Dan Rowland, 61, of Prestonsburg, died Tuesday, August 6, 2002, following a brief illness.
Born on November 16, 1940, in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Hugh D. and Kittie Hagans Rowland. He was a member of the Floyd County Bar Association, former assistant commonwealth attorney, former assistant county attorney, and a former radio announcer for W.M.D.J.
Survivors include one son, Tom Rowland, of Lexington; and one brother, Cleaties (Howdy) Rowland, of Blue River.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Doug Rowland.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 10, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Tom Rowland officiating.
Burial will be in the Stewart Cemetery, at Langley, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home, anytime Friday, and beforre services on Saturday.
Draxie Hamilton Slone
Draxie Hamilton Slone, 80, of Galveston, died Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at her residence, following a brief illness.
Born on March 12, 1922, in Teaberry, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Mary Blankenship Hamilton. She was a homemaker and a member of Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Slone.
Survivors include one son, Darrell Slone of Lexington; three daughters, Rose Mary Mitchell of Hi Hat; and Irene Hall and Gertrude Hall, both of Galveston; two brothers, Willis Hamilton of Indiana, and Willie Hamilton of Hi Hat; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Merlin Slone; one brother, Bert Hamilton; three sisters, Stella Osborne, Della Mae Hall, and Rosie Green; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 9, at 10 a.m., at the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church at Teaberry, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will be in the Joe Reynolds Cemetery at Beaver, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation is at the church.
Virgie Moore
Virgie Moore 85, of Marion, Ohio, died Monday, August 5, 2002, at Marion General Hospital.
Born February 7, 1917, in Hindman, she was the daughter of the late Steve and Martha (Patton) Mosley. She had been a Marion resident for 51 years; she was a homemaker, and attended the White Oaks Road Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and loved all sorts of flowers.
On August 1, 1936, she married
Tom E. Moore, and he preceded her in death on September 20, 1985, in Marion.
Survivors include four sons, Brewie (Margaret) Moore of Kenton, Lawrence Edward (Mary Sue) Moore, Charles (Gale) Moore and Donald “Gene” (Sheri) Moore, all of Marion; two daughters, Charlotte (Charles) Bowling of Marion, and Sharon (David) Davis, of Wesleyan, Michigan; two brothers, Delmus and Bob Mosley, both of Marion; and two sisters, Marie Paige of Wayland, and Versie Smith of Marion; 25 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley Prater and Peggy Sue Moore; a sister, Lucy Manns, and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 9, at 11 a.m., at the White Oaks Road Freewill Baptist Church in Marion, Ohio, with Rev. Grover Caudill, Rev. Boyce Ray Mullins and Rev. Russell Manns officiating.
Burial will follow at the Grand Prarie Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church, anytime prior to the service on Friday.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Leukemia Society.

Delcie Slone
Delcie Slone, age 87, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, formerly of Wayland, widow of William P. Slone, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Michigan.
She was born December 29, 1904, in Floyd County, the daughter of the late Frank Vance and Haley McCurry Vance.
Survivors include one daughter, Marie Stout of Wheelwright, several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Delcie Slone were conducted Monday, August 5, at 10 a.m., at the Turner Cemetery, Dema, with Clergyman George Kestel officiating, and Hall Funeral Home, Martin, caring for those arrangements.
Nelma Martin Hall
Nelma Martin Hall, of Mason, Ohio, died Sunday, August 4, at 5:20 p.m.
She was born August 20, 1920, in Drift, and was formerly a beautician in Lexington.
She was a faithful and true wife until her death.
She is survived by her husband, Willie Franklin Hall, whom she married, December 22, 1945, and this union was blessed with two children, Norma Bradford and Fred Hall, who survive.
Other survivors include one sister, Norma Bone; grandchildren, Nicole and Ashley Bradford and Tim and Rebecca Hall, and her son-in-law, Harold Bradford, and daughter-in-law, Eileen Hall.
She was preceded in death by her three brothers, McClellan, Sherman, and Sheridan Martin; and one sister, Topsy Butler.
Nelma is praised by her husband as being a near perfect mother, wife and homemaker.
She was true to her church, The First Baptist Church of Mason, and has been a member for many, many years. She truly loved her family and her church.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 7, at 11 a.m., at Hodapp Funeral Home, 8815 Cincinnati-Columbus Rd. (Rt. 42), West Chester, Ohio.
Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mason, Ohio.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Jo Ann Theresa Alsop Gibson
Jo Ann Theresa Alsop Gibson, age 66, of Louisville, wife of Warren Gibson, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2002, at her residence.
She was born January 15, 1936, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Jane Burnell Orme of Clearwater, Florida, and the late Joseph Alsop. She was a clerk-typist for the U.S. Government, and Sears Roebuck Company.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Warren Gibson Jr. of Louisville, Michael D. Gibson of Raywick, Christopher Gibson of Louisville, and William Otis “Billy” Gibson of Bardstown; two daughters, Theresa Ann Gibson and Sharon Lynn Hartledge both of Louisville; one brother, Joseph Alsop Jr., of Kalen, Texas, and eight grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Timothy Alsop.
Funeral services for Jo Ann Gibson were conducted Monday, August 5, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Gibson Cemetery, at Raven, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Lula Cornett
Lula Cornett, age 95, of Prestonsburg, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2002, at the Prestonsburg Health Care Center, after an extended illness.
She was born July 28, 1907, at Blue River, the daughter of the late James and Luqueenie (Stone) Calhoun.
She was married
to James F. Cornett, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, James H. Cornett and Dean Cornett, both of Prestonsburg; one daughter, Emma Lou Hall of Marshall, Michigan; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 3, at 1 p.m., from the Burke Funeral Home, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Larry Adams and Rev. Randy Osborne officiating.
Burial was in the Cornett Family Cemetery at Spradlin Branch, Prestonsburg.
All arrangements were under the direction of Burke Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Artie T. Amburgey
Artie T. Amburgey, age 89, of Bypro, widow of Lawrence Amburgey, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, in the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born June 27, 1913, at Kite, in Knott County, the daughter of the late Will and Alice Slone Thornsberry. She was a homemaker and a long-time member of the Old Regular Baptist Church.
She is survived by five sons, Ezra Amburgey of Prestonsburg, James C. Amburgey of Hazel Green, Alabama, Marvin Amburgey of Pineville, Kenneth Amburgey of Searcy, Arkansas, and David Amburgey of Prestonsburg; five daughters, Loretta Keibler of Warren, Michigan, Emma Jean Amburgey of Elizabethtown, Marcella Amburgey and Shirlene Skaggs, both of Brandenburg, and Judith Ann Amburgey of Bypro; one sister, Ruth Huff of Bevinsville; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sons, Willis Lee, Curtis Ray, Danny, and Franklin D. Amburgey.
Funeral services for Mrs. Amburgey were conducted Monday, July 22, at 11 a.m., at the Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church, Melvin, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Buckingham Cemetery at Bevinsville, with the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, caring for those arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers: Richard Amburgey, Terry Amburgey, Kenneth Amburgey Jr., Larry Elder, Michael Elder, and Billy Keibler.
