Velda Sturgeon, 92, of Owensboro, formerly of Marion, passed away Nov. 12, 2001 at her home. She was a member of Marion Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel.
Surviving are her daughter, Christine Sliger of Owensboro; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Sturgeon; and a son, Jimmy Sturgeon.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Darrell Clarke of Marion, will be held at 11 a.m., Nov. 15 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mapleview Cemetery.
Abell
Joseph Richard Abell, 83, of Marion, passed away Nov. 13, 2001 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center. He was a member of St. William Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline Pryce Abell of Marion; a stepson, Michael Menzelli of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Nov. 16 at St. William Catholic Church with burial in St. William Catholic Cemetery. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Dickey
Louise Dickey, 64, of Fredonia, passed away Oct. 31, 2001 at Crittenden Hospital. She was a retired beautician.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Larsen of Fredonia; a brother, David Dickey of Chesterton, Ind.; a sister, Eugenia Dickey, also of Chesterton; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Dickey and Doris Ella Dowdy Dickey.
A memorial service will be held in Chesterton at a later date. Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton is in charge of arrangements.
Cullen
Maude Cullen, 98, of Marion, passed away Nov. 3, 2001 at her home.
Surviving are three grandsons, John Reed of Eddyville, Victor Polk of Marion and Allen Polk of Beulah and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Nov. 6 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Clement officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Providence.
McClure
Funeral services for Betty Jo McClure, 53, of Marion, were held Nov. 4, 2001 at Pinckneyville Cemetery near Salem. Rev. Robert Phillips officiated. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
McClure passed away Nov. 2 at Livingston Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Troy McClure of Marion, and a son, Terry McClure, also of Marion.
Burchard
Janice Rose Burchard, 35, of Burna, passed away Oct. 30, 2001 at Salem Springlake Care Center.
Funeral services were held Nov. 2 at Boyd Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Cheever officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Heather Burchard of Corning, Ark.; a son, Dallas Burchard of Hampton; her husband, Steve Burchard of Hampton; two sisters, Hazel Dickerson of Hampton and Helen Dickerson of Burna; two brothers, Wayne Noel and James David Noel, both of Hampton ; her mother, Allie Cordelia Curry of Burna; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Edward Noel, and her brother, Harley Edward Noel.
Trowbridge
Robert C. Trowbridge, 70, of Sullivan, passed away Nov. 6, 2001 at his home. He was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army in Korea with the 89th Airborne Division.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Nov. 8 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with Bro. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Rosebud Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Barbara Trowbridge; three daughters, Patti Hughes of Marion, Janet Gass of Sturgis and Vicky Welborn of Sullivan; two sons, Kenny Trowbridge of Morganfield and Bobby Trowbridge of Sullivan; a half-sister, Beverly Coleman of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Charles Trowbridge of Denver; a half-brother, Paul Clark of Denver; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Hospice.
Waters
Franklin Eugene "Gene" Waters, 71, of Paducah, passed away Oct. 26, 2001 at Western Baptist Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Waters of Paducah; two sisters, Ruth Rogers of Marrero, La., and Larene Croft of Salem; two brothers, Thomas Waters of Burna and Odell Waters of Marion; two daughters; two sons; and two stepdaughters.
His parents were George "Buster" Franklin Waters and Beulah Smith Waters. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Waters.
Graveside services were held Oct. 27 at Dyer Hill Cemetery. Boyd Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Braswell
Nathan Braswell, 23, of Dycusburg, passed away Oct. 25, 2001 in Salem.
He is survived by his mother, Jacquetta Braswell of Dycusburg and his maternal grandfather, Ollie Patton, also of Dycusburg.
Graveside services were held Oct. 27 at Dycusburg Cemetery with Rev. Rob Hughes officiating.

Milley Nathaniel Peek, 83, of Dycusburg, passed away Oct. 28, 2001 at his home. He was a retired farmer and member of Dycusburg Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Oct. 30 at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville with Rev. James Oates officiating. Burial was in Dycusburg Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Virginia Conger Peek of Dycusburg; two daughters, Patsy O'Bryan and Sue Bailey, both of Dycusburg; a sister, Marie Travis of Crittenden County; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Logan
Cora Harriet Logan, 88, of Cave In Rock, Ill., passed away Oct. 26, 2001 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
She attended Cave In Rock First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Reed of Marion, Margie Reed of Bourbonais, Ill.; a son, Bill Logan of Paducah; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one great-great step grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irving Logan, a son and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Oct. 31 at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave In Rock with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.
