Laura Click Scarborough, 91 years old, of Melvin, passed away, Thursday, October 16, 2003, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, McDowell, following an extended illness.
She was born January 9, 1912, in Martin, the daughter of the late Carrie and Dent Osborne.
She is survived by one daughter, Magalee Whitt and husband, Ralph and grandson, David, of Camp Verde, Arizona; one brother, Dave Osborne of Melvin, who was her caregiver; one sister, Rushie Tackett of Wise, Virginia; ten grandchildren, Judy Adkins, Peggy Brown, MaDonna Bryant, Linda Carr, Randal Hall, Richard Hall and Ronald Hall all of Virginia, Janice Farnan, Sylvia Hall and Ramona Messer, all of Georgia; several loving nieces and nephews in Kentucky and Virginia, and several great-grandchildren in Virginia, Oregon and Arizona.
Funeral services for Laura Click Scarborough were conducted Sunday, October 19, at 2:30 at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the Clergyman Donnie Bragg officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the funeral home with church services 7 p.m., Saturday evening.
Pallbearers: Billy B. Carr, Emmett C. Bryant Jr., Larry Messer, Ronald E. Hall, Eric Parrish and Robert B. Brown.
Martin B. Burchett
1930-2003
Martin B. Burchett, of Ridgecrest California, died Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at his home surrounded by his wife of 48 1/2 years and his family. He was 72.
He was born November 15, 1930, in Wayland, a native of Prestonsburg. He graduated from Prestonsburg High School with the Class of the 49rs.
He was Chief Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force. He retired after serving 27 years, with tours of duty in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Martin was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, nine Good Conduct Medals, the President Unit Citation, the Air Force Oustanding Unit Award, the American Defense Service Medal with two OLC, the Vietnamese Service Medals with bar, and three Campaign Stars.
He also retired after 15 years of service with the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake California as a branch head in the Ordnance Department.
Burchett was very active with the youth sports program coaching for many years. He loved to fish and hunt and enjoyed the beautiful mountains.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Adkins Burchett.
Other survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bland and Billee Burchett of Ridgecrest; one brother, Ernest Burchett of Prestonsburg; his grandchildren, Hollie and Domonick Margarelia of Scottsville, Arizona; Christopher M. Burchett of Avondale, Arizona; a special little fishing partner, Sam, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Opal and Belvard Burchett; two sisters, Ann and Doris Faye; and one brother, John A. Burchett, and a great-great aunt, Bertha Weddington, who raised him.
A memorial service was held at Crossroads Community Church on Sunday, October 12, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Bill Corley officiating.
A military graveside service will be at 1 p.m., October 25, at Yatesville Memorial Gardens, Louisa, with Rev. Clifford Austin officiating.

Earl H. Mosley
Earl H. Mosley, 72, of Minnie, died Thursday, October 16, 2003, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital emergency room.
Born April 6, 1929, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Ben and Dollie Moore Mosley. He was a retired mechanic for the Floyd County School Board, and a veteran of the U.S. Army and Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Spears Mosley.
Other survivors include a sister, Cynthia Pitts and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Oscar Mosley, Milton Mosley, Claude Mosley, Kennel Mosley, Willie Mosley, Arthur Mosley and Floyd Mosley and three sisters, Laura Mosley, Ocie Chaffins and Maggie Mosley.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 19, at 2 p.m., at the Little Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church of the New Salem Association at McDowell, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial was in the Mitchell Chaffins Cemetery at Sizemore in Minnie, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.
Visitation was at the church.
Orris Collins
Orris Collins, 66, of Honaker, died Friday, October 17, 2003, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
Born September 23, 1937, in Honaker, he was the son of the late Curtis and Masil Damron Collins. He was a disabled coal miner, and a member of the Little Dove Old Regular Baptist Church at Honaker.
He is survived by his wife, Treva Carroll Collins.
Other survivors include his step-sons, David, (wife Jackie Collins) of Cynthiana, Danny, (wife Betty Collins) of Pikeville; step-daughters, Debra (husband Bill) Wicker of Sandusky, Ohio, Scharlene Kidd of Harold, Donna (husband Dana) Collins and Roberta Collins, all of Honaker; brothers, Ralph Collins of West Liberty, Jerry Collins of Honaker, Florence (Bill) Collins of Harold; sisters, Nancy Kidd, Josie Case, Patricia Boyd, Brenda Howell, all of Honaker, Kathy Kidd of McDowell; nine step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Collins and Linda Collins.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 21, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was in the Collins Family Cemetery, at Honaker, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Goldie Sexton Castle
Goldie Sexton Castle, 82, of Hueysville, died Monday, October 20, 2003, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital in Martin.
Born March 17, 1921, in Floyd County, she was daughter of the late William Lee and Jane Shepherd Sexton. She was a homemaker and attended the Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Haulie Castle.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Ray Castle of Hueysville; two daughters, Janetta Horne of Kendallville, Indiana and Annette Castle of Hueysville; 23 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Edward Castle and Kermit Dean Castle; three daughters, Faye Robinson, Loretta Spears and Eddis Mae Spears; and two brothers, Ellis Sexton and Willis Sexton.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 23, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Calvin J. Robinson officiating.
Burial will be in the Sexton-Duff Cemetery, at Hueysville, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Charlotte Gray Mullins
Charlotte Gray Mullins, born April 22, 1932, at Garrett, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2003, at the Woodland Oak Nursing Facility, Ashland.
She graduated from Wayland High School in 1951. She attended Morehead State Teachers College and worked for a Gas Company, Water Company, and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.
She later went to Frankfort, and worked for Wendell Ford at The Legislative Research Commission. Then worked for the Secretary of State’s Office and Kentucky State Treasurers Office for almost 40 years, attaining senior management level in all offices.
She retired in 1989 from government work and stayed in Frankfort before becoming ill.
After becoming ill, in mid-1990’s, with Alzheimer’s she moved in with her brother, Joe, in Ashland, in 1999. She was admitted to Woodland Oaks Nursing Facility in September 2001.
She was the daughter of Oak and Lena Mullins, who also preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles C. Mullins.
She is survived by one brother, Joe Russell Mullins, of Ashland. She has six nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were, visitation at Hall Funeral Home in Martin, from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, October 18.
The funeral was held Sunday, October 19, at 1 p.m., at Hall Funeral Home, Martin.
Burial was in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.
Pallbearers: Mike Fitzpatrick, Gene Mullins, Charles Mullins, Sam Mullins, Phillip Thompson, and Rusty Thompson.
Jimmie Ousley
Jimmie Ousley, age 77, of Langley, died Thursday, October 9, 2003, at his home.
He was born January 17, 1926, in Risner, the son of the late Perry and Millie Ousley. He was a faithful member and deacon of the Bethel Old Regular Baptist Church at Langley. He was a miner for 24 years before retiring from Stephens Elkhorn Coal Company, where he was a lifetime member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a farmer and a lover of God’s creation, aminals, flowers, trees and gardening. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, with his family and friends.
He is survived by Edith Ousley, his wife of 59 years.
Other survivors include one son, Delbert (Carolyn) Ousley, and one daughter, Dianna Charolet Ackerman (Bill), both of Richmond; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Renis (Taylor) Ousley and two brothers, Otis (Sis) Ousley, and Dennis (Juanita) Ousley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Delta Fay Ousley; sisters, Alvie and Alma; brothers, Leonard, Columbus, and Denver, and great-grandchild, Joshua David.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 12, at 2:30 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Brothers Coy Combs and Burton Ratliff officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
