Victoria Little Flannery, 84 years of age, of Wheelwright, Ky., was born on March 26, 1918, in Pike County, Ky., the daughter of the late Abner and Huldia Jane Newsome Little. She passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at the McDowell ARH of an extended illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Little Robinson Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. She was married
to the late Charlie Flannery.
She is survived by three sons, James Monroe Flannery of Beaver, Ky., Delbert McArthur Flannery of Anaheim, Ca., and Bobby Joe Flannery of Wheelwright, Ky.; three daughters, Helen Newsome and Wanda Lee Ray, both of Wheelwright; and Vonda Lou Newsome of Beaver, Ky.; one brother, Thomas Little of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Bessie Ratliff of Robinson Creek, Ky. and Mary Murrell of Victorville, Ca.; 27 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one brother, Floyd Little; two sisters, Elsie Roberts and Bertha Roberts; two sons, Troy Lee Flannery, and Charles Edward Flannery; one daughter, Norma Jean Flannery; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 15, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Little Nancy Old Regular Baptist Church at Hi Hat, Ky., with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will be in the Vance Cemetery at Beaver, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation is at the church.
Estill Cole
Estill Cole, 69 years of age, of Melvin, Ky., was born on October 2, 1932, in Melvin, Ky., the son of the late Elbert and Sarah Caudill Cole. He passed away, Monday, June 10, 2002, of an extended illness at the residence of his daughter at Hi Hat. He was a retired carpenter.
He is survived by his second wife, Fayetta Cole; and first wife, Trula May Younce.
Other survivors include their children, Rocky Cole, and Warren Cole, both of Melvin, Ricky Cole of Pikeville, Melody Cable of Melvin, and Crystal Dowd and Jackquelin Caudill, both of Elkhart, Ind.; Greta Tackett of Hi Hat, Jackquelin Caudill, of Elkhart, Ind.; and Ricky Rowe of Hi Hat; two brothers, Russell Cole of South Portsmouth, Ky., and William McKinley Cole of Garrison, Ky.; four sisters, Ada Thornsbury of Auxier, Ky., Naomi Braden of Monroe, Mich., Justeen Bentley, and Vada Tackett, both of Garrison, Ky.; 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one son, Kenny Joe Cole; two daughters, Jamie Ruth Helton and Sherry Cole; three brothers, Leonard Cole, Andy Cole, and Londy Cole; three sisters, Arizona Tackett, Delphia Vires and Lonie Cole.
There is a host of family and friends who will mourn his passing.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 13, 2002, at 1:00 p.m., at the Little Nancy Old Regular Baptist Church, Hi Hat, Ky., with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Painter Harve Cemetery in Melvin, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held, beginning Tuesday, June 11, 6 p.m., at the Little Nancy Old Regular Baptist Church, at Hi Hat.
Ola B. Halbert
Ola B. Halbert, age 87, of Printer, Ky., widow of Beriah “Bee” Halbert, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
She was born August 7, 1914, in Printer, Ky., the daughter of the late Marion Roberts and Sophia Spurlock Roberts. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Martin, Ky.
Survivors include one son, Donald Ray Halbert of Lexington, Ky.; one daughter, Belva Jean Halbert Crews of Ashland, Ky.; one brother, Joe Ermal of Drift, Ky.; two grandchildren, Donald Ray Halbert Jr., of Lexington, Ky., and Leneda Jo Crews Laing of Athens, Tennessee; two great-grandchildren, Westin Joseph Laing, of Athens, Tennesee, and Kelsey Mae Halbert, of Lexington, Ky.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bringham Young Roberts, and two sisters, Nola Roberts Hall and Ida Roberts Conn.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 15, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with Elder Bill Hughes of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating.
Burial will follow in the Halbert Family Cemetery, Printer, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Richard Griffith
Richard Griffith, age 88, of Garrett, Ky., the husband of Polly Poe Griffith, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2002, at his residence.
He was born December 18, 1913, at Garrett, Ky., the son of the late Harrison and Sally Scott Griffith. He was a retired coal miner and factory worker. He was a member of the Stone Coal Regular Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six sons, Dave, Henry, Jerry, and Arnold, all of Tekonsha, Mich., Bob of Independence, Mo., and Larry of Garrett, Ky.; three daughters, Barb Pritchard of Cold Water, Mich., Faye Vanzant of Marshall, Mich., and Nadine Castle of Mason, Mich.; one brother, Sol Griffith of Garrett, Ky.; two sisters, Sadie Waskom and Sarah Hoover, both of Indianapolis, Ind., and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, and first wife, Vadie Mae Griffith; and his second wife, Oma Griffith, he was preceded in death by three sons, James, Randal and Rayful Griffith; and one daughter, Magalene Griffith.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 10, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Stone Coal Regular Baptist Church, Garrett, Ky., with Raymond Lawson officiating.
Burial followed in the Scott Cemetery, at Garrett, Ky., under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the church.

Della “Dell” Newsome
Della “Dell” Newsome, age 90, of Melvin, Ky., widow of John B. “Johnny” Newsome, passed away Monday, June 10, 2002, at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center, Hazard, Kentucky.
She was born April 27, 1912, in Knott County, Ky., the daughter of the late John J. Amburgy and May Thornsbury Amburgy Page.
Survivors include three daughters, Roberta Price of Uniontown, Pa., Patricia Ann Martin of Langley, Ky., and Mary Katherine Bailey of Harold, Ky.; four step-sons, Sterlon Newsome of Cowpens, S.C., Archie Newsome of Springport, Mi., Otis Newsome and Freddie Newsome, both of Charlotte, Mi.; two stepdaughters, Vanecia Tackett of River Rouge, Mi., and Virginia Crawford of Melvin, Ky.; one sister, Delphia Vance of Bevinsville, Ky., seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Hall; one son, Clyde Edward Hall; two daughters, Shirley Louise Hall, and Ella Mitchell.
Funeral services for Della Newsome will be conducted, Thursday, June 13, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the clergymen, Ellis Holbrook, Roger Hicks, and Curtie Hall, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Buckingham Cemetery, Nashville, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation is after 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Hallie Lambert
Hallie Lambert, 91, of Inez, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at her home.
Born February 20, 1911, in Martin County, she was the daughter of the late William Martin Preece and Creacy Lou Cornette Preece.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Lambert.
Survivors include one son, Robert E. Lambert of Milton, Ky.; three daughters, Oretha E. Lambert of Santa Barbara, Calif., Peggy L. Lambert of Inez, Ky., and Phyllis J. Wyatt of Pleasant View, Colo.; one brother, Edward Preece of Mich.; three sisters, Lucy Kirk of Warfield, Ky., Pearl Mills and Celia Moore, both of Columbus, Oh.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, William J. Lambert.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 10, 2002, at the Middle Fork United Baptist Church, with Kenny Preece and Jake Crum officiating.
Burial was in the Preece Cemetery, Inez, under the direction of Phelps & Son Funeral Home.
Visitation was Saturday, June 8, at 6 p.m., at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Rick Crum, Bud Sayler, Randy Mills, James Newsome, Todd Maynard, and Gorman David Preece.
Nicky Todd Stapleton
Nicky Todd Stapleton, 32 years of age, of Louisa, Ky., formerly of Harold, Ky., was born on February 18, 1970, the son of Ollene Anderson Stapleton of Harold, Ky., and the late Willard Stapleton. He died at the Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky., Wednesday, June 5, 2002, following an automobile accident.
He was employed by Rock Springs Development as a coal miner. He was a graduate of Betsy Layne High School and attended Prestonsburg Community College.
Survivors, other than his mother, include four brothers, Lanny Stapleton of Spokane, Wash.; Randy Stapleton of Boldman, Ky., Bruce Stapleton and Mickey Stapleton, both of Harold, Ky.; two sisters, Genda Tackett of Louisa, Ky., and Sandy Bentley of Stanville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Buddy Stapleton.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 8, 2002, at 12 noon, at the Little Rock Old Regular Baptist Church at Bevinsville, Ky., with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was at Tom’s Creek Cemetery in Bevinsville, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Lassia M. Hatcher
(nee Martin)
Lassia M. Hatcher, died June 1, 2002, in St. Petersburg, Florida.
She was born May 12, 1911, in Allen, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Hatcher;
She is survived by granddaughters, Ramona Kuroski and Robin Tchakarov; great-grandchildren, Kathryn, Thomas and Megan Kuroski of New York; nieces, Pat Terry and Pam Terry of Cincinnati, Ohio, and nephew, Quentin Terry Jr. of Union, Kentucky. She was a member of the Museum of Fine Arts, and taught school for many years in Kentucky at Maytown High School and Wayland High School, and at Tyrone Middle School in St. Petersburg, Florida.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Maud Ellen Ackerman; a son Robert L. Hatcher; a sister, Lava M. Terry; two brothers, Norvel Martin, and Ed Martin.
