James F. (Jim Bo) Howard, 59, of Prestonsburg, died Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, in Prestonsburg.
Born February 18, 1944, in Cow Creek, he was the son of the late Ray and Josephine Ellis Howard. He was a disabled co-owner of Ray Howard Furniture in Prestonsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Robinson Howard.
Other survivors include one son, James F. Howard II, of Prestonsburg; two brothers, O.R. “Pete” Howard of Prestonsburg, and R.T. (Tim) Howard, of Auxier.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Mark Howard, and one sister, Judith Howard Carter.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 6, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Rev. George Love officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 5, from 6 p.m., to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Goldia Martin Salyers
Goldia Martin Salyers, passed away, on October 25, 2003, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin.
She was born February 20, 1911, at Eastern, the daughter of the late Walter S. “Hoosh” Martin and Rebecca Catherine Martin. She was a lifetime residence of Eastern.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hudson Salyers and son, Delbert Glenn Salyers.
She is survived by her daughters and sons, Reba (Glenn) McClanan of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Brenda (Geoffrey) Newman of Derby England, Keith Salyers, Bruce Salyers, and Colby Salyers, all of Eastern, and Velinda Salyers, of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Martin McClanan of San Francisco, California, Ann McClanan of Portland, Oregon, and Glenn McClanan Jr., of Los Angeles, California; three great-grandchildren, Ian Hudson McClanan, Kathryn Rebecca McClanan and Benjamin Samuel Hadad IV; one sister, Minnie Conley of Eastern.
Services for Goldia Salyers will be conducted Friday, October 31, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Clinton Moore officiating.
Burial will follow in the Martin Family Cemetery, at Eastern, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. till 9 p.m., Thursday, October 30, at the funeral home.
Florence Jane Sartin
Florence Jane Sartin, age 82, of Wheelwright, widow of Dewey C. Sartin, passed away, Sunday, October 26, 2003, at her residence.
She was born December 9, 1920, at Belfry, the daughter of the late Bud Muncy and Wilda Robinette Muncy. She was a homemaker and a member of the Burton Pentecostal Church at Bypro.
Survivors include seven daughters, Yvonne Johnson of Wheelwright, Donna Hubner of Grove Point, Ohio, Pauline Christeson of Lansing, Michigan, Betty Burdon of Carroll, Ohio, Patsy Goins of Findley, Ohio, Ruby Fitch of Fostoria, Ohio, and Phyllis Wagner of Las Vegas, Nevada; six sons, Paul Sartin, Marion Sartin, and Claude Sartin, all of Wheelwright, Charles Sartin and Hubert Sartin, both of Lincolnton, North Carolina, and Danny Sartin of Bexley, Ohio; three brothers, Joe Muncy of Norfolk, Virginia, Bobby Muncy of Florida, and Lloyd Muncy of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Ida Miller of Columbus, Ohio, and Gladys Chapman of Columbus, Indiana; 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parens; two brothers, Paul Muncy and Silas Muncy; and three sisters, Ethel Dawson, Opal Dawson and Gertie Dorton.
Funeral services for Florence Jane Sartin will be conducted Wednesday, October 29, at 11 a.m., at the Burton Pentecostal Church, at Bypro, with Clergyman Lewis Sandlin officiating.
Burial will follow in the Newman Cemetery, at Hi Hat, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.

Jason Christopher Akers
Jason Christopher Akers, age 23, of Banner, husband of Kimberly Nicole Akers, passed away, Friday, October 24, 2003, at the University of Cincinnati Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was born August 18, 1980, in Prestonsburg, the son of Christopher Akers of Banner, and Sandy Roberts Childers of Shelby Gap. He was an employee of Prater Creek Ice, and was a member of the Spurlock Bible Church.
Survivors include his parents and wife; two brothers, Alex Branham and Tyler Branham, both of Pikeville; one sister, Jill Akers of Banner; a nephew, Braxton Akers; his paternal grandmother, Emma Lou Akers of Banner; and his paternal great-grandmother, Goldie Conn of Banner.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Millard Roberts and Vaughn Roberts, and his paternal grandfather, Odis Akers.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 27, at noon, at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, with Clergymen Bobby Spencer, Jim Stephens and Andrew Fletcher officiating.
Burial was in the Pearl Akers Cemetery, at Dana, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

James Everett Tackett
James Everett Tackett, age 88, of Allen, husband of Margarett Griffith Tackett, passed away Monday, October 27, 2003, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
He was born April 12, 1915, in Belfry, the son of the late Albert Tackett and Melissa Jane Dials Tackett. He was a retired restaurant owner, a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Prestonsburg, and a member of the New England Masonic Lodge, Worthington, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Theodore Thomas Tackett of Vienna, Virginia; one daughter, Caroyn Tackett Layne of Allen; five grandchildren, Thomas Blakeman, Sabrina Conn, Ellen Ellis, Mary Bourquin, and Megan Tackett; and seven great-grandchildren, Christopher, Melinda, Joshua, Emily, Luke, Jonathan, and Bryce.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Thelma Lloyd and Hazel Dyer.
Funeral services for James Everett Tackett will be conducted Thursday, October 30, at 1 p.m., at St. James Episcopal Church, Prestonsburg, with the Rev. Canon Johnnie Ross officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.

Clyde Blevins
Clyde Blevins, age 74, of Harold, passed away, Monday, October 27, 2003, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
He was born July 11, 1929, at Justell, the son of the late Ransom Blevins and Carmie Castle Blevins. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Nina Howell of Grethel, and Lou Elkins of Cresent City, Florida; two brothers, Daniel Blevins of Clyde, Ohio, and Glenn Blevins of Grundy, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ann Taylor; and two brothers, Denver Blevins and James Blevins.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 30, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Tracy Patton officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation is at the funeral home, with services being held Wednesday evening, at 7 p.m.
Lizzie Carroll Gillespie
Lizzie Carroll Gillespie, 74, of East Point, died Friday, October 24, 2003, at her residence.
Born May 8, 1929, in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late George Luster and Nannie Stevens Luster. She was a homemaker and a member of the Weeksbury Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Gillespie.
Other survivors include four sons, Richard Carroll, and Gary Carroll, both of Prestonsburg, Raymond Carroll of David, and Sonny Carroll of Brooksville; one step-son, David Gillespie of Hi Hat; seven daughters, Nanie Yates of Wheelwright, Barbara Skeens of Martin, Mary Johnson of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Marie Sammons of East Point, Martha Simmons of Bil, Arizona, Billie Tucker of Ligon, and McCoy Parsons of Grethel; two step-daughters, Jimmie Sue West of Columbus, Ohio, and Barbara Stanley of Belfry; one brother, Daniel Luster of Pikeville; three sisters, May Newman of Star City, Arkansas, Josephine Moore of Pikeville; and Thelma Booth of Columbus, Ohio; 45 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tom Carroll; step-son, Terry Gillespie; step-daughter, Rat Hall; four brothers, Paris Luster, Woodrow Luster, Jim Luster, and Johnny Lee Luster; four sisters, Stella Clark, Della Pinkerton, Margie Howell and Mary Castle.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 26, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Roger Trusty officiating.
Burial was in the Carroll Cemetery, Little Mud, Printer, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

A. B. Bryant
A. B. Bryant, 83, of Hi Hat, died Thursday, October 23, 2003, at his residence.
Born October 30, 1919, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Ransom and Nancy Johnson Bryant. He was a retired coal miner, and a member of the U.M.W.A.
He was preceded in death by wife, Bobbie Dawson Bryant.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy (Denver) Hall of Hi Hat; three brothers, Allen Bryant of Columbus, Ohio, Eli Bryant and Nellie Davis, both of Hi Hat; two grandchildren, Tracy (Joe) Marson, Wayne (Anita) Hall; four great-grandchildren, Jay Marson, Brandon Marson, Amber Hall and Dorsa Hall.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marinda Hall, Dellie Hall and Delphia Johnson.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 26, at 2 p.m., at the Little Nancy Old Regular Baptist Church, at Hi Hat, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was in the Boyd Cemetery, at Hi Hat, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the church.
