John Allen Boyd, 50, of Betsy Layne, died Monday, November 3, 2003, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
Born December 25, 1952, in Floyd County, he was the son of Robert Lee and Anna Maye Burchett Boyd, of Emma.
He is survived by his wife, Verdia Kay Webb Boyd.
Other survivors include three sons, John Allen Boyd Jr., and Jason Lee Boyd, both of Betsy Layne, and David Michael Webb of Prestonsburg; three daughters, Lagina Gayheart of Paintsville, Michelle Collins of Prestonsburg and Tammy Renee Boyd of Betsy Layne; five brothers, Jimmy Boyd of Betsy Layne, Bobby Boyd of Emma, Timmy Boyd of Georgia, Kenny Boyd of Harold and Tommy Boyd of Cow Creek; two sisters, Dolly Hunt of Lawrence County, and Linda Blevins of Tram; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 7, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Donnie Hall, Woody Crum and Gary Jarrell officiating.
Burial will be in the Boyd Cemetery at Betsy Layne, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
Mildred Honey May Wilbanks
Mildred Honey May Wilbanks, age 79, of Snellville, Georgia, died Wednesday, November 5, 2003.
She was born April 12, 1924, the daughter of Price and Edna Clevenger Huff. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
She was twice married; first to Wilburn May, and later to William Wilbanks. Both preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Jennifer M. Harrrison of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother, John E. Huff of Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Lane Harrison of Snellville, Georgia, and Shelly Fields of Alpharetta, Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Alex Harrison, Abby Harrison and Emily Fields.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 8, at Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, November 8, at Richmond Cemetery, Prestonsburg, with Rev. George Love officiating.
Carter Funeral Home is serving the Wilbanks family.
Louella Chalfant Edwards
Louella Chalfant Edwards, age 85, of Lackey, passed away, Monday, November 3, 2003, in Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
She was born October 1, 1918, in Letcher County, the daughter of William Wells and Alva Weaver Wells. She was a member of the Lackey Freewill Baptist Church, for more than 50 years.
Survivors include one son, Robert Chalfant of Wabash, Indiana; three daughters, Dorlane Runyon of Hager Hill, Arvella Martin of Garrett, and Winona Blanton of Wabash, Indiana; one sister, Daisy Lambert of Stonega, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Riley Chalfant; her second husband, Ephriam Edwards; one son, Curtis Chalfant; one brother, Garfield Wells; three sisters, Belle Bowers, Mary Lewis, and Stady Howard.
Funeral services for Louella Chalfant Edwards were conducted Thursday, November 6, at noon, at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Burial was in the family cemetery, at Lackey, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Deven Runyon, Robbie Hashbarger, Greg Chalfant, Jason Carroll, Nick Carroll, Russell Chalfant, Curtis Chalfant, and Katlin Music.
June Davis
June Davis, age 83, of Topmost, wife of the late Walton Davis, passed away, Saturday, November 1, 2003, in the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born June 5, 1920, in Raven, the daughter of the late Dewey Gibson and Pearlie Patton Gibson. She was a member of the Topmost Baptist Church.
Survivors include one brother, Cantrel Gibson of Topmost; four sisters, Ora Sawyers, Bonnie Harris, and Elva Blankenship, all of Topmost, and Shelby Tessier of Newport, North Carolina; one grandchild, Tammy Tower of Flint, Michigan; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Meredith Davis.
Funeral services for June Davis were conducted Tuesday, November 4, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, at Martin, with Clergymen Bob Wireman, Eddie Paige and Carl Mullins officiating.
Burial was in the Wayne Harris Cemetery, at Topmost, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Ernie Alsop, Eugene Tessier, Shannon Gibson, Shane Sawyers, Steven Erdman and Michael Erdman.
Phyllis Maynard
Phyllis Maynard, 70, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, November 2, 2003, at her residence.
Born December 15, 1932, in Endicott, she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Arlene Hunt Burchett. She was a retired factory worker for Western Electric (AT&T).
She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Maynard.
Survivors include two sons, David E. Maynard of New Albany, Ohio, and Rickey L. Maynard of Johnstown, Ohio; two brothers, Eddie Ray Burchett of Prestonsburg, and Linwood Burchett of Endicott; two sisters, Ella Sue Newman of Prestonsburg, and Letha Mae Goble, of Endicott; grandchildren, Bryan Maynard, Melissa Byers, Christina Slone and Pamela Fuller; and great-grandchildren, Ceeara, Christopher, Brandon, Brenna, Waylon, and Courtney.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Rudy Maynard; and one sister, Betty Jo Burchett.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 5, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Bill Collins and Gordon Fitch officiating.
Burial will be in the Burchett Family Cemetery at Buffalo, in Prestonsburg, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Lona Prater
Lona Prater, 46, of Hueysville, died Monday, November 3, 2003, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital emergency room.
Born April 15, 1957, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of Delila Shepherd Stephens of Prestonsburg, and the late Green Stephens. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Timothy Lee Prater.
In addition to her mother, and husband, she is survived by one son, Stephen Lee Prater of Lexington; one daughter and son-in-law, Lona Michelle and Jimmy DeRossett of Prestonsburg; one grandchild, Hailey Marie DeRossett; four brothers, Cleve Stephens, Monroe Stephens, Otis Stephens and Lonzo Stephens, all of Prestonsburg; and four sisters, Goldie Mae Goble of Claypool, Indiana, Josephine Akers and Kathy Hammonds, both of Prestonsburg, and Easter Faye Akers of Grethel.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Stephens.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 5, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Verda L. Johnson
Verda L. Johnson, 64, of Garrett, died Sunday, November 2, 2003, at her residence.
Born November 25, 1938, in West Garrett, she was the daughter of Molly Patton Rice of West Garrett, and the late Perry Rice. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Hueysville Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Johnson.
Other survivors include two sons, Randy Lee Johnson (wife, Angela Lynn) and Larry Michael Johnson, both of Garrett; one daughter, Susan Lynn Johnson of Garrett; three sisters, Agnes Rice of Auxier, and Lorena Rice and Carrie Rice, both of Garrett; and six grandchildren, Olivia Ann Johnson, Timothy Matthew Johnson, Michael Dwayne Johnson, Lamikka Johnson, Hayley Kavon Johnson, and Destiny Boyd.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 5, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Chester Varney officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Rebecca Elizabeth Reed
Rebecca Elizabeth Reed, age 13, of Lexington, died Saturday, November 1, in Hindman, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
She was born February 27, 1990, in Lexington, a daughter of Deborah Ann Reed. She was an eighth grade student at June Buchanan School, in Hindman, a member of the choir, Drama Club, and a member of the Maxwell Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Jim and Shelby Reed of Lexington; her great-grandfather, Hargis Calton of Palm Bay, Florida, Grannie Rose; special guardians (uncle and aunt) David and Janet of Pippa Passes, aunt and uncle Robert Alan and Edith Reed of San Diego, California; aunt, Brenda Reed of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Christopher Stumbo of Hazard; cousins, Robert W. Reed, Kaitlyn Reed, and Sara Reed; and many classmates, friends, and family members.
She was preceded in death by her uncle, Brent Reed.
Funeral services for Rebecca Elizabeth Reed will be Wednesday, November 5, at 2 p.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Sally Miller officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, with the Hall Funeral Home caring for those arrangements.
