Hubert Puckett, 75, of Abbott Creek Road, Pres-tonsburg, died Sun-day, June 23, 2002, at his residence.
Born on October 25, 1926, in Floyd County, (Myrtle, Ky.), he was the son of the late Goble Puckett and Alice Prater Puckett.
He was a former federal mine inspector for the U.S. Government, a former employee of Princess Elkhorn Coal Co., a former pilot for East Ky. Mack and R&S Truck Body, and a former flight instructor at Combs Airport. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, and WWII Pacific Theatre.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Wells Puckett.
Other survivors include one son, Gary David Puckett of North Port, Fla.; two daughters, Kathy Hall Music of Prestonsburg, and Karen Jean Hall Wilson of Manchester, Tn.; one brother, Donald Puckett of Prestonsburg; one sister, Joyce Conley of Paintsville; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 27, 2002, at 1 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg.
Visitation is Wednesday, 4:30 p.m., until 9:00 p.m.
Kelly Chaffins
Kelly Chaffins, 75 years of age, of Garrett, Ky., was born on September 23, 1926, in Mousie, Ky. He was the son of the late Troy Chaffins and Biddie Wicker Chaffins.
He departed this life, following an extended illness on Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital in Martin, Ky. He was a retired coal miner. He was married
to Nerva Lawson Chaffins, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and two daughters, Bobby Chaffins of Harold, Ky.; Cheryl Manns of Hueysville, Ky., and Tammy Scott of Garrett, Ky.; two brothers, Richard Chafffins and Ballard Chafffins, both of St. Mary’s Oh.; five sisters, Lora Collins, and Sally Ann Fairchild, both of St. Mary’s Ohio, Myrtle Lee Ward of Kendallville, Ind., Cora Fields of Emmalena, Ky., and Dora Lewis of Tennessee; six grandchildren, and many relatives and friends who will mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Drucella Boleyn; four brothers, Leo Chaffins, Paris Chaffins, Coy Chaffins, and James Chaffins.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Chaffins Cemetery, Four Mile, Mousie, Ky.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
John W. Endicott
John W. Endicott, age 93, of Slick Rock, Prestonsburg, Ky., passed away Monday, June 24th, after a brief illness at the Highland Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Ky.
He was born at Endicott, Ky., August 23, 1908, a son of the late Melvin and Lizzie (Jervis) Endicott. He was a coal miner, having worked for Turner-Elkhorn Mining Co., and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
He was married
to Alice (Hunt) Endicott, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Elva Endicott and Jack Endicott, both of Slick Rock, Ky.; four daughters, Norma Jarrell, and Helen Leslie, both of Prestons-burg, Ky., Rosie Jervis of Endicott, Ky., and Anna Belle Goble of Ivel, Ky.; 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 27, 2002, at 1 p.m., from the Burke Funeral Home, Prestonsburg, Ky., with Rev. Gordon Fitch and Rev. Nathan Lafferty officiating.
Burial will be in the Crum Cemetery at Banner, Ky.
Friends may call at the Burke Funeral Home.
All arrangements are under the direction of Burke Funeral Home, Prestonsburg, Ky.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Dolph Gordon Hurt
Dolph Gordon Hurt, of Hager, Hill, Ky., formerly of LaMarque, Texas, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Summit Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Gordon was born September 23, 1938, in Daingerfield, Texas, the son of D.F. and Annie Mae Hurt. They later moved to LaMarque, where Gordon graduated from LaMarque High School in 1957. He was employed by Encompass of Dayton, Ohio, at the time of his death.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, D.F. and Annie Mae Hurt, and is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Herman Hamilton, son John David Hurt, and five grandsons, Jeffrey Hamilton, Hank Hamilton, Blake Hurt, Chase Hurt, and Trey Hurt, all of Ballinger, Texas.
Gordon will be fondly remembered by his family, co-workers, and many friends. His family extends special thanks to Peggy Wotherspoon, Doug Wilson, Dennis Quebe, and Buck Ross, for their support during this very difficult time.
Visitation for family and friends will be at 2 p.m., on Thursday, June 27, in the chapel at Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster, Texas.
Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 3 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gordon’s five grandsons.
Dallas Prater
Dallas Prater, Sr., 65, of Litchfield, (formerly of Albion and Homer areas), passed away Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.
He was born March 12, 1937, in Hueysville, the son of Dan and Hala Mae (Reffitt) Prater. He served in the US Army, graduated from Ft. Custer Truck Driving School, and had been employed at Game-Time Inc., in Litchfield. He was a member of the Grace Free Will Baptist Church in Albion, and formerly belonged to the Albion Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed Nascar Racing, baseball, and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Isola (Shepherd), whom he married
October 25, 1958.
Other survivors include three sons, Lonnie (Martilla) Prater, Danny J. (Carla) Prater, Dallas Prater Jr. and Amy Fredrick, all of Homer; one sister, Hala Mae (John) Hale of Hueysville, Ky.; one brother, Meredith (Faye) Prater of Willard, Oh.; two step-brothers, Beuford Slone of Martin, Ky., Charles Slone of Jamestown, Oh.; two step-sisters, Irene Little and Alene Blair, of Kentucky; three aunts, Bertha Cole of Stockbridge, Mi., Dixie Watts of Mt. Sterling, Ky., and Rosie Reffitt of Martin, Ky.; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, (Belinda G. Hunnaman); one grandson, (Issiah Hunnaman); one granddaughter, (Monica LeAnn Hunnaman), and one brother, (Clifford Stephens).
Funeral services for Dallas Prater Sr., will be held Wednesday, at 3:00 p.m., at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, with Reverend Earl Martin officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Homer.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, or the Diabetes Fund.
Jackie Hall Little
Jackie Hall Little, age 65, was born on February 11, 1937, in Floyd County, Ky. She was the daughter of the late Bill and Alice Hall Goble. She departed this life following an extended illness on Friday, June 21, 2002, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital. In life her occupation was that of a homemaker. She was married
to Ersial Little whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son and three daughters, Ronnie Lee Little of Melvin, Ky., Libby DeKesel, Kathy Harris, and Tessie Young, all of Melvin, Ky. He is also survived by one brother, Bill Goble of Ashtabula, Oh.; two sisters, Cora Lee Tackett of Cleveland, Oh., Gladys Morgan of Wayland, Ky.; three grandchildren, Jessica Young, Kimberly Little, Brandon Sullivan, and one great-grandchild, Makyla Vance; a host of many relatives and friends whom will mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters, Buddy Hall, Burnis Hall, Suzie Harris, Temp Waddle, and Ella Ree Caudill.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 24, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. Louis Ferrari officiating.
Burial will be in the Little Family Cemetery, Melvin, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation is Saturday at the Church.
Earnest Owens
Earnest Owens, age 83, of Prestonsburg, Ky., passed away Friday, June 14, 2002, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Ky., after an extended illness.
He was born May 27, 1919, at Prestonsburg, Ky., a son of the late John and Mattie Owens. He was a veteran, having served in the Army during W. W. II. He was a coal miner, a member of the Corn Fork Freewill Baptist Church, and a member of V.F.W. Post 5839 at Prestonsburg, Ky.
He was married
to Vada (Ratliff) Owens, who survives him.
There are six sons and three daughters, who survive: Arnold Owens of Stone, Ky., Paul Owens of Hardy, Ky., Ellery Owens and John Albert Owens, both of Prestonsburg, Ky., Donald Ray Owens of Keaton, Ky., and Terry Owens of Sebring, Fla.; Alma Sue Pulliam of Auxier, Ky., Carol Goble of Harrison Township, Mi., and Patty Ann Collins of Prestonsburg, Ky.; 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 16, 2002, at 1:30 p.m., at Burke Funeral Home, Prestonsburg, Ky., with Bro. Shane Powers and Rev. Bobby Joe Spencer officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens Cemetery, at Ivel, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

James Freddy Slone
James Freddy Slone, 58 years of age, was born on March 2, 1944, in Knott County, Ky.
He was the son of Vina Hall Slone and the late Dan Slone. He departed this life on June 19, 2002, following an extended illness at his residence in Wayland, Ky. He was a disabled coal miner.
Survivors, other than his mother, include a companion, Patricia Huff of Wayland, Ky.; Joshua Huff, whom he raised as his own son; four step-daughters and their husbands, Kathy (Michael) Vance of Blacksburg, South Carolina, Kelly (Jeff) Allen of Sweetwater, Tenn., Peggy (David) Prater of Niota, Tenn., and Debra Huff of Wayland, Ky.; four brothers and their wives, Emill (Phyllis) Slone of Pound, Va., Bufford (Linda) Slone of Wayland, Ky., Paul E. (Alberta) Slone of Paintsville, Ky., and Danny (Patricia) Slone of Richmond, Ky.; three sisters, and their husbands, Olive (the late Johnny) Conley of Richmond, Ky., Peggy S. (Frank) Prater of Garrett, Ky., and Joylee (Bruce) Patton of Hueysville, Ky., eight grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, and one sister, Janice Vanhoose.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 22, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Burial will be in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, at McDowell, Ky.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
