dorothy L. Thomas, 73, of Marion, passed away Feb. 26, 2000 at Crittenden Hospital
Survivors include a daughter, Debra Barnes of Marion; a sister, Magdalene Clark of Troy, Mich.; a granddaughter, Cindy Barnes of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Mary J. Bridwell, and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Feb. 29 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Porter officiating. Burial was in Hurricane Cemetery.
Brantley
Mary C. Brantley, 71, of Marion, passed away Feb. 25, 2000 at Crittenden Hospital. She was a member of Marion Christian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann Brantley of Smyrna, Tenn., and Mary Fritts of Marion; a son, Bennie Brantley of Maine; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Her parents were Joe and Ethel Vaughn.
Funeral services were held Feb. 28 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev. John Conn officiated. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.
Foster
Mattie Foster, 92, formerly of Salem, passed away Feb. 24, 2000 at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville.
Funeral services were held Feb. 28 at Boyd Funeral Home. Burial was in Duley Bluff Cemetery.
Survivors include a niece, Mabel E. Lewis of Vine Grove; and two nephews, Ollie B. Emerine of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Keith O. Emerine of Vine Grove.
Travis
Guy Reginald Travis, 79, of Sturgis, formerly of Marion, passed away Feb. 25, 2000. He was a veteran of WW II, was a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theater, Italian Campaign. He was comptroller for Illinois State University at Edwardsville, Ill., until his retirement. He later worked for Kurtz Auction Realty for two years.
Travis is survived by three sons, Guy Kimberly Travis of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Col. Gary Kenyon Travis of Falls Church, Va., and Grant Kevin Travis of San Francisco, Calif.; a brother, Douglas Travis of Paducah; two sisters, Shan Shiver of Wetumpka, Ala., and Jo Jenkins of Sturgis; and a grandson, Dustin Travis of Gulf Breeze.
Arrangements were incomplete at Whitsell Funeral Home. No floral arrangements will be accepted. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the charity of choice.
Shewcraft
Lawrence J. "Curly" Shewcraft, 75, of Frances passed away Feb. 23, 2000 at his home.
Surviving are his wife, Katie Shewcraft; a daughter, Linda Traylor of Evansville; a sister, Ruby Richardson of Madisonville; a granddaughter, Jackie Bechtel of Evansville; a grandson, Robbie Traylor of Evansville; one nephew and three great-grandchildren.
His parents were Lawrence J. Shewcraft Sr., and Hattie Holder Shewcraft.
Funeral services were held at Seven Springs Baptist Church Feb. 26 with Rev. Donnie Howton officiating. Burial was in Frances Cemetery.
Hodge
George L. Hodge, 70, of Marion, passed away Feb. 23, 2000 at Crittenden Hospital. He was a member of St. William Catholic Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Hodge of Marion; three sons, Morris Hodge, Howard Hodge and Michael Hodge, all of Marion; two brothers, Don Hodge and Sam Hodge of Marion; a sister, Mary Wicker of Marion; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Stella Hodge; his wife, Alice Hodge; two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held Feb. 25 at St. William Catholic Church with Father Carl McCarthy and Rev. Darrell Clarke officiating.
Burial was in St. William Cemetery.
