Rex Meade, age 77, of McDowell, husband of Bonnie Bell Henson, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2002, in the McDowell Appalachian Re-gional Hospital, McDowell.
He was born August 12, 1925, at Hi Hat, the son of the late Sam T. and Vada Gibson Meade. He was a retired carpenter, and bus driver for the Floyd County School System.
Survivors include one son, Sam Meade of Charleston, South Carolina; one daughter, Deborah Patrick of Charlotte, North Carolina; two step-sons, Randy and Kermit Bell Jr., both of McDowell; one brother, Edgar Meade of Allen Park, Michigan; two sisters, Betty Breeding of Lexington and Genevieve Stidham of Eaton, Ohio; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by one brother, Raymond Meade.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 26, at 12 noon, at the Little Rosa Regular Baptist Church, McDowell, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Meade Family Cemetery, McDowell, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the church.
Pallbearers: Brent Luxmore, Gary Meade, Meredith Slone, Raymond Ward, and Terry Paige.
Edison “Buddy” Johnson
Edison “Buddy” Johnson, 53, of McDowell, died Friday, August 23, 2002, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin, following an extended illness.
Born on March 5, 1949, in Bevinsville, he was the son of the late Raymond and Stella Thornsbury Johnson. He was a disabled coal miner and an Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Collins Johnson.
Survivors include one son, William R. Johnson of Auxier; five daughters, Kimberly Ann Little of Weeksbury, Tonya Ann Rhodd of Wyoming, Annie Peterson of Battle Creek, Michigan, Stella R. Frasure and Tammy M. Justice, both of McDowell; and one step-son, J.J. Johnson of Wheelwright; one brother, Ray Lee Johnson of Prestonsburg; two sisters, Donna Bentley, and Maudie Crum, both of Prestonsburg; 11 grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 26, at 11 a.m., at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Ronnie Samons and Louis Ferrari officiating.
Burial was in the Adkins Cemetery at Arkansas Creek, in Martin, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Rex Meade

Matthew Maxwell Goble
Matthew Maxwell Goble, died Saturday, August 10, 2002, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Pres-tonsburg.
Survivors include his parents, Matthew and Charla Goble of Prestonsburg.
His maternal grandparents are Carole Ann and Charles “Butch” Bentley of Wayland, and the late Chalmer Hall; paternal grandparents are Kathy Goble of Prestonsburg, and the late Bill Tom Goble.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday, August 10, at Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel.
Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.
Estelean H. Jacobs
Estelean H. Jacobs, age 62, of Pippa Passes, wife of Gayland Jacobs, passed away, Sunday, August 25, 2002, in the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center, Hazard.
She was born July 15, 1940, in Raven, the daughter of the late Ruben Hall and Sarah Lee Thomas Hall. She was a retired school teacher. She earned a BA in education from Caney Junior College and Berea College, and worked to attain her Masters and Rank I at Morehead State University. She taught for more than 25 years in the Knott County School Systems. She was a member of the Ancient of Arizona Old Regular Baptist Church in Phoenix, Arizona. She was an outstanding young women finalist in 1978, based on excellence in the classroom.
Surviving, an addition to her loving husband, include one son, Eric Erwin Jacobs, and his wife, Anna Margaret of Pippa Passes; two daughters, Tonia “Toni” Gaye Jacobs-Henry, and her husband, Bruce Dean; and Kristalean Rasanda Phillips, and her husband, Christopher Britton; seven brothers, Lawrence Hall of Dema, Russell Hall, Haskle Hall, and Roger Hall, all of Raven, Gleva Hall of Lafayette, Indiana, Harold Hall of Quincy, and Bobby Doyle Hall of Topmost; four sisters, Opal Harris of Winchester, Glenna Fern Vance and Sharon Kay Hicks, both of Paynesville, West Virginia, and Delois Hagerman of Ligonier, Indiana; two grandchildren, Hannah Olivia Henry and Edwin “Tyler” Henry; two step-grandchildren, Charity Ailene Henry, and Elizabeth Nicole Henry.
She was preceded in death by two infant brothers, James Marvin Hall and Hershel Hall.
Funeral services for Estelean H. Jacobs will be conducted, Thursday, August 29, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Cluett Hall, Curtis Hall, and Deffort “Honeybun” Thornsberry officiating.
Burial will follow in the Joe Hall Cemetery, Dry Creek, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is after 5 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Willie Golden Wilburn
Willie Golden Wilburn, age 89, of Toler Creek Road, Harold, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at his residence at Harold.
Born March 23, 1913, at Harold, he was the son of the late Finley and Mertie Sturgill Wilburn. He was a retired coal miner; a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Flara Hamilton Wilburn; one daughter, Jewelle Likens; and one brother, Clifford Wilburn.
Survivors include one son, Phil Wilburn of Louisa; one daughter, Trilba Jean Keathly of Harold; three sisters, Norma Conn, Erma Damron and Rhoda Belle King, all of Harold; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 17, at 1 p.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel in Martin, with elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating.
Burial will be in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Flossie B. Holbrook
Flossie B. Holbrook, 100, of Ada, Ohio, died Saturday, August 24, 2002, at Richland Manor Nursing Home of Bluffton, Ohio.
Born on June 26, 1902, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Mahala (Music) Snavely. She was a homemaker and a member of the Auglaize United Baptist Church, Maysville, Ohio.
Her husband, Jessie Holbbrook, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one sister, Lora Mae DeRossett of Reading, California; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 27, 11 a.m., at Hanson-Neeley Funeral Home, Ada, Ohio, with Rev. Russell Manns and Rev. Willie Collins officiating.
Burial was in the Preston Cemetery, Alger, Ohio, under the direction of Hanson-Neeley Funeral Home.

Bronley Gene Williams
Bronley Gene Williams, age 57, of Paintsville, formerly of Floyd County, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2002, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
He was born August 10, 1945, in Knott County, the son of the late Everett Sr. and Garnetta Butcher Williams. He was a special education teacher for the Johnson County School System.
Survivors include one brother, Jack Blake Williams of Franklin, Indiana, and one sister, Anna Laura Bowling of Fayetteville, West Virginia.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 27, at 11 a.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Hugh Heneager officiating.
Burial was in the Williams Cemetery, Williamsport, under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
