Samuel M. Childers
Samuel M. Childers, age 64, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Garrett, passed from this life on Saturday, August 2, 2003.
Born November 20, 1938, at Garrett, he was the son of the late Henry and Clara Petry Childers.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, and was later employed by the Veteran’s Administration Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Childers; three daughters, Elaine (Carl) Johnson, of Rushton, Louisiana, Cathy (Lorenzo) Ramirez, of San Antonio, Texas, and Crissy (Jimmy) Highman, of Houston, Texas; one son, Steve Childers, of Houston, Texas; five sisters, Louise Ward, of Lexington, Betty Lawson, of Cynthiana, Phyllis Tackett, of Hesperia, California, Elizabeth (James A.) Duff, of Hueysville, and Edna Banks, of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, Desiree Childers, Emily Johnson, Maggie Johnson, Katie Johnson, Jennifer Osani, and Steven Childers; and two great-grandchildren, Vincent Osani and Adrianna Osani.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Childers, and one sister, Barbara Childers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 6, in St. Luke’s Catholic Church, in San Antonio, Texas. Burial with full military honors followed in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, in San Antonio, Texas.

Martha E. Patton Mace
Martha E. Patton Mace, age 83, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, went to be with her Lord as well as her beloved husband of 54 years, Worley Mace, who preceded her in death in December, 1991, on Saturday, August 9, 2003.
She was a devoted member of the Brookside Baptist Church, where she had served as a former Sunday School teacher and Women’s Missionary Union President. She was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program and at a local hospital.
She is survived by her daughters, Tobie Gibson and Barbara Collinsworth; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Leslie B. Patton; a sister, Phyllis (Roger) Collinsworth; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John G. Mace; parents, Charlie and Bess Patton; a brother, Charles W. Patton; and, a sister, Alice May Patton.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 13, at 11:00 a.m., at Brookside Baptist Church, 590 Lancaster Avenue, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Pastor Tony Romano, Pastor Larry Lewis, and Pastor Howard Garrison will officiate.
Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Columbus, Ohio.
Visitation was held at Schoedinger East Chapel.

Norman Eric Lewis
Norman Eric Lewis, age 25, of Banner, died Friday, August 8, 2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident that occurred on Route 80, near Martin.
Born January 1, 1978, at Martin, he was the son of Norman “Bill” Lewis Sr., and Deborah Darlene Jarrell Lewis, of Banner. He was a disabled general laborer.
He is survived by his wife, Christy Bryant Lewis.
Other survivors include his maternal grandmother and step-father, Lorraine and Phillip Anderson, of Toler; paternal grandfather, James Lewis, of Banner; a sister, Lori Lee-Ann Lewis, of Banner; two nieces, Sarai Messmear and Marisa McCoy; a nephew, Joshua Lewis; two sisters-in-law, Lisa McCoy and Cynthia Bryant; and a brother-in-law, William Bryant.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Raymond Jarrell; paternal grandmother, Dixie Lewis; and a brother, Derrick Kennith Lewis.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 11, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin. Jr. Tussey and Henry Albert Lewis officiated.
Burial followed in the Lewis Cemetery, at Daniels Creek, in Banner.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Bill Canterbury
Bill Canterbury, age 86, of Prestonsburg, died Saturday, August 9, 2003, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Born January 28, 1917, in Tram, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Canterbury and Christie Woods Canterbury. He was a member of the Cow Creek Freewill Baptist Church and a retired coal miner for Turner Elkhorn Coal Company.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle E. Burchett Canterbury.
Other survivors include one son, William Albert Canterbury Jr., of Prestonsburg; four daughters, Georgia Ramey, of Warsaw, Indiana, Ellen Brown, of McDowell, and Ella Goble and Eunice Blackburn, both of Prestonsburg; two sisters, Mary Ruth Collins, of Drift, and Martha Stratton, of Campbellburg; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Patricia Lynn Goble.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 12, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin. Clergyman Manford Fannin officiated.
Burial followed in Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation was in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers: Kenneth Lee Blackburn, Mark Blackburn, Dean Brown, Ryan Brown, John Goble II, and Mark Meadows.

Bennie Hall
Bennie Hall, age 53, of Elkhart, Indiana, formerly of Floyd County, died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at his residence of a sudden illness.
Born May 1, 1950, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Willie and Stella (Osborne) Hall.
He had been a welder from age 18.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Hall; a daughter, Tammy Lee Hall, of Elkhart; a son, Eric Hall, of Elkhart; four grandchildren; six brothers, Glen Hall, Paul Ray Hall, and Raymond Hall, all of Marion, Ohio, Ernest Hall, of Paintsville, Rex Hall, of Willard, Ohio, and Clayton Hall, of Winona Lake, Indiana; three sisters, Alean Springer, of Marion, Ohio, Rosealee Martin, of Drift, and Judy Faye Newsome, of Warsaw, Indiana.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Carroll and Tracy Hall; and two sisters, Irene Hamilton and Lorette Martin.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, July 3, under the direction of Gunder-Hall & Folk Funeral Home, in Marion, Ohio.
Interment followed in Grand Prairie Cemetery, in Brush Ridge, Ohio.

Joseph Richard “Jody” Collins
Joseph Richard “Jody” Collins, age 80, of Honaker, died Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
Born October 24, 1922, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late William Riley and Annie Mitchell Collins. He was a disabled coal miner, an Army and WWII veteran, a P.O.W. in Germany, a lifetime member of D.A.V. Chapter No. 134, at Pikeville, and a member of the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ola Kidd Collins.
Other survivors include two sons, Ernie Ray Collins (Caroline), of Bowling Green, and Gerney Dwan Collins (Irene Merion), of Honaker; two daughters, Joie C. Lawson (Charles Steele), of Honaker, and Patsy Jean Mitchell (Kinnel), of Grethel; one brother, Bill Collins, of New London, Ohio; two sisters, Susie Kimbler, of Harold, and Margaret Nunemaker, of Pikeville; eight grandchildren, Chelle (Scot), Chanda (Benton), Tiffani, Seth, Crystal, Aaron, Becky, and Rachel; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Colby, Braydon, and Cali; and a special friend, Phillip Thacker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, John B. Collins, Ervin Collins, Ted Collins, Curtis Collins, Oscar Collins, Andy Collins, and Rousie Collins; three sisters, Lizzie McKinney, Diane Collins, and Rose Collins; and a half-sister, Ida Hamilton.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 10, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin. Tracy Patton and Tim McCoy officiated.
Burial followed in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers: Scot Sode, Benton Nunemaker, Austin Nunemaker, Colby Nunemaker, Seth Collins, Aaron Collins, Duran Kidd, Braydon Sode, Cali Sode, Charles Steele, and Phillip Thacker.

Randall Lee Hager
Randall Lee Hager of Auxier, Ky., departed this life at 5 a.m., Sunday, August 10, 2003, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center after suffering from a long heart ailment. He was 63 years old. Randall was born December 11, 1939, in Auxier, Ky.
Randall served his country in the United States Army. He retired from IBM after 25 years of service as a Customer Engineer, and then was owner of Hager’s Typewriter Repair.
Randall was a member of the Auxier Freewill Baptist Church.
His father and mother, Paul “Cute” Hager and Juanita Hager Fraley, preceded Randall in death.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Porter Hager; their daughter, Laura Ward Hager; two sons, Randall Lee Hager II and Polly, his wife, of Sunfield, Mich. and William Michael Hager of Bull Creek, Ky.; two daughters by marriage, Danita Wireman Gayheart and Glen, her husband, of Staffordsville, Ky. and Stephanie Wireman Mays and Todd, her husband, of Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren, Lakin Alexandra (Ali) Wireman, Joshua McKenzie Lee Wiremen, Paul Randall Hager, Victoria Margaret Hager, Samuel Thomas Wireman, and Katherine Allyn Gayheart. Randall is also survived by a brother, Paul Dwayne Hager and Gloria, his wife, of Clewiston, Florida; a sister, Sue Hager Morrison, of Auxier, Ky.; one maternal aunt, Betty Ann Wilson and Wally, her husband, of Homosassa, Florida; one maternal uncle, Gene Allen Alexander, of Lake Placid, Florida; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
He was a wonderful father and grandfather, and will be missed tremendously.
Randall had several close friends whom he cared for very much, and will all miss him.
Funeral arrangements are Wednesday, August 13, at 1 p.m., at the Auxier Freewill Baptist Church in Auxier, Bobby Spencer officiating. Visitation was Monday, Aug. 11, 6 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Auxier Relocation Cemetery at Auxier, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.

Credie Robinson
Credie Robinson, age 71, of Martin, died Monday, August 11, 2003, at Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center, at Phelps.
Born September 10, 1931, at Martin, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Vicie Conn Robinson. She was a member of the Church of Christ, at Arkansas Creek, in Martin.
Survivors include two brothers, Roy Robinson and Jeff Robinson, both of Martin; four sisters, Daisy Bryant, Mossie Robinson, and Barbara Caudill, all of Martin, and Babe Patrick, of Allen.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 14, at 11:00 a.m., at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin. Church of Christ ministers will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery, at Arkansas Creek, in Martin.
Visitation is at the funeral home.
