Will Nelson, 77, of East Point, died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
Born September 8, 1925, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Hiland and Martha Osborne Nelson. He was a retired Department of Trans-portation employee for the Floyd County Board of Educa-tion; a W.W. II veteran of the U.S. Army; and a member of the East Point Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include five brothers, Arvel (Mush) Nelson of Tutor Key, Grady Nelson, Ed Nelson, and Donald Lee Nelson, all of Prestonsburg, and Hargus Nelson of Fargo, North Dakota; a sister, Mary Ellen Powers of Leander; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam Nelson, Jack Nelson, and Ted Nelson.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 4, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, with Tom Nelson and Buster Hayton officiating.
Burial will be in the Webb Family Cemetery at East Point, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Jan (Chaffins) Thompson
Jan (Chaffins) Thompson, 80, of Minford, Ohio, died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Southern Ohio Medical Center, in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Born June 23, 1922, in Garrett, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Froney (Collins) Chaffins. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Prestonsburg, for many years. She was manager at the Parisian in Raleigh, North Carolina; attended Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes; she received additional nurses training in Huntington, West Virginia; and was a member of P.E.O. in Prestonsburg.
She is survived by one son, Clyde Gilbert (Debra) Thomp-son of Gallatin, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Holly Thompson of Nashville, Tennessee, and Heather Yockey of Memphis, Tennessee; three sisters, Oretta (Alvin Jr.) Meade, Sylvia (Jack) Burchett, and Carmel N. Martin, all of Lucasville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Byron M. “Rig” Thompson on March 6, 1991, and one sister, Orpha Akers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 3, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford, with Pastor Major Montgomery officiating.
Burial will be in Salisbury Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, May 2, from 5 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Gwen Gaile
Gwen Gaile, 74, of Clearwater Beach, Florida, family member of Lloyd and Eleanor Crum of Prestonsburg, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2002, at the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida.
She was born November 19, 1927, at Dana, a daughter of the late Hayden and Sadie (Akers) Howell.
She was a Purchasing Agent for a country club in Chicago, Illinois.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Eleanor Crum of Prestonsburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 26, at 11 a.m., at the Burke Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Arnold Turner officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.

Dora Lee Howard
Dora Lee Howard, age 63, of Louisville, formerly of Magoffin County, wife of Harold Howard, passed away Friday, September 20, 2002, in Santa Rosa, New Mexico.
She was born July 22, 1939, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the daughter of the late George Risner and Pocahontas Risner.
In addition to her husband, she is survived two sons, Paul Howard and Steve Howard, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; four daughters, Phyllis Howard of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Wilma Howard Brown and Delores Howard, both of Spokane, Washington, and Lisa Howard Hallis of Louisville; nine brothers, Ollie Risner, Frank Risner, Larry Risner, Richard Risner, Theodore Risner, Ray Risner and Dave Risner, all of Michigan, and Clayton Risner and Elmar Risner, both of Alabama; three sisters, Ruth Patrick of Saranak, Michigan, Josephine Bailey of Belding, Michigan, and Barbara Patrick of Ionik, Michigan; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 28, at 2 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Ollie Watts officiating.
Burial will follow in the Brushy Bill Cemetery, at Gunlock, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.

Hascal Beauford Gullett
Hascal Beauford Gullett, age 90, of Bypro, husband of Gladys Marie Kittle Gullett, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2002, at the Saint Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
He was born December 16, 1911, in Princess, the son of the late Ida Effie Brown Gullett and Henry Allen Gullett. He was a retired coal miner.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Ronald Lee Gullett of Bypro, and Lloyd Dale Gullett and Larry Franklin Gullett, both of Flatwoods; two daughters, Dreama Gayle Nelson of Milwaukie, Oregon, and Glorida Kay Harlow of Wheelwright; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Gullett were conducted on Monday, September 23, at 11 a.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Roy Harlow and Louie Ferrari officiating.
Burial was in the Buckingham Cemetery, at Bevinsville, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Leonard Hall
Leonard Hall, age 65, of Printer, passed away Monday, September 23, 2002, at his residence.
He was born June 19, 1937, in Honaker, the son of the late Bert Hall and Nola Roberts Hall. He was a member of the Old Beaver Regular Baptist Church, at Minnie.
Survivors include three brothers, Richard Hall of Riverside, California, Clarence Hall of Lapel, Indiana, and Bobby Hall of Winchester; two sisters, Edna Pitts of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Wilma Casper of West Chester, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Butler Hall, and one sister, Arcolas Mayo.
Funeral services for Leonard Hall will be conducted Thursday, September 26, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergymen Jimmy Dye and Clifford Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, McDowell, under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home.

Goldie Scutchfield
Goldie Scutchfield, 71, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
She was born February 14, 1931, in Prestonsburg, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Gray) Meadows.
On March 29, 1950, she married
Alton Scutchfield in Prestonsburg; he survives.
She worked at NSK as a bearing assembly operator, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church for 45 years; was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary; and taught Sunday School there.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: one daughter, Eileen (John) Cosner of Milan; three sons, Alton (Debbie) Jr., of Temperance, Michael (Shelia) and Terry (Laurie), both of Ypsilanti; 10 grandchildren, Christy, Daniel, Lance, Dereck, Megan, Courtney, Devon, Brandee, Tiffanie and Raven; two great-grandchildren, Roy and T.J.; one half sister, Sally; six brothers, George, Cottrell, Curtis, Arthur, Silas and Berklin; one half brother, Wade; several nieces and nephews; and finally, many brothers and sisters in Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 21, at First Free Will Baptist Church, 1244 Holmes Road, Ypsilanti, with Rev. Rudy Shankle officiating.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery, under the direction of Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel.

Robert “Bob” Bolen
Robert “Bob” Bolen, 90, of Rock Fork, Garrett, died Sunday, September 22, 2002.
Born March 8, 1912, in Rock Fork, Garrett, he was the son of the late Reece and Nancy Conley Bolen. He was a disabled coal miner and railroad employee.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Opal Huff Bolen, whom he married
September 7, 1934.
Other survivors include his children, Nancy Faye Shepherd, wife of Arthur Shepherd of Willard, Ohio, Annis Mae Shepherd, wife of the late Coet Shepherd of Garrett, Mac Arthur Bolen, husband of Margie Bolen of Garrett, Ray Edward Bolen, husband of Ollie Howard Bolen of Garrett, Bethel Bolen, husband of Dorothy Bolen of Garrett, Sterlin Bolen, husband of Phyllis Bradley Bolen of Garrett; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchldren, two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Glenna Bolen, one son-in-law, Coet Shepherd; one great-grandchild, Austin Shepherd; four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 25, at 11 a.m., at the Rock Fork United Christian Church at Garrett, with Rev. Willie Collins officiating.
Burial will be in the Robert and Opal Bolen Cemetery, Rock Fork, Garrett, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
