Hazel Evans Smith, 87, of Flemingsburg, passed away Dec. 20, 2005, at her residence. She was the widow of Warren Howe Smith who died Aug. 13, 1996.
Born in Fleming County on Aug. 18, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Jessie M. and Florence Mattox Evans.
Mrs. Smith was a former cashier at the A & P Grocery store in Maysville.
Surviving are three nephews, Dennis (Robyn) Evans of Frankfort, Jessie (Janis) Evans of Flemingsburg and Jerry (Pam) Evans of Maysville; two great-nieces, Jessica and Jennifer Evans; and two great-nephews, Eric and Christopher Evans.
Preceding her in death were an infant daughter, Sharon Sue Smith; a brother, Jessie "Red" Evans; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Evans.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 24 at the Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Beckham officiating. Burial was in Fleming County Cemetery.
Sharon Crump Copher
Sharon Crump Copher, 56, of Owingsville, passed away at her residence on Dec. 23, 2005.
Mrs. Copher was the co-owner of C&S Western Wear. She was a member of the Owingsville First Church of God and president and leader of the 4-H Diamond Horse Club for over 20 years.
Born on Oct. 9, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith and Eulala Denton Crump.
Surviving are her husband, Deweese Copher; two sons, Ebony Copher and Chad (Kerri) Copher, both of Owingsville; four brothers, Elbert Crump of Mt. Carmel, Charles Crump and Dale Crump, both of Hillsboro, and Terry Crump of Ewing; three sisters, Emma Branam of Cincinnati, Wanda Fisher of Indiana and Edith Lewis of Wallingford; one grandchild, Isabella Copher; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 27 at Richardson Funeral Home in Owingsville. Contributions are suggested to the Owingsville First Church of God.
Elbert Franklin Spencer
Elbert Franklin “Abe” Spencer, 71, of Sugartree Road in Muses Mills, passed away at his residence Dec. 24, 2005.
Mr. Spencer was a retired farmer and logger.
Born Feb. 21, 1934, in Petersville, he was the son of Lonnie Spencer and Chloe Chetta Sparks Spencer.
Surviving are one brother, Earnest (Bina) Spencer of Petersville; and two sisters, Marie (Harold) Newsom of Minerva and Barbara (Lovell) Meadows of Burtonville.
Preceding him in death was one brother, Wilford Spencer.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. Arnold Howell officiating. Burial will be in the Muses Mills Cemetery.
Calvin Boggs Kirkendall
Calvin Boggs Kirkendall, 89, of Tollesboro, passed away Dec. 24, 2005.
Mr. Kirkendall had extensive land holdings in Mason, Lewis and Fleming counties. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II.
Born in Lewis County on May 8, 1925, he was the son of the late Augustus Kirkendall and Lillie Boggs.
Surviving are one sister, Marinell (Hank) Ash of Tollesboro; a niece and a nephew and numerous cousins.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Bennie.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 27 at Barbour and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. David Shoemaker officiating; burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Mason County.
