Lola Evelyn Hamilton, 74 years of age, of Allen, Ky., passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, in Prestons-burg, Ky., of a sudden illness.
She was born on May 5, 1928, in Kentucky, the daughter of the late Ocie Kendrick. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Byron Hamilton of Lexington, Ky.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 29, 2002, at noon, at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, Ky., with Arnold Turner Jr., and Joe Allen officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday, June 28, after 1 p.m., at the funeral home.
Rosie Henson
Rosie Henson, age 65, of Hi Hat, Ky., widow of L.D. Henson, passed away, Monday, June 24, 2002, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, McDowell, Ky.
She was born January 10, 1937, in Ligon, Ky., the daughter of the late Riley Newsome and Eddie Newsome.
Survivors include eight sons, Raymond Henson of Huntington, Ind., Jimmy Henson of Denver, Co., Timmy Henson of Athens, Tn., Paul Henson of Melvin, Ky., Willie Hall of Ligon, Ky., Herbie Poling of Columbus, Oh., Larry Dean Henson of Virginia, and James Jones of Columbus, Oh.; one daughter, Lula Henson of Hi Hat, Ky.; one brother, Riley Newsome Jr. of Price, Ky.; one sister, Lillie Mae Newsome of Price, Ky., 14 grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Rosie Henson were conducted Thursday, June 27, 2002, at noon at the Ligon Community Freewill Baptist Church, Ligon, Ky., with Clergymen Jack Akers and Red Alley officiating.
Burial was in the Henson Cemetery, Ligon, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Jean Salisbury
Jean Salisbury, a resident of Green Forest, Arkansas, formerly of Martin, Ky., was born October 11, 1925, in Ivel, Ky., a daughter of Albert Earl and Gertrude (Mullins) Fife. She departed this life, Saturday, June 22, 2002, in Shell Knob, Missouri, at the age of 76.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God in Green Forest. Before her retirement she was a long-time resident of Martin, Ky.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Evans Griffith of Yellville, Arkansas; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was united in marriage with James Lowell Salisbury, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Earl Fife Jr.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at the First Assembly of God Church in Green Forest, with Rev. Mark Bryant officiating.
Interment will be Thursday, June 27, 2002, at the Martin Cemetery, in Martin, Ky. Local arrangements were by Nelson Funeral service.
Visitation will be Wednesday, 5 p.m. until 10 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home, in Martin, Ky.
Madge Chaffins
Madge Chaffins, age 70, of Wayland, Ky., was born on January 1, 1932, in Garrett, Ky. She was the daughter of the late Dave Chaffins and Minta Inmon Chaffins.
She departed this life following an extended illness on Friday, June 21, 2002, at the McDowell Appalachian Re-gional Medical Center. She was a retired sales clerk.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Bradley of Wayland, Ky.; one brother, Damon Chaffins of Prestonsburg, Ky.; one sister, Geneva Newman of Louisville, Ky.; and two grandchildren, Caroline Martin, and Samantha Bradley; two great-grandchildren, Alexander Allen, and Lannah Hicks; and many relatives and friends who will mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Chafffins and Phillip Chaffins.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 23, 2002, at 3 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Burial was in the Coburn-Inmon Cemetery, at Rockfork, Garrett, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Buford Slone
Buford Slone, age 70, of Martin, Ky., husband of Nyoka Rice Slone, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2002, at his residence.
He was born February 5, 1932, in Pippa Passes, Ky., the son of the late Edward Slone and Clarissa Jean Slone. He was retired from the U.S. Military and was a retired coal miner. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and a lifetime member of the DAV and AMVETS.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kim Allen Slone of Grethel, Ky., and Tim Dean Slone of Speed, Ind.; three daughters, Tammy Denet Johnson of Charlotte, N.C., Keata Jo Blankenbaker of Borden, Ind., Stacy Lee Blair of Jamestown, Va.; three brothers, Charles Slone of Jamestown, Oh., Eddie Slone of Eddyville, Ky., and Jeff Slone of Faubush, Ky.; two sisters, Aileen Blair of Prater Creek, Ky., and Irene Little of Bowling Green, Ky.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Buford Slone will be conducted Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating.
Burial will follow in the Martin Cemetery, Martin, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Geneva Cooley Prater
Geneva Cooley Prater, age 82, of Hueysville, Ky., wife of Dockie Prater, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2002, at her residence.
She was born October 19, 1919, in Northern, Ky., the daughter of the late Oak Cooley and Rosetta Osborne Cooley. She was a homemaker and a member of the Philadelphia Regular Baptist Church, Hippo, Ky.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Roy G. (Phyllis) Prater of Muster, Ind.; four daughters, Lois (Freddie) Mullins of Hippo, Ky., Brenda Sue (Jesse) Hampton of Columbus, Oh., Linda June (Delbert) Martin of Hueysville, Ky., and Pam (Thomas) Martin of Eastern, Ky.; three brothers, Dorlen Cooley of Hueysville, Ky., and Tody Cooley and Irish Cooley, both of Hippo, Ky., 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Bobby Cooley, Paul Cooley, Rex Cooley, and Gorman Cooley; four sisters, Helen Prater, Beatrice Hicks, Mary Conn, and Katherine Prater.
Funeral services for Geneva Cooley Prater will be conducted Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Philadelphia Regular Baptist Church, Hippo, Ky., with the Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the John Wess Prater Cemetery, Hueysville, Ky., under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home.

Kathryn Turner Youmans
Kathryn Turner Youmans, age 72, of Minnie, Ky., passed away, Monday, June 24, 2002, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Ky.
She was born March 25, 1930, in Minnie, Ky., the daughter of the late William Turner and Lorraine Johnson Turner. She was a retired teacher; formerly employed by the Floyd County School System, a member of the Drift Women’s Club, the ARH Auxiliary, and the McDowell-Minnie Senior Citizens.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Duane Youmans and Darrell Youmans, both of Minnie, Ky.; one daughter, Delilah Lorraine “Midge” Youmans Blackburn of Minnie, Ky.; one brother, W.C. “Buster” Turner of Minnie, Ky.; two sisters, Euka Hicks of Minnie, Ky., and Mary Ellen Maggard of Drift, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Lenville “Bub” Turner, and one sister, Gertrude T. Stumbo.
Funeral services for Kathryn Turner Youmans will be conducted Thursday, June 27, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Old Beaver Regular Baptist Church, Minnie, Ky., with the Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Allen Cemetery, Minnie, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation is at the funeral home, and after 9 a.m., Thursday, at the church.
Maurine Mayo
Miss Maurine Mayo, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the Lafayette Place in Lexington, where she had made her home for the past nine years. She was born April 10, 1903, the daughter of J.D. and Anna Porter Mayo, the youngest of a large family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She began her career in Prestonsburg, and moved to Frankfort as executive assistant to the State Treasurer. In 1944, she moved to Washington, D.C., to work “on the Hill, ” and completed her career there with the National Association of Postal Supervisors. After retirement, she returned to Prestonsburg to be near her family.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Prestonsburg, and the John Graham Chapter of the DAR.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at First United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg, with Bishop Roy C. Clark of Nashville, Tn., conducting the service.
Burial will follow in the Mayo Family Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 to 1:45, in the Family Life Center at First United Methodist Church in Prestonsburg.
